WTF is this "Entrepreneurial Mindset" nonsense and why is my college pushing faculty workshops about it
Text only:
Entrepreneurial Mindset: The key to success for undergraduate engineering students

Engineers can no longer depend on just their technical skill set to be successful. They also need an entrepreneurial mindset. An entrepreneurial mindset (EM) encompasses attitudes, habits and behaviors that shape a unique approach to problem-solving, innovation, and value creation.Text only:
For engineering students, EM amplifies the technical skills they learn, equipping them to
* Recognize and identify opportunities.
* Assess and focus their impact.
* Pursue and create value in any context.Text only:
The 3Cs of Entrepreneurial Mindset
EM consists of three key elements: Curiosity, Connections, and Creating Value -- the 3Cs. A thorough understanding of the 3Cs helps engineering students question, adapt, and make positive change in classes, campus, communities, and the world.

That red glow is sunlight, filtering through the Earth’s atmosphere and getting redirected to hit the Moon’s surface. A lovely visual treat created by the gravitational dance of the three celestial bodies. 😍
The Moon in near-total eclipse. The top edge is a bright white crescent, while the lower regions are reddish-purple with craters and maria visible. Taken with a Seestar S50 from Denver, CO.

I love this poem by Sara Teasdale. My choir sang a lovely setting of it a few years back.
The New Moon
by Sara Teasdale

Day, you have bruised and beaten me,
As rain beats down the bright, proud sea,
Beaten my body, bruised my soul,
Left me nothing lovely or whole,

Yet I have wrested a gift from you,
Day that dies in dusky blue:
For suddenly over the factories
I saw a moon in the cloudy seas,

A wisp of beauty all alone
In a world as hard and gray as stone,
Oh who could be bitter and want to die
When a maiden moon wakes up in the sky?

So happy vernal equinox, first day of spring/fall, First Point of Aries (Pisces) Day, and origin of right ascension day! 🤓 Whatever you call this time of year, take a moment to appreciate this cosmic alignment and how it affects us here on Earth. (8/8) ☀️🌎⏳ apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap26032...

Things you might notice around this time of year: ☀️ The Sun is rising due east and setting due west. If you have a N/S street grid, it'll be in your eyes while driving or biking! ☀️ The day length is changing rapidly even aside from Daylight Saving Time. (7/8)

The point on the sky called the vernal equinox is also the zero point for the coordinate on the celestial sphere that corresponds to longitude. This coordinate is called, for obscure historical reasons, "right ascension." (6/8) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_a...

Oddly enough, the vernal equinox is also called the First Point of Aries, even though it's in Pisces. That's because the Earth's spin axis is slowly wobbling, so the celestial coordinate system gradually shifts through the constellations over millennia. (5/8) www.britannica.com/science/prec...

So as we move around the Sun, the Sun appears to travel slowly along the ecliptic. On the vernal equinox, the Sun is located at the point in the sky where the ecliptic and equator cross in the constellation Pisces. It's moving northward, which means more light for the northern hemisphere. (4/8)
Two annual equinoxes, in spring and in autumn, mark intersections of plane of ecliptic (red) with celestial equator (light blue/white); spring equinox (upper right) occurs with sun in front of Pisces the Fishes constellation: Tau’olunga, CC BY SA 3.0 Unported, via Wikimedia Commons @ https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ecliptic_path.jpg

The celestial equator is a circle on the celestial sphere that mimics Earth's equator (in fact it sits right above it). The ecliptic is the path the Sun appears to take around the celestial sphere over the course of a year. The two circles meet at two points on the sky: the equinoxes. (3/8)

It was one of my first perspective-shifting moments as an astronomy student to learn that in addition to being a day, the vernal equinox is a point on the celestial sphere. That's the imaginary "globe" that surrounds the Earth and gives us a coordinate system for the sky. (2/8)

Happy vernal equinox! You may know this as one of 2 dates when the day and night are roughly equal length, or as the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere and fall in the southern. But to astronomers, the vernal equinox has an additional fun significance... 🧪🔭 (1/8)
