This happened at a job I had once. It was a private franchise location and the family that owned just texted everyone one night that they sold. I never saw them again and the new management was there the next day.

Not to defend AI users, but I gotta imagine a lot of why people don't see this as a problem is because higher education, especially in America, is seen as a ticket into a better job. It's not viewed as an opportunity to learn, but a task where the value is only in its completion.

When I was seeking an engineering degree, one of my professors did set aside a little warm up every day to talk about ethics. Up to and including "Your child is accused of sexual assault. You are asked to testify at the trial. Discuss." Heard some bleak answers though.
