Nah, we all know having a million things to do might be good for your exposure or you're a helpful person in the industry, but it rarely means more money. #avintheam

Quoting. Mfg need to calm down with part numbers, scopes and contracts don't need 50 pages of marketing fluff. Keep it short and readable. #avintheam

000

Ahh, I get it. That's annoying.

What make/model? Depending there are some default codes or you need a technician remote.

I'm out at BSides #Albuquerque today and tomorrow. Come say hi, come see me talk tomorrow at 9:50am about, you guessed it, audio visual.

I used to play this game in my 20s. I'm fortunate to have never had a serious injury. Some of the thing I need treatment for, insurance ain't cover, so... I'm guess I still don't understand insurance.

@thecourtneyesmith.bsky.social how long until croissants are snapped up by PE?

The fair market value vs underpeiced MSRP is a little too on the nose for me.

AV MSP/Colin Birney @av-msp.com · 21/09/2026

I'm pretty sure that one is a parody post..

Safe travels! *sad, trainless american noises*

We can accept that burger fixing and hot dog fixings are a good time. You just need a protein medium.

I'm letting go of trying to replicate meat, but sometimes the options are a little tiring. It's nice to have a different texture or flavor :)

I follow you here but I don't remember if I know you irl from RVA, if I'm being honest.

De-escalation training is really helpful. I'd recommend it as something to put customer facing roles through if you can.

I have an ok seitan pepperoni recipe I've tried, but you've got to cook them to the borderline of burned. And the grease level is wrong. Are these greasy?

The time from inspiration to posting is so impressive.

My partner and I were taking about what we miss after becoming vegetarian. Neither of us miss a nice cut of well cooked meat. My partner misses hotdogs, I miss pepperoni.

It really doesn't need to be a single thing, it's the cumulative kind words and genuine thanks that add up.

As someone in service, I'm enjoying the time I spend with customers. It's the direct impact of what I do that makes all of this worth doing. Hearing that people notice I care means a lot. #avintheam #avtweeps

I sometimes feel insignificant in the world of billion dollar companies. I value the people who can take time to make a one on one connection. I used to have a lot more catch ups with people I trusted and wanted to hear from. Those happen a lot less now. #avintheam #avtweeps

I've also decided to be myself and not try to sound like I'm trying to hard. People respond to authenticity and it's hard to fake that (and exhausting if you try). #avintheam #avtweeps

Absolutely you can. Mine have improved immensely over my career. I've had a few folks give me good guidance on my corporate interactions and in my personal life, I've worked to improve how I listen and respond to people I'm taking with.

Come join AV in the AM, a weekly conversation between me and Chris because nobody in AV is brave enough to come hang out on BlueSky.

I guess it's whether someone seems to care what I think and will listen to my perspective, so how they make me feel. #avintheam #avtweeps

When you have an industry that seems to attract neurodiverge folks, I think you have to understand you're going to get some very different ways of communicating. Some people feel abrupt, but I know they're not. Some info dump, but it's because they have passion.

I'm starting my first post off with a provocative title and a hot take. What does it mean that something is "usable"?

Understand how humans interact with tech. The best systems are pointless if the usability is crap, AI can't talk with and understand a user's goals and frustrations. I'll use this as a good time to plug the merry penguin's articles on usability.. substack.com/home/post/p-... #avtweeps #avintheam

Usability is Meaningless

AV MSP/Colin Birney @av-msp.com · 19/09/2026

Being honest, I've cratered more than one Linux install because I still struggle with permissions, c&p commands I don't fully understand in an attempt to fix an issue. A machine using that kind of process and logic is going to be far more destructive than I can be (because I eventually give up).

AV MSP/Colin Birney @av-msp.com · 19/09/2026

I feel like we've forgotten the amount of damage a human can do when given escalated privileges on a system they don't understand. If you let a computer engage in that behavior automatically, powered by the stupid things you can find on the internet, it's going to replicate that activity.

AV MSP/Colin Birney @av-msp.com · 19/09/2026

These were apparently a thing in the late 1800s..

I went to a medical tech conference and most exhibitors were LLM AI. I saw a transcribing company I know. They told me they're recording medical terminology in a bunch of accents and languages, because that's what is required for them to serve the medical field. They don't mess around.

AV MSP/Colin Birney @av-msp.com · 17/09/2026

I do not understand using LLMs, that are designed to summarize and rephrase, for something that requires transcription. Transcription is secure, mature, and accurate these days. It can run locally in a computer.

Awesome! I've been telling all of my friends about it. Thank you for the app!!

AV MSP/Colin Birney @av-msp.com · 16/09/2026

Glad to see more apps scanning for Meta glasses, but s/o to @yjeanrenaud.bsky.social for being possibly the first with an app and it's free, unlike the $25 price tag of the pro zuckoff app. Download nearby glasses, it's on Yves' account, pinned.

I was at a beer festival, late in the day, and saw a woman vape, visibly swallow, and then no vape came out her nose or mouth. I guess you can just do that.

🙏 that's a rough one. godspeed.

This went up at a store nearby as it started. Telling us not to worry and just kind of blaming Mexico for the issue.
