Tell me Orwell is not describing AI slop.
Quote from the book 1984: “Here were produced rubbishy newspapers containing almost nothing except sport, crime and astrology, sensational five-cent novelettes, films oozing with sex, and sentimental songs which were composed entirely by mechanical means on a special kind of kaleidoscope known as a versificator.”Quote from the book 1984: “she worked, as he had guessed, on the novel-writing machines in the Fiction Department.”Quote from the book 1984: “She could describe the whole process of composing a novel, from the general directive issued by the Planning Committee down to the final touching-up by the Rewrite Squad. But she was not interested in the finished product. She "didn't much care for reading," she said. Books were just a commodity that had to be produced, like jam or bootlaces.”

Any political considerations notwithstanding, Telegram always had the best sticker game. I never found a sticker that expressed the whole “i feel you, sending you a hug” conundrum (as a virtual hug is, well, not really a hug) better as this sticker from one of the weirdest series of all times.
Comic drawing of Jude Law as the young pope from the TV series “The young Pope”, hugging a kangaroo.

I just remembered Mafalda exists and how I read every comic multiple times as a kid and teen and now I feel a little better
Screenshot from the Argentinian comic “Mafalda”. Mafalda steps on a chair, says first “ahem” and then “From this humble little chair, I make an in impassioned call for world peace!”. In the last panel, walking off she says “anyway! … these days I think the Vatican, the UN and my little chair have the same powers or persuasion.”

I was curious as to how this would be translated and I’m deeply disappointed (appalled even) that “mit dem Arsch einreißen”, arguably one of the best sayings in the German language, simply turned into “undo”.

“When you outsource your mind to AI, you are insourcing AI into your mind.”
Screenshot of the following text: “I suggest that there is a dose effect to how much engagement with AI creeps into our psychological systems in very much the same way our psychological systems are retrained by close relationships with others - for good or for bad. AI platforms have the capacity to reshape our coping architectures by way of cognitive offloading, algorithmic feedback loops, and interfere with of our capacity for introspection. The more we use them, the more they become integrated into our own emotional architectures.”
