It may come off as harsh but if we’re going to have stand your ground laws in this country you should be able to shoot these people.

I don’t disagree with that or the points in that thread, but I really think the dominant issue in formerly high performing blue states is just “please pay your taxes so my kid can learn” vs “I will fucking kill you if you make me pay taxes.” Unfortunately the latter has been winning.

I’ll admit I’ve barely touched the models, but the work related thing I’ve wondered the most about is how, if it all, it can attack the really weird lab problems that are a large part of the job. Like is it psychotic enough to work through figuring out that the semi-regular 0.001% noise surplus you

Saying this to your STEM advisor three seconds prior to being slapped in the face and sent back down to the lab.

Someone needs to think of a clever Boston tinged version of this that emphasizes we need a new type of councilor besides “servile underling of the mayor” and “head injured Republican townie”

Amusing that the guy who thinks LIDAR is too immature/expensive for AVs also seems to (implied?) think this is an effective approach to hypersonic aircraft at hundreds of miles.

This was on the campus obviously, but I feel compelled to point out that there was broad bipartisan urgency to rip out speed humps on Allandale next door because they were apparently slightly higher density than initially planned. The Mayor, Councilor Weber, and Councilor Murphy have all touted it!

Every single person who expressed opposition at that meeting would literally explode in a ball of rage if the state tried to dig up the entire corridor for a decade to install a subway line. They’re bouncing from excuse to excuse because the real reason is “I want to speed and double park my car.”

To be honest I’m not really interested in debating anymore with someone who clearly believes in collective punishment, including slaughtering children, something the international community broadly agreed was a red line a century ago. But in a few years when you’re sobbing about how the bombs…

Hunting children for sport is not a predictable part of modern war no matter how many times you claim so. Nor is using human shields, or mass starvation, or bombing hospitals and refugees camps. This is not a radical position.

You got me, I’ve engaged in the dastardly rhetorical maneuver of describing a nuclear power’s army systematically hunting children for sport as aberrant behavior.

Your argument is that it is ok, and in fact justified, for Israeli soldiers to play a game where they pick a body part each day and try to shoot innocent children there.

Did the children being discussed here do that?

The doctors who came back and reported that the snipers were playing games where they targeted different body parts of children each day is the one that really stuck with me.

I get that you guys like repeating this as a sort of self soothing exercise, but it is simply not true that the IRA was more socially and economically radical than overhauling health insurance and ending pre-existing conditions. One still exists and the other was so meager it was undone in two years

I think it’s the responsibility of the one liberal party of the United States of America to take positions such as “immigration is an unalloyed good that has made us who we are and we don’t need to ape reactionary republican policies”, yes. Not really ashamed of that I guess.

Do Democrats have any agency in your understanding, or is their best policy simply to purchase a poll on any question facing them and then immediately take whatever position it says? Because by every indication in this thread you are ok with literally any decision that can be justified that way.

atomenthusiast.bsky.social @atomenthusiast.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
You can see in this the fundamental belief of Biden dead enders, which is that none of the people leading the party have any sort of moral duty to the country and our shared values, and everything is up for sale if you can just find a poll justifying it.

I get you guys are attached to Biden and Dem leadership as some sort of emotional support dolls, but it truly is grotesque that after liberals fought for four years to put them in office they decided to abandon the entire moral culture this nation has developed around immigration because of polls.

Yes famously trans rights were broadly unpopular when they started attacking the issue. Positive immigration attitudes had been increasing and negative decreasing for a quarter century prior to 2021, when Dems decided the only good immigration message was competing with Reps on border security.

Great point, I’m now remembering how Republicans got to unified control of our government with their famous strategy of never attacking an issue where they appear to have the lower ground. It’s unfortunate Harris didn’t find the same success as them utilizing this brand of political genius.

atomenthusiast.bsky.social @atomenthusiast.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
It’s genuinely astounding that even the last year has not managed to teach you anything about the malleability of public opinion. Yes, you’re right, what option did the Democrats have besides to concede this issue entirely to their opponents? Clearly a brilliant strategy that paid dividends.

atomenthusiast.bsky.social @atomenthusiast.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
None of this a full throated endorsement of immigration as a moral good and a net positive for our country. Biden and Kamala didn’t want to take that position because they were busy trying to win a positioning battle by touting that Republicans wouldn’t help them pass their draconian border bill.

This is a brilliant point. Fairbanks is a terrific comparison in that it’s only about 30 degrees colder on average during the winter and is a large metropolis with a bit less than 1/20th the population of Boston. You’ve truly outsmarted the cyclists on this one with this flawless reasoning.

No one made the Democrats concede an election they won! They had six years with control of at least one chamber to investigate one of the architects of that moment, Kavanaugh, and decided it wasn’t worthwhile.

I think the funniest group in all of this is people who came to the right conclusion back then and later talked themselves into “the media tricked me into thinking I saw Biden short circuit on live television for two hours straight.”

It’s really hard to express how much it weighs you down knowing that the entire Boston city government (the mayor, the council, the appointees) simply do not care that a good chunk of residents and their children are being constantly exposed to near death close calls.

Once again they are just completely schizophrenic here, voters are dumb conservative rubes we need to talk to in single syllable words, also the key to winning them is voting for a motion to end debate so as to enable a Republican vote to temporarily not end a subsidy in the ACA Rube-Goldberg.
