I petition for them to try out a 'direct democracy' cinema night, where they free up one theatre and people reserve a ticket as a vote for one of a handful of recent releases to bring back. Simple majority wins, minority gets option to switch their vote or refund, public gets whatever tickets left.

I think it's because it's (still) implicitly 'unmanly' to be perceived as ignorant about cars (or to a lesser extent, luxury items), whereas there's not quite the same vulnerability in other areas to outweigh the self-satisfaction of a plausibly deniable "look how *foreign*!" microaggression.

To be clear, it's more in the vein of not rigidly and narrowly defining masculinity as it's *personally* expressed by someone (e.g. a boy wearing a tutu is not exiled from masculinity), not the parenting without adhering to the same toxicity bit, but they're interwoven concepts.
