I volunteer at a foodbank. The spoiled food donated by major retailers is appalling (green bread, moldy produce, expired dairy, exploded canned goods, thawed/refrozen meals, etc ). They get a tax write-off, and we get the trash collection bill.

The house next door to my daughter just sold for $515K (valued 3 years ago at $213K). My daughter paid $197K for her house 3 years ago. $300K price increase in 3 years? The inflated sale price set up her (and everyone else on the street) for a huge property tax increase.
