We have been proud to be on the front lines of the fight to end child marriage alongside our partners at Unchained At Last — and our state advocates have lobbied in California for the past three years to get this bill passed. It's time to finish the job.

In the Oval Office, Trump's Religious Liberty Commission chair, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, called the separation of church & state the "biggest lie that's been told in America." After reading their report, we beg to differ. Join us Monday for a town hall to break it down. atheists.org/RLC-townhall

Absolutely agree. Unlike the White Christian Nationalist movement and its acolytes, we actually care about religious freedom, pluralism, and government neutrality. And we're proud to work with Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and Jews who share that commitment. Thank you, Professor McQuade!

In the wake of Donald Trump and his Christian Nationalist acolytes hijacking America 250 in an attempt to justify their exclusionary attacks on huge swaths of Americans, why is Chuck Schumer sharing fabricated quotes that sound like the sort of thing fake "historian" David Barton would make up?

Jonathan lays out Schumer's outrageous fabrications here — and adds new details. They edited his Fourth of July post to remove the claim that the founders (unspecified, and apparently all at once?) uttered this sentiment as they left "Constitution [sic] Hall." Yikes.

Adam Keiper, executive editor at @thebulwark.com, found exactly one historical example of the phrase "God's noble experiment" being used: a book review from 1939. The only other times this phrase has *ever* been uttered? Statements from Chuck Schumer, starting in 2003 in Congress.

As with most things this administration does on questions of religion, we're forced to assume the worst. Why keep "agnostic" but not the others? Is it because they want to send a signal to Christian Nationalist chaplains about who they should target for unconstitutional proselytizing?
0161
American Atheists @atheists.org · 08/06/2026
They say their job "is not to adjudicate theological debates" but Pentagon leadership have repeatedly denigrated and attacked atheists and humanists. Their decision to include "agnostic" as a faith code, but not "atheist" or "humanist" — while also having "No Religion" — is bizarre.

American Atheists @atheists.org · 08/06/2026
We're still waiting to hear back from the Pentagon about how they decided how to consolidate these categories. Their "explanation" — that less information somehow helps chaplains better do their job — still doesn't hold water.
