You can do both at once. Pause frontier LLM/AI development, pause new AI datacenter construction, ensure existing datacenters can power themselves from entirely renewable sources, and punish AI companies for output that causes harm.

This obviously isn't a demo on a great use for an LLM. It's demonstrating that we've gotten to a point where a statistical model that fundamentally predicting the next word, is now capable of doing real world spatial tasks. It may not be intelligent, but it's pretty good at mimicking intelligence.

I think being the king of pop and quite wealthy probably outweighs racial bias in juries, even back then. That being said, it's possible that he was just pretty weird. There were a lot of conflicting accounts from accusers and many of them say he's innocent today. I'm not certain either way.

This is what makes the internet incredible. You get to see people that live in a completely made-up reality and laugh at them.

Saying "I don't say this to be argumentative" doesn't make it not argumentative. You're implying that I'm in a cult. That's not a good faith way to start any discussion.

I think I said "one of the few people". I never said she pushes for change alone. She is a US representative, not a random person. I can also imagine that Chuck Schumer would say Israel is America's greatest ally. She has cosponsored many bills that have helped and introduced some great bills too.

I don't think AOC is perfect, but she is one of the few people in congress who is actually trying to make healthcare more affordable. I'm sure she would say that this option should be accessible for everyone.

It's not a real vulnerability thankfully. I think the myth originates from Windows giving a malware false positive for certain images, but it could also just be people not being very tech literate and getting infected from other sources without realising.

I think throughout that whole interview, she was trying to avoid looking like she's betraying the left and avoid giving ammunition to the right. I wouldn't say I envy her current position.

They also reported on the wrong vote. That one was for an amendment to HR 8800 yesterday, not the actual passage which happened after the article was published.

Commie Tux @atechnophobian.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
I think whoever or whatever wrote the article confused the vote for the ammendment as the vote for passage. Unfortunately, it has now passed 216-212.

Not since the ICC warrant. Both Trudeau and Carney have said they would comply with the warrant.

The only realistic way to approach this would be to elect enough anti-Israel candidates to congress and ratify the Rome Statute. Mamdani arresting Netanyahu would achieve a short publicity stunt, and then NYPD would release him and Mamdani would be arrested instead.

Commie Tux @atechnophobian.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
So let's say he manages to get NYPD to arrest Netanyahu. Even if he ignores the federal government and the courts, there's no way he'd be able to get Netanyahu through an airport, nevermind actually having the plane leave for The Hague. The mayor of New York just doesn't have this power.

I think these are an unnecessary gimmick so I don't really care if they're banned, but they both have top speeds of 15 km/h. Those are speeds a kid could easily reach on a regular scooter going slightly downhill or on a regular bike along a flat stretch.

I didn't say that. You're the one who said they performed in Israel recently. I don't think they should've performed in Israel in 2017 either. I also said they deserve the criticism they get. I think you're just looking for an argument.

The last time Thom Yorke performed in Israel was 2017. By the way, I don't think it's acceptable to be wishy-washy on genocide and apartheid. He absolutely deserves the criticism he gets. That being said, he's not Sharon Osbourne.

Commie Tux @atechnophobian.bsky.social · 18/04/2026
I don't think Thom Yorke is the worst on this issue, but he has been wishy-washy and both-sidesy (saying Israel is bad, but it's not a genocide and Hamas are bad too). I think they know that Israel is clearly the bad actor here, but they don't want to offend Jonny's wife.

Great cartoon if you're an American who saw one positive headline from the UK and assume that the UK isn't already at (see Palestine Action arrests and anti-immigrant narratives from gov) or is heading in the same direction as the US.

A lot of research for this sort of thing is already being done at public institutions and universities. Fund that more, and tell pharma companies that they can either contribute to the research and sell at a reasonable price, or not contribute and compete with everyone else.

You always have to consider every group before submitting an answer with connections, but I think arithmetic operators would have been a more logical grouping than symbols.

Well I'm not a huge fan of systems that make you reliant and therefore complacent, what I'm talking about are systems that avoid the worst-case scenarios.

There is some safety software that can save lives, like automated emergency braking or collision avoidance (if implemented with care). But the ideal solution is for most people to be able to use public transport to get around efficiently.

Commie Tux @atechnophobian.bsky.social · 07/02/2026
If a vulnerability in a safety system is exploited, it could kill you. Obviously Chinese code isn't the problem here though, there are already plenty of vulnerabilities without the need for an intentional backdoor.

Might be useful to start using cleartext or detached signatures as a way to verify announcements like this in the future. Even if its very unlikely for all these accounts to be compromised, better safe than sorry.

Just another way these guys try to justify the unjustifiable. Not really surprising when they also try to justify the ongoing murders of US citizens and mass kidnappings by ICE.

AI is so awesome. You get to lie about why you're firing people, and get investors to believe you'll increase revenue by doing it. As we all learned in 2008, a market based on value that doesn't actually exist is very stable and won't collapse.

First, explain what makes this unethical because its not clear to me at all, and second, show me which section of campaign finance law would make this illegal in MA.

I'm fully on board with switching to Linux, but it wouldn't kill Microsoft. Azure revenue is 3x Windows, and most Azure servers run Linux. Office products revenue is 2x Windows, and most of that is commercial. They are very resilient to consumer action, like most large corporations.

The point of the phrase is that a lot of people can ignore growing fascism because it doesn't affect them directly, and when they are the targets, its already too late.

How do you recognize that Russia's acts in Ukraine are wrong, but simultaneously defend an actual genocide and advocate for collective punishment? Is it because Palestinians are brown, so they don't deserve human rights?

So the difference in opinion is that the protesters want the Shah back (gone since 1979) and the US to intervene, but the counter protester doesn't want either. Are you questioning why the counter protester doesn't want either or how there is a difference in opinion?

Brief history: The Shah is basically a king. Iran had reforms that allowed for some democracy, but the US and UK overthrew that democracy in 1953 because oil. The Shah gained almost total power with Western backing, until the Islamic revolution in 1979. The new regime is a theocracy.

The protesters are against the current regime in Iran, want US intervention in Iran, and want the Shah back (monarchy). The ones with the truck are against the current regime, the prior monarchy, and US intervention.

If it was only the ICE agent who murdered Renee Good filming the incident, it would've been much easier for the admin to propagandize and the will to resist would not be as strong as it is now. I'm not saying its the only step in resistance, but it is necessary.

Ordinary Germans certainly knew the implications of Nazi policies and propaganda, but very few saw images of the atrocities or even heard about the gas chambers. Because if you weren't a Nazi at the time, seeing the atrocities would force you to take action. Its step 0 in resistance.

Here's my take: It's very sus that he got that tattoo, but knowing average Americans, I can also believe that Platner and everyone who saw his tattoo didn't realise what it was. So we should be critical and look for any other evidence, and then we can make an overall judgement.

Welcome to 2025, where you can sign multi-hundred-billion dollar deals with a company that has never (and will never) make a cent of profit, and your valuation will go to levels never seen before. This is fine.
