Solar hits 25% supply of electricity on yesterday's cool, sunny Sunday morning. Matches fossil gas & coal for a little bit. On the MISO grid, which serves 45 million people across the center of N. America. #EnergySky ...

My friend transformed a tiny strip of lawn grass into a pollinator paradise with native plants accumulated from hither and yon. You get one shot... why lead a sterile life? (featured: caterpillars of the Milkweed Tussock Moth)

Friend is shopping hybrid vs EVs. Didn't realize he had variable electric rates. Charging overnight (11 pm - 5 am) his fuel costs would be 83% less than gas in Indiana... so think $0.56 / gallon. #DoTheMath #EnergySky

Visual representation of how much U.S. farmland is occupied by solar panels. Some fraction of that yellow also has grazing sheep, pollinator plantings, etc.

...Bought 203 gallons of gas, thus avoided 203 more. Not intuitive, but "daily miles driven" shows how even a small battery range, when topped off every night, can cover a lot of miles. Time for an oil change!

First 10K miles (to me) review. 9 months. Plug-in hybrid. It has an electric motor/battery and a gas engine. Small EV range of 30 and gas range of 495. Despite the tiny EV range, it covered 50% of the 10K miles on electric only... #EnergySky

Full Month #4 for the off-grid solar array. First month to top 1,000 driving miles powered. Covered 94% of my miles... the warm temps also helping driving efficiency. Each unit of energy takes me >25% further than in February.

A first for me... watching barn swallows appearing to gather mud for nesting materials. Although still widespread and thought of as abundant, Barn Swallows have experienced a 38% decline in population since 1970. #BirdSky journal.afonet.org/vol95/iss3/a...

Going to start monthly updates for the new off-grid solar array, expressed as "solar miles generated". FEB covered 1/3 of my miles. MAR production up 51%, but efficiency of the car also up with temps, so total miles +81%. Covered 79% of my driving fuel for March. #EnergySky

Indiana's total installed solar nearly *doubled* in just one year. We installed more than any state save CA and TX. See all the residential, commercial, and community solar projects from the pre-COVID era? Now rounding errors in terms of total capacity. #EnergySky

Distributed energy systems will be more likely to have some portion impacted... at the same time, it avoids centralization risk. As if proving the point, the MISO grid today set a new solar production record (17 GW), even with this particular array offline.
