Astra (She/Her) @astranought.bsky.social · 03/08/2026There's a lot more to be said of what is present in the story of the Odyssey and Christopher Nolan's artful adaptation. Your climate read is well worth further exploration. 010
Astra (She/Her) @astranought.bsky.social · 03/08/2026To my eye, the film's main focuses are two threads -- 1) societal decline & transgression and 2) crisis & learning to let go of the control you don't really have (surrender of self, surrender to the gods, surrender to consequences). 110
Astra (She/Her) @astranought.bsky.social · 03/08/2026There's certainly a case to be made that the film subtly communicates climate driven collapse via the hardships inflicted by the gods upon Odysseus and his crew. However, I don't know if I'd say any such messaging was purposefully included in the already thematically crowded story and film. 210
Astra (She/Her) @astranought.bsky.social · 03/08/2026A climate driven collapse is definitely a compelling read of the narrative. In the film, the gods are experienced by most phenomenally -- especially through climate. Odysseus: Why can't gods speak in ways we understand? Athena: Who doesn't understand thunder? Fire? A child's smile? A good harvest? 120

Astra (She/Her) @astranought.bsky.social · 27/06/2026Furthermore, we can do far better than to adopt the same kinds of purity architctures and reactive politics as those held by the real threats to our community. 000
Astra (She/Her) @astranought.bsky.social · 27/06/2026If the movement is so precarious that it can't afford to integrate internal criticism, then the movement is doomed to fail. These kinds of internal dialogs should invite discourse that forges a stronger movement. 100
Astra (She/Her) @astranought.bsky.social · 27/06/2026Seriously unsettling to see this exchange pop into my feed but even more so to check the account's comments page and see a track record of this kind of rabid, great purge-esque discourse directed at the people they profess to fight for. 100
Astra (She/Her) @astranought.bsky.social · 26/06/2026Also, IDK what the hell my phone camera was on with that bokeh. 000
Astra (She/Her) @astranought.bsky.social · 26/06/2026Ended up spending a few hours sitting outside shaping some scrap wood from another project into a "worry rock". IDK it was a perfect day to futz about outside and now I know I can burnish wood with whatever random smooth stones I can find. 100
Astra (She/Her) @astranought.bsky.social · 24/06/2026So apparently Puff Daddy did a remix of Roxanne (Sting & the Police) and... man I am so confused why this exists and even more so why I own the CD... 100
Astra (She/Her) @astranought.bsky.social · 18/06/2026I take fish oil every night because my neurodivergent brain needs every edge it can get. Otherwise, tea (green tea with ginseng every morning, oolong when I can afford the good stuff) and tisanes (lemonbalm, catnip, rooibos) have been the backbone of my burnout/depression recovery (plus meds). 030
Astra (She/Her) @astranought.bsky.social · 18/06/2026My sister just told me about iNaturalist and I have to say, after just 10 minutes of digging into it, I'm obsessed. Excuse me while I add another special interest to my collection 🏃♀️💨 020
