Not sure I've ever seen the moth.

This is our Ella Coaltrain. She can be one crazy-looking cat, indeed.

Gray and white cat with crazy eyes and slightly gaping mouth.

I had a variegated fritillary yesterday! Such a beauty.

Spotted yellow, black, and brown butterfly with wings spread, atop green ground weeds.

We came across one on a walk a couple of weeks ago. At first I thought its foot was caught, but no, it had something too big to fly away with that it was trying to eat. Not bothered at all by us being within a dozen feet of it. 😮

For reference, here's the (American) version I have in hand.

Dust jacket for the version of the book I have in hand. Very different from the aforementioned. Dark, bluescale, setting sun reflected on water.

I, in the U.S., am about to start reading this book by one of my favorite writers, @lizstrout.bsky.social. It has a very different dust jacket than the one I saw on the Booker Prize site. I guess that's for the UK version? Funny, though, it's an American artist obviously inspired by Edward #Hopper!

Dust jacket of new book by Elizabeth Strout. The background is a painting very reminiscent of Edward Hopper's "Rooms by the Sea." Sparse, sunlit room with only the ocean visible through the window.

This is chilling. Just galloping down the road to a dictatorship.

@dieworkwear.bsky.social Am I wrong to think this looks just awful? If not, can you explain why? I don't get men's fashion so well. :)

They're a species in the family of "assassin bugs." Here's the largest species in that family, the wheel bug. We get them in our yard and are not fond of them because they lie in wait on our flowers for Monarch butterflies and kill them.

Photo of a wheel bug, the largest species in the family of assassin bugs. Very creepy and ugly. It looks like a tiny armored dinosaur.

For perspective, from Deadline 15 years ago. Late night TV has lost a LOT of live viewership. Even so, it's hard to believe that The Late Show is losing money.
