Problem is, his core instincts are always wrong, like: . aligning himself with Trump . promoting nuclear . proposing tax deductible lunches for bosses . wanting to end WFH . using his son as a prop and . responding to a make believe threat by verballing a foreign leader #auspol #AusVotes

Dutton was quite happy to insert his son into the political conversation when he thought it would be to his advantage - but apparently now 'it’s not about our family, it’s about every other family.' #auspol #AusVotes

Such a relief to see that, while the US and the rest of the world are grappling with financial chaos and the possible end of a democracy, the White House are focussing on the important things.

We know Trump's tariff formula wasn't based on tariffs but on trade deficits. But it seems they got this formula wrong as well. Had they applied the formula correctly, the tariffs would have been about a quarter of the announced levels. Talk about amateur hour. www.aei.org/economics/pr...

Trump's indiscriminate tariffs will hit developing countries (like Vietnam & Cambodia) really hard because of the size of the tariffs & the extent that these countries depend on the US for export income. It's incumbent on our govt to advocate for them & provide what direct assistance we can. #auspol

About 37% of public servants are based in Canberra. This equates to about 77,669 in 2024-25. Dutton has repeatedly said he will cut 41,000 Canberra public servants which is more than 50% of the total. Where is the outrage about the resulting devastation to families & the local economy? #auspol

Extract from a SHH news article which says: The Coalition claimed it would reduce the wholesale gas price from $14 to $10 or lower per gigajoule, but the most recent figures from the Australian Energy Regulator show that average prices have been below $14 in recent months.
The regulator said the average price was $12.17 in Victoria in the financial year to date, compared to $13.12 in Sydney, $13.67 in Brisbane and $13.16 in Adelaide.

This is despicable. Dutton is attacking these 2 MPs because he thinks their seats are in play, not because they are any 'greener' than other Independents. When you think he can't go any lower, Dutton always proves you wrong. We'll become a much meaner country if he wins. #auspol #AusVotes25

Dutton says he'll halve the fuel excise & implies the av saving per week per vehicle will be $14. There are ~15m registered petrol & diesel passenger vehicles in Australia. If, indeed, the $14 is an av per vehicle per week, the total lost revenue will be $10.9b, not the $6b he claims. #auspol

I'd go with the 'incoherent, inconsistent, self-destructive mess' explanation. I also have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.
To the untrained eye, Donald Trump’s tariff policy over the past two months has looked like an incoherent, inconsistent, self-destructive mess. But have you considered the possibility that it is, in fact, the first step of a carefully orchestrated master plan to revive American manufacturing, reduce the national debt, reconfigure the international-alliance system, and deliver the greatest geopolitical deal of the century?

That is the thrust of a new theory that has been gaining currency in Washington, on Wall Street, and in the financial press. The grand bargain that Trump is supposedly planning to strike has even been given a name: the Mar-a-Lago Accord.

Can I ask is there any connection whatsoever with anyone in the Labor Party with this alleged event of which I did not know? No.

It seems it's all Scott's fault that Peter is unpopular with women. So it's not his love of fossil fuels, his divisiveness, his plans to dismantle DEI programs, his negativity, his penchant for pre-selecting men for winnable seats, his WFH stance or his Trump-light persona? 🤔 #auspol #AusVotes25
David Littleproud was asked on Sky News earlier why women still aren’t returning to the party:

I don’t think we can run away from it. I think we lost a lot of female voters at the last election. They weren’t happy with how Scott Morrison handled it … I mean, I don’t think that there was a great love of Scott Morrison, particularly the way he handled some of the incidents that happened here in Parliament House … So Peter is wearing that legacy.

You’ll see as we get close to the election, is greater policies around women. And Peter [Dutton] has a very, very strong record in his support of women in this country.

For this election, Pocock told The Australian Financial Review he had sufficiently consolidated himself as a senator and will no longer receive money from Climate 200.

“Momentum for more genuine representation is growing and there is a new wave of community-backed independents who have a real shot at winning a seat at the next election,” Pocock said in a statement.

“After the major parties’ stitch-up deal on electoral reform earlier this year, this will be the last election where new independent candidates can compete before the system is skewed even further to the advantage of major parties.”
