PAX West'26 concluded on Labor Day, and with it my annual curation of the First Look sector. First Look are up-and-coming games & games that one might not be able to get in the U.S. It's a hoot to scout out options and showcase them for others (literally thousands) to enjoy. . .

The relief of rain this weekend. We often presume that we will always have replenished, easily accessed water. Instead of practicing water conservation when reaching drastic conditions (Colorado River, Lake Powell, etc), practice such conservation ALL THE TIME.

Radical idea: Legislation that only allows fact-based media reporting. Any fictional information promoted/put forth, in any media reporting, immediately bars that media, group, or person from any access to distribution. The question would be: —how to tune this to avoid loopholes or side-effects?

How much damage to do we do, to ourselves, our social circles, and the environment by avoiding thinking about the complexities? Where does the urgency come from, to do things faster? That conflicts with the imperative. When we do things faster, what complexities are we willfully ignoring? 2/n

The biological imperative: use minimal energy (and/or be highly efficient with energy) to maximize results. Consider our sociocultural tendency to simplify things: how is this not a version of the biological imperative? Worse: how we tend to avoid complex things. 1/n

With body dysmorphia, it is all-too-easy to buy into GLP-1s as a 'quick fix'. Struggling with one's own mass is valid & real: we live in a phase of great food abundance, and great food options. It means we have to self-educate on how to self-manage, or face long-term, permanent consequences. 5/n

When we literally buy into culture of immediacy, we do so will willful ignorance: glad to avoid thinking about the consequences, because we get what we want NOW. We have one body, capable of many things, and it has limits. Denying it's complicated fragility only leads to drastic consequences. 4/n

Suffice to say, that there remain 'no shortcuts' in life. Many of the side-effects (and the dependency) are problematic, both short- and long-term (e.g. loss of bone density). In a culture of immediacy, GLP-1s are attractive for the short-term 'gains' (no inverse pun intended). 3/n

It is established how quickly mass re-accumulates post-abandoning GLP-1 meds (most folk don't sustain diet & exercise practices in concert). Thus, folk need to 'stick' (no pun intended) with the medications in order to stave off the mass. No longitudinal studies have been done on these meds. 2/n

Vox, the New York Post, and a small handful of other outlets have been recently publishing pieces on the side-effects of using GLP-1 medications. The symptoms are problematic and manifold, as they promote additional cosmetic procedures that are (generally) unnecessary. 1/n

What I find incredibly problematic with 'ghost kitchens': --lack of public health regulation --lack of socioeconomic accountability --lack of sustainability --lack of psychosocial accountability --further drains resources away from local communities to affluents elsewhere

Now to find out about 'ghost kitchens' (see: Eddy Burback's 'Deceptive World of Ghost Kitchens' via YouTube). If I ever needed a reason to continue avoiding food delivery, this is it. The premise of ghost kitchens just exacerbates the concept of greed in our communities. 3/3

The premise felt. . .indulgent. A luxury and a 'premium' convenience, to have food delivered to one's front door. It reeked of greed, indolence, sloth, and waste. I did it _once_ (during pandemic shutdowns) and even that felt icky. . .even if it _did_ support locally owned restauranteurs. 2/3

When the pandemic shutdowns occurred, ordering from restaurants took a substantial pause. Food delivery emerged (and/or rapidly increased), as a mitigation effort for restaurants to be accessible by consumers. . . .at the same time that folk _could_ just go pickup the food ourselves. 1/3
