My Human Heart

Every bit of my human heart aches
While justice screams at lies and fakes.
The balance of power has once again tipped
And rules that keep us civil have flipped.
Terror and murder are leading the way
And precious lives are lost in the fray.
Women and children are seen as less
While youth are radicalized into this mess.
Brothers and sisters ripped from their homes,
Leaving our children to grow up alone.
Everyday as we wake to a new horror show,
My human heart aches for compassion to grow.
For people to know that they matter again,
For the mask of hate to lift and love to win!
Only then can we find our way back to peace.
Only then will the fear and violence cease.

The other day I rescued a dragonfly that had flipped upside down on the lake. He perched on my hand for a good 10 minutes while he dried out, cleaning his face and testing out his wings. He finally flew off! Yesterday, this gal hung out on my hat for a good long while! Mutual gratitude!

Minnesota summer lake life is about as good as it gets! The skies are filled with soaring eagles and loon songs echo across the calm water. The forest is full of healing herbs at the perfect point for harvest. On this solstice eve I am grateful to the Ojibwe Nation for sharing this sacred land.
