This quote highlights why The Wire is the greatest show. Its message resonates throughout so many levels of our society. Even with the disgusting situation at Cornell….and in my own field, people will collaborate or stay connected to men who have victims, all just to elevate themselves. It’s gross

57 men were in the Cornell group chat….57 men said nothing. Those 57 likely went into their own social circles and made light of the situation to peers. The amount of people who were okay with what happened is insane and sickening. But sadly people will look past a lot for the sake of “friendship”

Really insightful post on DEI and why you can’t be an advocate and ally while also trying to people please. This is a big reason we see performative actions without a real means to dismantle problematic systems. Doing the bare minimum doesn’t make you an exception.

DEI and people-pleasing don't mix: Disrupting the status quo is necessary for equality | Paul Ladipo posted on the topic | LinkedIn
DEI and people-pleasing don't mix. It is easy for DEI advocates to fall into the trap of people-pleasing because they don't want to ruffle any feathers while championing for equality. But here's the ...

Hurricane Helene deposited nearly one-fifth of annual microplastics at one North Carolina site
Microplastics are often linked to urban areas near roads and development, but a new study shows that wind and rain carry them from the atmosphere into remote headwaters — a process intensified by majo...

This is me whenever I hear specific people or their friends speaking on my name or my character. They know to keep their stories isolated to gossip with students or people who do not know me. I could shut it all down quick if I really wanted to air it all out.

One thing I’ve noticed are students and trainees that put so much ego and worth into a title, that they can’t handle being corrected when wrong. The use of “imposter syndrome” gets thrown around but they also don’t work to become proficient, they just focus on how they have imposter syndrome

Being past tenure, I look back on my first 5 years. My message to early career faculty. You don't have to prove you are a good Pl by tolerating mistreatment, gaslighting, and manipulation. Everyone has a sad story until you start sharing the details of what really happened and their poor behavior.

People like to believe that they don’t harbor prejudices or biases. Sadly, most don’t realize how conditioned they are to it. The tight rope Black people have to walk on can be so tiresome….we don’t get to be human. Most can only tolerate us when we are docile or smiling. Either a hero or a monster…

Some people think just admitting to something they did wrong is taking accountability. Accountability is acknowledging why it was wrong and how they should have acted better, and seeing how they did created issues regarding trust. Having zero introspection allows for the cycle to be repeated again.

When I show up to work, I have to lose my humanity. Black people are typically only accepted when we smile, accept disrespect, have unlimited empathy, and remain docile. If we exhibit regular human behavior we are treated as though we are violent, angry, intimidating people. #BlackInSTEM

A lot of “allies” who posted black squares on IG years ago and said they were “doing the work” are very silent in regards to the Karmelo Anthony verdict as well as the murder of Cyrus Carmack-Belton. It’s not surprising in the slightest. Speaking up on these matters requires people to actually care.
