Async React keeps search and booking actions responsive with 𝚞𝚜𝚎𝙾𝚙𝚝𝚒𝚖𝚒𝚜𝚝𝚒𝚌, 𝚜𝚝𝚊𝚛𝚝𝚃𝚛𝚊𝚗𝚜𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗, and 𝚞𝚜𝚎𝙰𝚌𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗𝚂𝚝𝚊𝚝𝚎. Server Functions write and refresh data with 𝚞𝚙𝚍𝚊𝚝𝚎𝚃𝚊𝚐. 𝚅𝚒𝚎𝚠𝚃𝚛𝚊𝚗𝚜𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗 animates loading and confirmation.

The filters use 𝚞𝚜𝚎𝚃𝚛𝚊𝚗𝚜𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗 to fade the catalog while the server updates and 𝚞𝚜𝚎𝙾𝚙𝚝𝚒𝚖𝚒𝚜𝚝𝚒𝚌 to apply the next filter values immediately. Rebuilding the demo also improved initial loading. First Contentful Paint was 44% faster and Largest Contentful Paint was 33% faster than the original.

Cache Components prerenders static, cached, and fallback UI. Partial Prefetching brings that reusable route UI to the browser before navigation. Add 𝚙𝚛𝚎𝚏𝚎𝚝𝚌𝚑={𝚝𝚛𝚞𝚎} when a link should also resolve its URL-dependent content before the click. Anything still missing loads on the server and streams in.

Instant Navigations lets server-rendered routes respond immediately when you click, even on a throttled connection: 𝚌𝚘𝚗𝚜𝚝 𝚗𝚎𝚡𝚝𝙲𝚘𝚗𝚏𝚒𝚐 = { 𝚌𝚊𝚌𝚑𝚎𝙲𝚘𝚖𝚙𝚘𝚗𝚎𝚗𝚝𝚜: 𝚝𝚛𝚞𝚎, 𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚝𝚒𝚊𝚕𝙿𝚛𝚎𝚏𝚎𝚝𝚌𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐: 𝚝𝚛𝚞𝚎 };

Vercel just launched @matiNotFound's WebGPU library for shipping shaders in the browser: vgpu.sh Mati suggested to put it on the next-beats.dev album art and helped me with some ideas. I used the skills that ship with vgpu, plus GPT to generate inspiration, then turned it into a shader!

«use client» also runs during SSR and then hydrates the component in browser. This api is to opt out of the server part. And it is not only for frameworks that implement «use client», it can be useful for any react framework that does SSR!

As a long-time Next.js user, these are the sort of experiences I used to dream of. The server model gives you composition, reuse, fast initial loads, and less JavaScript to ship. Now we can keep those benefits and still build apps that don't feel worse than a client-side SPA.

Next.js 16.3 includes better ISR: Pages can now show an instant loading shell on first visit, and then upgrade to a fully prerendered page in the background (cached). This comes in handy for apps with a large number of locales!
