They hand out CVE IDs like candies these days, regardless of the real merit of the "issue".

Asuswrt-Merlin 3006.102.9 is now available for supported models. This release migrates to OpenSSL 3.5, and implements a new hardware-accelerated AQM (BCM4912 and BCM4916 models only).

Two years ago, I paid $270 CAD for this 64 GB memory kit. The same kit has now reached $1929 CAD. www.canadacomputers.com/en/desktop-m... We're so screwed.

Depends on your connection. Cake is not compatible with hardware acceleration, so it will limit throughput to around 300 Mbps.

That router uses a different CPU and hardware accelerator (archer instead of runner), which lacks the hardware AQM.

Asuswrt-Merlin 3006.102.9 will include a new AQM implementation that works with hardware acceleration enabled. This uses Broadcom's Traffic Manager, which is available on models with a BCM4912 or BCM4916 CPU.

Stupidest 2FA ever: a banking mobile app sending an SMS validation code to that very same phone you are running it on. And the bank not supporting any other 2FA method.

Asus' build system is already a very complicated mess that I don't dare touching unless absolutely necessary. Adapting it for any kind of caching solution would be a nightmare and waste more time than I would ultimately be saving.

Eric Sauvageau @asuswrt-merlin.net · 20/08/2026
I used ccache back in my Android days. It's a great way to introduce hard-to-spot issues in your generated binaries. Makefile already deals with that on its own, so if it`s a test scenario where I don`t mind recompiling just portions, then I just do it directly - just a 3-4 mins rebuild.

Impossible.

I seriously doubt that any piece of software could reduce a 57 minutes CPU workload to less than 10 minutes, unless you own a Delorian.

All done, it took 57 minutes to compile all 19 at once.

This is how you stress test a dev system: compiling 19 router firmwares in parallel :)

Asuswrt requires Ubuntu <=20.04 to build (older BCM SDK are not compatible with 22.04). I'm going to build a new dev VM under Ubuntu 26.04, and rely on Docker instead for firmware compiling under the older environment. Asus provided me with their docker config, should be fine.

Can someone tell me why, by default, Realtek NICs on Windows will strip the VLAN tag, so if your LAN has IPv6 RA advertised on a separate VLAN, the Windows client end up with two IPv6 subnets, with the VLAN one not working? Sounds broken out-of-the-box to me.

After a few URL switches, the dnsmasq author now decided to put a "roadblock" in front of the git repo specifically for AI scraper bots. The FOSS community is visibly getting tired of the abuse from these AI providers. I have Cloudflare rejecting AI scrapers as well now.

I don't know if @cPanel is to blame for last night's MySQL upgrade that broke my server, but considering how they keep increasing their pricing on a yearly basis, I chose to count them as responsible for this. Thankfully they already published an article on how to revert.

And if the US truly end up banning most new devices next year, expect Wifi 8 adoption rate to be glacial in the US.
100
Eric Sauvageau @asuswrt-merlin.net · 12/04/2026
Technology won't stop advancing because the market adoption is lagging behind, and this is fine. Gives more time for a technology to mature before it becomes both affordable and reliable enough to be adopted by the masses. The number of regions still not opening the 6 GHz band is a hurdle.
110
Eric Sauvageau @asuswrt-merlin.net · 12/04/2026
While they talk about possibly launching a product late this year, I suspect Wifi 8 products won't be more mainstream until somewhere in the second half of 2027, with a focus on very high-end and very expensive models. Which means for most home users, it won't be relevant until 2028.
