5. Harvest Moon 64 was my Stardew Valley, though I would play that too much later. I was blown away by the possibilities: minigames! festivals! random cutscenes! recipes! marriage candidates! So immersive and relaxing (except for, as always, the fishing 😅)

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest was revolutionary to me for its full-game co-op mode - I truly believe my sister and I are as close as we are today because we got a Super Nintendo & started playing couch co-op together. I usually played Dixie Kong, she played Diddy. A+ soundtrack, also.

2. Day of the Tentacle is a point-and-click adventure about stopping the world takeover of an evil tentacle monster named Purple Tentacle. It also has time travel and incredibly bizarre, weird-ass humor. What more could a young August want? (My sister and I randomly quoted this game for years.)

1. The '90s PC game "J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings Vol. 1" had gamebreaking bugs that were part of its charm(??), like a wall in Bree that would kill your whole party if you ran into it. My dad introduced my sister & I to gaming with this one; I still have the original 88-page(!) manual
