A black-and-white newspaper photograph shows a crashed American Airlines 707 jet sitting in shallow water and mud near the edge of Boston Harbor. The aircraft is viewed almost directly from the front, with its nose and cockpit facing the camera. The forward fuselage and nose are heavily damaged, while portions of the wings and engines remain visible on either side.

A large bulldozer is positioned directly in front of the aircraft, clearing or pushing a path through the muddy ground toward the wreckage. Deep tracks and disturbed earth extend from the foreground toward the airplane. Several people are gathered around the crash site, including a group of onlookers or workers in the lower-right foreground and additional people standing near the aircraft.

The aircraft is partially surrounded by shallow water. Across the water in the background is a shoreline lined with trees and buildings. The photograph is surrounded by a white newspaper border.

A caption beneath the photograph reads “BULLDOZING A PATH FOR CRASHED JET.” The accompanying newspaper text states that workers were clearing a path to high ground at Boston from the edge of the harbor to haul ashore the American Airlines 707 Astrojets. The article says the aircraft crashed into shallow water Sunday and was carrying 71 persons. It also reports that all survived but that a rescuer later died of a heart attack. The photograph is credited to AP Wirephoto.
