Found the email I sent when I got accidentally added to the faculty listserv of an orthopedic surgery clinic and nobody would remove me so I sent this email to all faculty/staff/med students and they removed me almost immediately
Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

i try to use facebook as little as possible, but on the few times i open it, the algorithm has already learned i like cycling and urbanism and will purposely show me posts from other states and people i dont know complaining about bike lanes. specifically to get me riled up

Yes the real threat is bad driving. Maybe once you lose people to traffic violence you’ll be more respectful to people you don’t know online

This conversation is no longer productive and clearly you are unfamiliar with CT’s enabling legislation in its entirety but still choose to take a haughty stance. Goodbye long nose

not sure where your anon account is based out of, but here in CT any “profit” must legally be used to implement street safety redesigns at the camera location, and all data is owned by the town, not a private corp. you are welcome to move freely if you obey basic traffic safety laws

a lot of people against automated traffic cameras are also perfectly ok with enforcement by police officers. given that an officer can maybe stop 1 driver every 15 minutes while cams are continuous, truly seems like the secret motive is just to be able to break traffic laws with no consequences

paving continued! the final roadway will generally have a two way left turn lane down the center, but where no left turns are possible, new landscaped medians are going in to narrow the road for traffic calming and prevent using the left turn lane to pass

>complaints that the road is full of potholes >complaints that repaving is too disruptive >complaints that drivers have to slow down behind bikes in the lane >complaints that a bike lane is being built once you realize that as a government official you will always be wrong, you will be set free

the continual speed & red light camera debate in CT is fascinating because it’s one of the very few issues in this era where individual politics seems to have zero correlation with someone’s opinion

more whitney ave progress photos i really like how this new seating area is coming out - when we were first planning this project, i saw parents biking their kids to school on the sidewalk and thought how nice would it be to provide a place to wait for pickup in the afternoon right on the path

very unfortunate that flock cameras have become a huge issue at the same time that CT towns are rolling out automated traffic enforcement - the general public conflates the two. www.fox61.com/article/news...

Whitney Ave gateway taking shape up at the town line with Hamden. Any would-be speeders entering the city will soon be greeted with a raised intersection, bumpouts, and a curbed median
construction crew at whitney & cliff building a granite curb median island between the two travel lanes. new concrete sidewalk and bollard in foreground, curb bumpout and new RRFB across streetgoogle streetview capture of old layout of whitney ave at cliff st. two lanes in each direction with a paint only yellow median. very wide road with no physical cues that you are now entering a dense city led to excessive speeding from the hamden side (50-60mph)

for reference, here's a 7 brew in wallingford that i was able to measure. 13 times more area of asphalt than building structure.
nearmap screenshot of an existing 7 brew building and parking lot in wallingford, ct. highlighted polygons calculating the area show 17590 SF of asphalt and 1346 SF of building.

Adam Weber @awebr.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
saw on linkedin a post celebrating a new 7 Brew about to open in waterbury. appears that the space for moving and storing cars is about 10x the area of the actual building. and to top it off, no way to actually walk up to the building. what a contribution to the city!
drone shot of a recently built 7 brew restaurant in waterbury, ct. photo shows a small white building surrounded by a u-shape of asphalt with 3 circulating lanes, 11 parking spaces, and fire lane. no sidewalk connection exists between the public road sidewalk and the building.

In that case, i think comparing delay per pax per mode of transport is fair, bc it’s staying in units of time. It’s when you extrapolate nearly negligible time per person into huge economic savings that the logic falls apart

Adam Weber @awebr.bsky.social · 20/08/2026
fyi, this type of fake “time math” is how highway designers justify widenings. a new lane will save 100,000 drivers 60 sec a day * average hourly wage, wow this new lane has incredible economic value, better build it! too bad that’s not how time works cumulatively

Adam Weber @awebr.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
looks like a bike lane will in fact be finally going in on park st, taking the place of an entire general lane! elm st to chapel st, including the short block to broadway if this cross section extended to howard ave, and then mirrored on howe st, would make a sweet couplet b/t existing lanes

transportation peeps: how to stay motivated to keep putting forth the best design solutions, even when single individuals stonewall proven safety improvements because of their personal preferences?
020
Adam Weber @awebr.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
if your city is only installing bike lanes where it doesn’t inconvenience drivers, it’s just performative. when admins say the needs of drivers and bicyclists have to be “balanced,” be wary. if your city is actually reallocating the overabundance of car space to other modes, that’s leadership.

what better way to spend time in the boston area between a flight and a train than on a streets tour with @sofio.bsky.social ! i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, this region is absolutely just printing bike lanes, both quick build and permanent, building out an impressive network

i have always been a proponent of phasing out the gas tax in favor of highway tolls. it covers the switch from gas cars to EVs, captures out of state drivers damaging our roads, and reduces highway congestion by redistributing short one exit trips back onto surface streets
020
Adam Weber @awebr.bsky.social · 07/08/2026
Looking at New Haven crash stats for state owned (non highway) routes vs local roads, last 3 years: State: 4,101 crashes overall, 23 fatal (11 ped) Local: 14,247 crashes overall, 16 fatal (6 ped, 1 bike) Now do the math knowing state surface routes are only 9% of the total road miles in the city

i can only guess as well that the two pocket parks mentioned in the article are a "creative" way to reuse excess greenspace as a result of demolishing houses

Adam Weber @awebr.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
cant find any plans yet, but given the language of "realignment" i would assume the layout would look like this. i'm guessing a large amount of that price is buying people out of their homes, for one intersection that is a huge sum. for reference we are reconstructing all of whitney ave for $14m

s. orange st, a 1 block gap in the protected bike lane network, is getting restriped in exactly the same layout, even with a plan on the shelf that could install bike lanes with no reduction in parking. incredibly frustrating to see easy wins like routine paving getting fumbled
freshly paved block of south orange st between columbus ave and west water st, with layout markings for paint. being retained is angled police parking, parallel parking, and two travel lanes, one of which is 20’ wide for no good reason. a previous concept plan would have put in striped buffered bike lanes simply by reducing the travel lanes to standard dimensions

we cant build something new because of traffic, we cant improve public transit because it will degrade traffic, everyone is an overnight expert on sanitary sewer capacity, and existing residents who drive cars don’t count towards traffic. the four horsemen of public meetings
