NYC Parks and Columbia University Rowing Dock— completed about a year ago in the Harlem River next to the Columbia Tennis center.

It is pretty much maxed out. Where there should be a ramp down to the water, it is flat.Tidal Marsh off the Harlem River. NYC Parks department Inwood Hill Park Nature center is adjacent. This dock was rebuilt a few years ago after being destroyed in 2012 by Hurricane Sandy. The floating part is bent up at an odd angle because it is too high. The dryland of Inwood Hill park is becoming marshland of the Harlem River. Mapquest suggests using Broadway, St Nicks or 3rd Av- where there was just a fatality. All routes take 2 hours, about twice the actual travel time. Mapquest routing options are car centric. No options for safety or tailored to bikes. Receipt from citibike ride. Typical upper Manhattan to downtown Brooklyn route. Uses Westside greenway. Safe and minimal traffic lights so also fast 64 minutes this day on a electric citibike

For East Harlem, there are two alignment scenarios 1) Seaward 2) Landward For waterfront greenway interested folks #bikeNYC #NYC , the seaward seems like an option w space for a bike road between the highway and East/Harlem Rivers. Plus there is a bigger area […] [Original post on fediscience.org]
Image of the Harlem River in the 140's/150's with a green area shaded of reduced risk. The left is the landward alignment, the right is the seaward alignment. There is more green area (reduced risk) of the seaward alignment.Aerial view and cross section of the landward alignment. It is basically a REALLY BIG concrete barrier in the highway itself, with no buttressing of the seawall. Figure 14/15: The Seaward Alignment. Upper figure is the Cross section, lower figure is an aerial view. This would go from MTA’s 148th Street Rail Yard to the northern end of NYCHA’s Rangel Houses property, tying into high ground at +15.6 feet NAVD88 or greater, with the top of the wall elevation at +17.5 feet NAVD88.The NYNJHATS East Harlem Action area begins where the current Harlem River Greenway ends. The Seaward Alignment looks like it could add to the greenway.

I got to know @kathhayhoe writing for the 4th National Climate Assessment. The National Climate Assessment serves regular Americans. It translates jargon-y, global predictions from the IPCC- intergovernmental panel on climate change - into digestible […] [Original post on fediscience.org]
Image of the BlueSky post from Katherine Hayhoe.

It says The US Global Change Research Program's website, including all its sub-domains that host the National Climate Assessments and related reports, is now offline.

The 1990 Global Change Research Act (see below) mandates its research finding be available to all federal agencies & departments.

It then has a picture that says (cut and paste from https://www.congress.gov/bill/101st-congress/senate-bill/169):

Global Change Research Act of 1990 - Title I: United States Global Change Research Program - Directs the President ['and appointed council to'],
...to increase the effectiveness and productivity of Federal global change research efforts.
... to establish an interagency United States Global Change Research Program to improve understanding of global change.
... to develop a National Global Change Research Plan for implementation of the Program ... ...
