Every day something stupider and stupider gets announced. Is this just how life is? How depressing.

While no company is infallible, Valve is pretty damn good. (This is specifically aimed at the fact games with ads are locked out of steam)

I have noticed a pattern of people from art backgrounds automatically jump into Unreal for their work, rather than Godot or Unity. Please stop, it’s making everything look so same-y.

I wonder how viable it would be for a studio to have internal nicknames instead of real names…

Oh boy, someone tried to pressure me into signing something that could, in perpetuity, own any IP I generate because it’s wording was so vague. Ain’t happenin’ I don’t care if you think it’s a great opportunity. I see it as walking into a bear trap.

Nice! Also don’t worry you can get a usb connected CD/DVD reader for like 20 quid. (Or a blue ray one for about 30).

There's physical media of it?! I gotta get a copy...

I've re-stumbled across the 1999 mini series 'Walking with dinosaurs' on the BBC iplayer and their behind their scenes videos on yt. It's lovely to see such passionate people trying to tell a story with what mediums and tech they had available at the time; youtu.be/n6zGgQgxijo

Yeah nah you defo don’t need that much, also there’s water in food to consider, etc.

If you’re not running around and sweating it out, you probably only need like 1.2L tbh

Once again, if people in these companies are concerned that Al could kill humanity, shouldn’t we just…shut them down? I have no idea how valid the concerns are, but it seems the safer bet right?

You can point that problem at the BSky devs who love to vibe code the app 💀

It is a shame but it's looking more and more likely that I'm gonna have to pivot my career to something boring and corporate, find something I can do mindlessly. Then pray I have enough mental energy when I get home to do personal game dev stuff...

Astral Monarch [Coms: CLOSED] @astralmonarch.bsky.social · 26/08/2026

Honestly considering becoming a solo dev at this rate. Absolutely sick of not being listened to constantly, accused of not doing something intentionally, and people turning around and taking the credit for what I’ve done.

Oh for sure, I'll bare you in mind! I just...need to do the important part of the initial character references... [head desk]

Sorry I can’t do DMs on bsky, I refuse to do the dumb age verification thing the UK forces on sites. If you have discord feel free to DM me there; theastralmonarch

Oh for sure, I’ve had the character concepts for a while, just need to give them a glow up to be on stream again or as a hordes of art for fun.

Ug I really need to finish my character references so I can finally commission people; motivation is scarce these days 💀

In response to Sony’s latest awful business practices; if people don’t own their games, then piracy isn’t stealing.

Finished up watching Spider Noir, I really enjoyed it, although I do acknowledge my craving for a detective series played a small part…and the fact Nic Cage is in it.

Having sniffed around for coding project ideas for portfolio pieces, the wildest suggestion was just to recreate Discord, apparently it’s only an intermediate level project. Sure buddy.

So many cool artists floating around… really makes me wish I finished my character references… and wish I had the time to do fun stuff…

For the love of all that's holy, stop buying and using stuff that collects your biometric data like smart watches!

Once again I’m gonna be the cynic, I bet the reason LinkedIn has included a ‘looks like Al slop’ button is purely for data collection for them.

Astral Monarch [Coms: CLOSED] @astralmonarch.bsky.social · 14/08/2026

Honestly, I will be more interested in Unreal as soon as they do away with blueprints. Also I would focus on the visuals, so I know how to un-Fortnite any game I make in it.

It is fascinating how some guys get so dug into making 'men only' hobby spaces and rigidly gatekeep it from women. Where as most 'women' hobby spaces would 100% love guys to join them, truly it's a one way gender isolation game.

Oh ok Cara is very anti AI, to the point it has a Glazing tool for your uploads so no scraper can use it. Neat.

Most likely for the big names, but there are pockets or resistance. It’s just so mentally taxing to have to be so alert online, a lot of people are just jumping off social sites all together.
