Trekking into the ravine (an excuse to play with colored pencils and toned paper) #artsky #traditionalart #coloredpencils #abstractart #landscape
Green birds in the top right corner fly in a bright reddish sky. To the left are yellow trees leaning up and to the left. They fade into the background and almost look like flames. The tree closest to the viewer has a large hole under where the branches split, and the roots seem to be leaking out blood. Sharp rocks colored in pinks, blues, yellows, and green are stamped with gridded patterns before they lead down into a dark ravine. This drawing was made with posca colored pencils on grey toned paper.

Been practicing colored pencil work more often! #artsky #traditionalart #coloredpencils #doodles #sketch
The floating side profile of a smiling blue face looks to the left with a couple of white sparkles glowing gently next to and above it. It is surrounded by a large yellow spark in front of and over where the neck would be, as well as two red and orange ribbons billowing behind it like a hood. Other ribbons and another sparkle are implied to be floating behind the head with dark blue shading. The drawing was made with colored pencils on gray toned paper.

Ex-Catholic #artsky #acrylicgouache #painting #abstractart
This is a square acrylic gouache painting on a yellow-orange backdrop. Intermixed are overlayed fractal patterns that resemble patterns from ornate iron gates in bright whites, greens, and blues. They pop with bold red outlines. There is one large blue, green, and white burst/star emerging from the motifs at the top right corner. To the bottom left is a pink spark that blends in more with the background with the exception of its teal outline. On the top left, there is an abstracted church tower intermixed with the motifs- it is wobbly enough to appear ambiguous, except for the steeple roof and the stained glass windows below.

true story! #sketch #drawing #coloredpencil #artsky #dragon
This is a colored pencil drawing of a red dragon originally referenced from a gate in Central Park, NYC. Its neck stretches across from the right of the grainy toned background and looks ahead with mouth agape. The text below in ink reads “ask me about the embalmed pope that exploded in 1958.”

Phantasmagoria #artsky #painting #mixedmedia #watercolor #acrylicgouache #coloredpencil #ink
A green arch shaded in dark purples, blues, and reds stares into the viewer through narrowed red eyes while it stands in front of a blurry landscape painted in watercolors with hatched scribbles of colored pencil. The reddish form behind the arch on the left looks to be a tree stretching into the ambiguous landscape of pastel yellows, greens, and blues.

Around the top right, bottom right, and bottom left, are abstract forms curled around the painting in shades of purples, blues, and reds. Each are wrapped around to resemble loose structures from fancy iron fences. The bottom right holds a green eye-like jewel.

Background is in watercolor, colored pencil, and foreground is painted in acrylic gouache and dark blue pencil ink. There are also light white highlights in gel pen.

I saw this model by Gaetano Giulio Zumbo in Paris on Saturday. He was a wax modeller who worked with a surgeon in Genoa, replicating his dissections in wax. Only two of his models survive from the end of the 17thC. I’ve posted photos of the one in La Specola in Florence before - this is the other

Embroidered cotton apron. Czech, 19th century. Ref T.282-1987, V & A Museum.
Apron made of glazed indigo-dyed cotton embroidered with multi-coloured cotton. Made from two pieces of cotton joined vertically with a band of embroidery. The apron is gathered into a deep band at the waist and tied with two long woven ribbons. The hem is trimmed with a deep edging of cotton bobbin lace, mainly in white but with red and green. The pattern is composed of bold floral and geometric motifs. There are vertical rows of petals resist-dyed onto the ground fabric.

My landlady’s cat got an update to some fanart that I painted of him a few months ago 😎 (photo she took of his reaction) I will see if I can post the tatting pattern in replies - - - #artsky #watercolor #shuttletatting #tatting #art #craftsky
A large white cat on the right is sniffing a silver picture frame. The frame holds a sketch of him done in ink and light watercolor. A green shuttle tatted doily in the shape of a plant sits directly on top of the sketch, so it looks like he is hiding behind a bush. The frame is held by the person taking the photo.

How does it feel to float? #artsky #sketchbook #painting #art
Painted in acrylic gouache across a sketchbook spread is a self portrait— at the bottom center is a profile shot of me, painted with a messy mullet and sideburns. I am looking straight ahead with a wide, unfocused stare. On the right and left are sketches of my legs in chunky tennis shoes and socks during a stroll around an unknown location. Legs and shoes are partially obscured by clouds. The brush strokes are quick and textured and entirely done in shades of blue.

These little tools are apple scoops. They date from the 1800s and are made of sheep bone. They were common in apple-growing districts. The marrow has been hollowed out to allow the user to scrape off pieces of apple if they had few teeth and couldn’t afford dentures.

The Upper West Side Experience #artsky #art #sketchbook #sketch #ink
Black ink on paper. This is a sketchbook doodle inspired by ornate motifs embellishing buildings in the Upper West Side, Manhattan. On the bottom left, there is a cross hatched lantern that sits beside an abstraction of the end of a swirly metal gate. There is a crescent moon sketched on the top right of the small doodle. The composition is made up of several swooping swirls of crosshatched metal structures.

Judgment (of the outfit someone wore when they died) (this angel is probably a he/they) #sketchbook #sketch #angel #traditionalart #pen
Scribbled in black ink is a smug angel, whose right hand is raised to let a butterfly rest on his fingers. His hair is long and nearly blends in with the olive leaves in his hair. He wears a very impractical robe, one breast out and part of his stomach visible. His wings and robes seem to melt into abstract shapes in this otherwise simplistic sketch.

He looks down with a small smirk

Weaving update: learning tablet weaving!!! 🧶 I lost track of my laurel leaves WIP and still need to untangle part of my weft 😭 I hope to make this into a headband Pattern for the WIP is from here: ladyelewys.carpevinumpdx.com/2023/09/06/e... #weaving #wip #tabletweaving
Photo of a sample band of white and green twisting together to make an alternating leaf pattern. The loom sits on top of a checkered desk, an extra weaving card, and various pieces of stationery. There is a moomin coaster as well.Finished sample of my first tablet weaving pattern: my left hand holds a blue and gold alternating band that is rolled up into a little circle. At full length it’s over five feet long. The blurred tip of my loom sits in the bottom right corner of the background.

Hunting for sport #artsky #sketchbook #sketch #drawing #doodle
Sketch on paper. A horned demon(?), dressed in a tattered coat and sandals, looks right at the viewer as they toss a small ball of yarn (on the viewer’s left) as if they’re about to chuck it over. Their hand to the viewer’s right is partially open with a loose strand of yarn wrapped around their ring and pinky fingers. The rest of the strand loosely drops below. Drawn with brush pens with purple for the outline and pink as the filler.

What’s happening in this neck of the woods? #art #artsky #painting #acrylicgouache
Triangular painting taken over a backdrop of wood. The painting depicts a cyan horned creature poking their head through what could be a purple bush or abstracted rubble. Their eyes are bright red with vertical slits for pupils. The side of their face is shaded with a bright reddish pink, similar to the bright reddish pink background so that there’s a glowing contrast.

WIP on low blood sugar #sketch #sketchbook #art #artsky #ink #traditionalart #weaving
Sketchbook illustration of an anthropomorphic buck dressed in a thick shawl as his hands rise from below and quiver. He holds a long tapestry needle between his teeth. His asymmetrical antlers are adorned: on the viewer’s left, a boat shuttle used in weaving swings toward your direction off of thread. On the right, there are unfinished tapestry weavings strewn up and down parts of the antler. He stares forward with exhaustion. Colors used: maroon ink for the outline and darker shading, softer reds, oranges, yellows, and a touch of warm green. The backdrop is colored in with bright yellow brush pen. Sketched with the thought of trying to finish a craft while low on fuel. You tell yourself it’ll just be five more minutes.

Made a small weaving pattern sample for myself with yarn from my LYS’s scrap bin c: Done on my little Funem frame loom 🧶 #weaving #craftsky
Photo of a small mug coaster-sized weaving sample previously woven on a frame loom. The warmer and cooler green are woven together in various patterns from solid horizontal stripes with small dashes of the other yarn, alternating vertical stripes, small attempts at twill weaving, and two rows of soumak (which look like a cute little braid). The lighter green yarn is a little sparkly. I think these are synthetic blends, but I am just enjoying the pretty scrap box green yarns for playing around.

The sample is draped over a grey blanket and to the left is a black cat peeking toward the camera from the background

Sketchbook drawing featuring a pink rose in the middle of a stained glass window inspired design. Originally freehanded in pink pen and colored in with a lighter pink brush pen.

It is surrounded by abstracted sketches of stained glass in green and yellow on the left, and the text “I CAN’T STAND IT” on the right.
It’s attempting to make something beautiful in exhausting times.
