The Provincial MTSA zoning requirement would change that radically but the City has purposefully dragged its feet and missed its deadline

Upzoning is not a transfer of wealth, its handing back wealth that was taken for what was supposed to be public benefit, when all it did was substantially prejudice public interest.

Asator @astrapaios.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
The reason why zoning is not considered an unconstitutional taking is because it is supposed to have "substantial relation to the public health, safety, morals, or general welfare" - which presupposes that the upzoned state is detrimental to those

Effectively the logic of the coalition powers vis a vis Napoleon - we aren't going to get our own, so we will build the modern military staff system to recreate a Napoleon in aggregate

I genuinely didnt say a single thing about the actual limits of resource allocation and dont even believe thats a real constraint so I dont know why you are positing this
000
Asator @astrapaios.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
I would prefer it if both were caught, and its pretty trivial in resource terms to do both, but what i am arguing is that if you somehow only caught black speeders, that would be an unalloyed good for black communities, and a detriment to white communities, not the other way around
000
Asator @astrapaios.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
You contrived completely insane irrelevant inapplicable scenarios in service of perpetuating traffic violence in minority neighborhood so yeah fuck off and dont drop into any more convos about speed cameras

...So your 'being surrounded by murder investigators' also doesn't make sense as an analogy
100
Asator @astrapaios.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
The impact is exclusively on individuals who are committing an offense at the expense of the public. Parking rules can be vexing when too strict because you need to park. You never need to speed. And cameras aren't in any way obtrusive to the regular course of ones life.
200
Asator @astrapaios.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
If speed cameras were ubiquitous in black neighborhoods and absent entirely in white neighborhoods - thats a good thing for the former and a bad thing for the latter!
100
Asator @astrapaios.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
You're working backwards from the assumption that the action is bad despite trying to agree with the premise that they are good. That doesn't make sense. If cameras are good, then their disproportionate presence in a neighborhood is a disproportionate benefit.

Asator @astrapaios.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
You're perpetuating an inequality behind the stalking horse of equity
040
Asator @astrapaios.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
Speed cameras do not 'over-police' even if they are ubiquitous to a neighborhood. They police with exact proportion to the incidence of violation. What you're suggesting is a net detriment to black neighborhoods, where traffic violence is already disproportionately high.

And, in their mind, they are strangling 'real' businesses who cant outbid black market money. Its kind of like a commercial version of 'all the housing is vacant and overpriced because its owned by foreign investors'

Asator @astrapaios.bsky.social · 11/08/2026
Its received wisdom that dodgy highstreet shops like Burnham is referring to here that these stores are basically fronts for organized crime and money laundering, so they dont believe they actually rely on their business to pay the rent, which is probably largely not true but try convincing brits
280
Asator @astrapaios.bsky.social · 10/08/2026
I also think using primary rental market data is kind of a problem considering the proportion of rentals that are provided through the secondary market, which is a whole other thing unto itself but still. And generally using national numbers for housing really flattens the image.

Going by Stoker's version at least, Dracula needs Renfield to break into the asylum to attack Mina, I think theres some flexibility. Seward's quarters aren't accessible to Renfield but the asylum as a whole is. Much to consider!

If my building is rezoned as exclusively residential but I continue to illegally operate a business out of the ground floor, does a Vampire consider it commercial or residential? Does it side with practice or local by-laws?

Asator @astrapaios.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
if I own a 3 story mixed use building and operate a business out of the ground floor, would the vampire be able to access the upper floors from there unimpeded? Is a door at the top of a staircase a sufficient barrier? Should we consider the zoning and building code implications of vampires

Theres no reason why, if you had the underlying datasets, you wouldnt be able to cross reference PDOM with bdr counts, given the way is collected, but I cant say for certain, as I am cheap
010
Asator @astrapaios.bsky.social · 07/08/2026
from my experience real-estate orgs have a fair bit of data but if its not publicly available they're pretty tight fisted about it unless you pay for it. You'd definitely find PDOM/LDOM data from TRREB if you want to look at the Toronto area
