New publication: Highly stable active core #microbiomes in #Greenland #cryoconite holes during the bare ice period, by @atejaarsma.bsky.social and others. #icesheet #meltseason doi.org/10.1093/fems...
Figure 1 in Feord et al. (2026): "Cryoconite hole sampling location and description on the Greenland Ice Sheet. (A) Sampling was undertaken during the 2022 melt season (DP22) in W-Greenland near Ilulissat (Image credit: Shunan Feng). (B) Site map (Drone image credit: Shunan Feng) with five sampled cryoconite holes: sites 1 and 2 in dark / light blue, sites 3 and 4 in orange and pink, and site 5 in light green (image credit: Shunan Feng). (C) Pictures labeled with day of year (D209 to D230) show temporal cryoconite hole evolution (using site 4 as an example), associated weather conditions (green), and the presence or not of a lid during the sampling period (red). All cryoconite hole pictures through the melt season are available in SFig. 1. The white board in each picture can be used for scale (∼30 cm width)."

Hi Bluesky microbiology/limnology/hydrology/field folks! Has anyone used this style of cordless drill peristaltic pump for sample collection or field filtration? The design checks a lot of our boxes (replaceable tubing, decent suction height, compact batteries), but doesn't seem widely available.

So nice to be back in Copenhagen en reconnect with friends at Polar and Alpine Microbiology 2026! I had the pleasure yesterday to present on methane cycling in Arctic lakes as part of the @climet.bsky.social project. #PAM2026

“Tackling the unknowns of Arctic methane.” On Friday the NWO-funded CLIMET consortium met at @niooknaw.bsky.social for its kick-off meeting, bringing together colleagues from NL, the UK, Sweden, Canada and the USA, along with NWO representatives and our external advisor.

1/6 🧊 My last PhD paper is out! We explored what microbes on the Greenland Ice Sheet are actually doing with their biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs), the genetic blueprints for producing natural products.

I'm looking for a post doc position! I want to contribute to research that helps solve the big problems the world faces, and bring experience in environmental microbiology in extreme environments, natural product research, synthetic and molecular biology. Welcome to share!
