Sure, you can say "finances" - but I was a latch key kid with 2 working parents and I parented myself. I had no desire to do that to "my" kids. Other people can make their own choices. I own my own. That phrase USUALLY stopped the folks asking.

My house was built by a nuclear physicist who apparently believed if it wasn't going to melt down into radioactive sludge it's fine. Some of the stuff we've fixed is crazy. 100A circuits with 60A rated wire. Not grounded. Obvious what he fixed vs done by electrician during build (to pass inspection)

Doing any of that without reviewing or checking and verifying the source. Absolutely terrible. Code assist is decent, but without experience (like the Jr dev) can make inappropriate design choices and SOMEONE needs to verify and correct.

Every election since, I've voted for the best candidate to move the needle left - and not Independent\3rd party unless the D was just as bad a R (they exist, trust me) or they had an actual shot. I wish I had more time to help find better candidates but my old ass has bills to pay and no xtra time.

You actually DO the GD work to deconstruct that lead you to that vote FIRST. That was me in 2016 (I didn't vote for Trump, I didn't want to vote for Hillary but after a lot of soul searching I did). COVID completed my transition from left leaning conservative to extremely Progressive D.

My feelings on this is WAY too nuanced for this format. But suffice it to say that the # of people I'll give grace to about voting Trump (or his cronies) is very, very small because I'm going to need more than JUST the leopard ate my face and I don't want to have consequences for my actions.

I use an app that lets me mix multiple nature sounds. I mix ocean surf, babbling brook and rainstorm. The loops are long and not obvious. It's better than white noise for me and I can finally fall asleep & sleep through the night most of the time. The app does tons more but this is my main use case.

This is your brain on drugs is more "famous" and later generations know it. BUT - I learned by watching you still gives the chills. Because it is more accurate and still haunts me. For me it was cigarettes (both parents were chain smokers) but I quit in my early 20's (long before my parents did).

A couple of weeks ago I needed to give my address for something and blanked COMPLETELY on the street number. I've lived here for 4 years. I know the cause (hitting menopause, undiagnosed - yet - AuDHD) but still I'm like - WTAF. I can rattle off phone numbers from the 80's and forgot my ADDRESS!

My theory is that slapping felony convictions to follow them forever and take away their right to vote (and interact with society) IS part of the appeal for many. "I didn't get a helping hand, why should they." Rather than helping people AND reducing overall spend. It frankly boggles my mind.

THIS. Even though there is a metric ton of data from other countries that spend a FRACTION per capita to house them with dignity and help as many as possible to get back on their feet. Not everyone CAN, but those that can absolutely WILL and more quickly with less stigma.

We're still working on the complete underlying cause in the meantime - but things went completely wonky for me as I hit menopause. Proper supplementation (with testing) has been a huge boost in my quality of life. My endo thankfully supported my titrate and test approach.

Please get your D levels checked before supplementation as it is fat soluble and too much is bad (check out Vit D Toxicity). That said, some people DO require megadoses (I am one) but my D levels are checked regularly and I titrated up slowly (rather than take 50k IU a week which is too common).

Fucking wild. Part of why we're IN this mess is because Rs have spent the last few DECADES packing the courts. The only reason they haven't nuked the filibuster is that if they do it NOW the Ds won't bring it back. But if they keep this one norm, they can use it to halt everything.

I've had to explain a few times I prefer Democratic Socialism as the construct of government, but the DSA platform IS NOT THAT. It's Socialist with the Dem label to be "palatable". If they'd back away from the "do away with. Capitalism" and gut Senate bit, they'd get somewhere.

Orgs are looking hard at their AI spend and not able to justify the spend which is sky rocketing above budget. Lots are severely limiting which tools and overall access. It's all really coming yo a screeching halt for some of the most useful workflow tools.
