A comedy-war-crime caper. Set at the height of WW2 in Europe it still feels like a 70s movie thanks to Donald Sutherland’s hippy tank commander. Eastwood and Savalas play it absolutely straight and le...

Another sci-fi/fantasy movie from the same year as Gor and, while marginally better, it’s not by much. Apart from Patrick Swayze it has a few notable faces, especially Christopher Neame, Brian James a...

Cheap and not so cheerful adaptation of the Gor fantasy novels. Never read them, so unfamiliar with much of the themes and background, but do remember seeing the lurid covers in many a second hand boo...

Another rental and it’s a film I remember renting back in the day. Despite looking a bit 80s TV SF (I’m thinking Buck Rogers or Battlestar Galactica) it really works as a modern Arthurian fable (They ...

Jackie Chan at the height of his powers. Who cares that it’s Vancouver for New York! Chaos and carnage and Hong Kong Kung Fu goes stateside. Might be interesting to see the undubbed HK cut sometime. E...

It’s always remembered as a Robin Williams film, but he’s barely in it despite his importance to the plot. Amazing performances from the whole cast. Shocking and sad. Oh Captain, my Captain….

Another film I’m following my youngest into after he chose it as one of his first rentals. What a sweet film and a brilliant decision to do a reverse Wizard of Oz and have the real world in colour and...

Michael Caine and Stallone doing The Great Escape with footballers? It’s a definite Sunday afternooner. Lots of faces that are instantly recognisable and having the Nazi’s defeated by Pele’s overhead ...

It’s Stallone. It’s action. It’s lots of things exploding and some familiar styles of fashion and music. It’s pretty brain dead, but is exactly what you expect!

My son has started an exploration of Film Noir and I’ve dived in with him to check out his selection. Having seen The Third Man before I’m pleased to see Graham Greene’s name on this and you can tell ...

Always love a bit of Sherlock Holmes and I’m genuinely surprised that this didn’t do well enough to bring the cast back for another go round. Notable that my wife (who picked this) had never seen the ...

One of those sci-fi movies set in a future that is now the past and, unlike Blade Runner for example, it’s a future that has aged badly. In common with another movie we rented from Snips it tries to m...

A fun family adventure film that has a behind the scenes story that’s just as interesting as the final product. Developed since the 60s by stop motion animator David Allen it originally went before th...

Harrison Ford in, on the surface, a police procedural about crooked cops, but is actually quite a gentle character piece about a fish out of water city boy suddenly living the quiet life amongst the A...

Described as a fantasy romantic comedy, it doesn’t have the laugh out loud aspects of the other 80s time travel movie, Back to the Future. It benefits from a very strong cast (too many to mention), bu...

A dystopian future where violent sports are the opiate for the masses is a good parallel with the Bread and Circuses of the Roman Empire. The question is why are they trying to retire Jonathan E and, ...

It’s cheesy, cheap and feels like a throwback to the 70s thanks to Battlestar Galactica’s Richard Hatch and the great John Saxon as the villain!

My second movie featuring Sarah Douglas in a row! Arnie seemed to have taken some more acting lessons since the first one and the decision to tone down the violence in exchange for bit of humour makes...

Someone had been watching Mad Max before making this post apocalyptic adventure movie and thought “What this needs is more Roller Hockey/Lacrosse!” Produced at a great loss by Mel Brooks (really?)  it...

Attack Of The 50ft Nerds · Episode

Okay. This is a dreadful movie everywhere that matters. There’s barely a plot. (It literally looks like someone played with a bunch of toys and said “Make this”) The script isn’t great. Some of the ef...
