This has been a significant contributor to homelessness: In 2019 SK Govt ended direct payment of rent & utilities by SK Income Support (SIS). “Previously, rent & utility bills were automatically paid directly to landlords & utilities, & the support client would receive the remaining balance.”

A 30-year-old woman died of a pulmonary embolism from a broken ankle after she had been sent home and her surgery to set it delayed for a week. This was at Saskatoon’s Royal University Hospital, the province’s major tertiary hospital, which has been overcapacity for almost all of the past 6 years.
