I'm really trying my best to lose myself in learning and doing projects. I'm 3D printing all the things, I'm CNCing wood, I'm laser etching and cutting leather and fabric, I'm learning how to sew, and today going to try embroidery for the first time Meanwhile Friday at my job looks like this 🫠

I often talk about thinking of 3D printers like sewing machines—tools that might not be in every house, but are pretty ubiquitous and with a little practice allow you a lot of freedom to make things But, I didn't actually know how to sew, so my wife taught me and I made my first hat. Cat for scale

I really should get a corner radius gauge, but this worked pretty well A little talked about feature of the iPhone I love is the crosshairs that appear when you’re shooting down at a surface to help you be perfectly level to help prevent distortion

My dad asked if I would give him one of my 'reject' magnetic knife block prototypes. I'd much rather send him a custom one for his kitchen I'm proud of, so made a new one Leather and white oak, two tone dye, finished with orange oil and bees wax. I love the back details that nobody but him will see

I made leather covers for the 3D printed magnet holders and painted the screw heads

Signed it with my Japanese middle name, which is also a bit of a personal family name

The oil and wax finish on the leather and two tone dye job gives it a nice antique feel that should hopefully patina further nicely over time

Random fun fact: I designed the teaser website for Shaolin Monks, I was doing a lot of marketing stuff for Midway then It's all lost to the sands of time now because everything then was in Flash, but I probably have mockups for it still on an old hard drive

Catching up on my email now that I'm back from Evo and had this gem from my favorite Canadian knife store 50% tariff plus a $25 fee just to order something that nobody in the US is making in the first place Anyways, this is gonna apply to a lot of stuff, so maybe be prepared

Trump has announced the removal of the De Minimis Exception on orders under $800, effective August 29. In plain English, this means that any order you make from outside the U.S.A. will be subject to tariffs and fees starting on that date. We're talking 15% on Japanese items, 35% on Canadian goods, plus a $25 processing fee on every single order.
