Oh no they made a new Lara Craft game.

I also like @albanvillamil.bsky.social’s synthesis
Forms of Organizational Ignorance
Rational
Ignorance
How do the costs (both material and non-material) of pursuing knowledge outweigh its benefits to an organization?
Strategic Ignorance
How can ignorance be used strategically within an organization?
How can it be
used to "command resources, assert expertise, and deny personal or institutional liability"?
Negative
Knowledge
What types of knowledge does an organization label as useless, sensitive, or dangerous? What knowledge should not be produced?
Pluralistic Ignorance
How do
organizations reinforce social norms that aren't privately supported by misattributing the feelings and motives of others?
Structured Ignorance
How does ignorance accumulate and become institutionalized over time? How do
"best practices,"
funding structures, and designated roles produce ignorance?
Based on Jennifer C. Mueller's (2018) "Advancing a Sociology of Ignorance in the Study of Racism and Racial Non-Knowing"

I’m in awe seeing the very large and powerful make the very small and delicate, and I’m reminded that big events can contain smaller processes that can produce wonders. (This is also a reminder to do something for your community today.)

One of the most poetic images of technology I have seen lately, in a context that reflects well on all of us.
Aerial photograph of Integrity seconds before splashing down in the Pacific Ocean. The re-entry module is starkly visible against a deep blue background of the ocean's surface, and three large red and white parachutes attached by gossamer-seeming threads are gently holding it up.

My act of quixotic optimism this week is watering & fertilizing the moss growing in-between the roofing cracks on my apartment’s balcony so it survives but also thrives during this heat wave. (It survives every year without my help but this year I’ve decided that is not enough)
A close-up photo of green moss with mottled brown spots growing in between cracks on a black tar and grey crushed stone tiled roofing level on a balcony/fire escape.

It has been freshly dampened and and is actively absorbing water and the dried spots are slowly rehydrating.

Which dynamics they gesture at:
Previous research has identified that intrusion and loss of autonomy during the disclosure process can hinder IPV victims’ willingness to seek help32,33,34. Therefore, when utilizing the models in any IPV screening support system, it is crucial to implement safeguards to ensure that IPV-related conversations are conducted sensitively without compromising patient autonomy.

I went check in on the bad place and found that the url contains ‘logout’, which explains why I keep having to login on my monthly visits. My guess is they’re force-logging people out to get them on the app. Hostile AND incompetent, as usual.

Crime in San Francisco is getting out of hand - Giant skeletons are roaming the land. People fear walking the streets at night Lest they encounter fright – then delight!
A Halloween decoration that is a large skeleton around 9 to 10 feet high with glowing animated eyes. The skeleton is positioned behind the staircase leading up to the first floor of a house and has one arm extended toward the street.

Dr. Damien P. Williams @wolven...
Y'all when I tell you that this current paradigm of "Al" being shoved down our throats does real, persistent harm, and that said harm will fall first on the most
marginalized and then on everyone else, this is the shit l mean. I mean god DAMN.

Quoting:
Sheryl Weikal @leftist…:
I have three hearings at three different courthouses today. At the second, someone was sobbing outside the courtroom. They'd asked ChatGPT what to say in Court. They believed what it told them.
They lost because it hallucinated, and they didn't know there were no do-overs.

45 minutes after getting in line at my local DMV the CA DMV status website is still not sure where in line I am. Glad to see we’re doing eventual consistency via telegraph again.

A pox on whoever at @evernote.bsky.social destroyed one of the core attributes of the Paper app (freedom from distraction) in order to upsell AI features in another app. This is a great way to tell your customers that you plan to destroy the app in future and to stop giving you money right away.

You know you have had bad UX for a long time when your app needs to tell people that you have table stakes usability now (though that is also demonstrably false).
a screenshot from the Kobo Desktop app. The main feature of the image is a large, bold, black font that reads "Manage your books on Kobo Desktop". Below this headline, there's additional text in smaller font size explaining how to use this tab in the app. It says: "Manage your Kobo Desktop books by downloading or removing eBooks. To download a single item, click the download icon on the book cover. You can also select multiple items to download or remove as a group."

At the bottom, there's a red button with white text that says "Got it!".

It’s delightful how many assholes come pre-blocked on BlueSky just by subscribing to a few block lists. It’s so peaceful seeing a blocked skeet snd remembering you don’t need to see it at all. I just discovered Domechild btw, can’t wait to crack my copy open when I get a chance.

7/7 a 30 minute car ride with 5 people , peaking at 3745 ppm. Ironically, this is in a car with built-in AQI sensor and air filters.

6/ at the airport terminal, at what appeared to be a very low traffic period A low of 773 ppm, probably a reasonable estimate (I was only in the terminal for about 15 minutes)

5/ in flight, hovering around 1200 ppm I don’t have an explanation for the dips and peaks. Middle seat was empty, and my mask has down-facing vents. Sensor was placed in the seat pocket.

4/ still at the gate, dropping quickly, currently at 1290 ppm. The air conditioning is clearly on, and the temperature is dropping as well. I have no idea if / what filters they use, and cannot find documentation anywhere.
