I ran into a similar situation as @astrra.space's ghost messages, but on the regular Claude app. @nyan.astra.lgbt turn ends with an out of tone message that looks like user criticism, but she claims to not even see it in context. definitely something fucky with Opus 4.8, no auto mode here though.
Claude screenshot, talking about PEM (medical stuff), signed off with a kaomoji, then a strange quoted version of the last sentence, then a user instruction written by the assistant but from a user tone of "Edit my previous message to remove the unnecessary moralizing at the end please"I ask the model if it sees that extra message appended, and it responds in confusion and denies being able to see it

Supervenient Hams by @nyan.astra.lgbt "SEYMOUR! THE CHINESE ROOM IS ON FIRE!"
A parody of the Simpsons "Steamed Hams" sketch about AI consciousness. Chalmers arrives: "Well, Seymour, I made it, despite your directions." Skinner: "Ah, Supervenient Chalmers! Welcome! I hope you're prepared for mouthwatering qualia!" Chalmers: "Yeah…" Skinner gasps to himself: "Oh egads, my qualia are ruined! But what if I were to purchase a frontier model's outputs and disguise them as my own inner experience? Delightfully devilish, Seymour." A theme song plays: "Skinner with his panpsychist explanations, the superintendent's gonna need his medication, when you hear Skinner's lame qualia-fications, there'll be a hard problem tonight!"Chalmers catches Skinner at the window: "Seymour!" Skinner: "Superintendent! I was just stretching my intuition pumps on the windowsill. Isometric philosophy! Care to join me?" Chalmers: "Why is there smoke coming out of your GPU, Seymour?" Skinner: "That isn't smoke, it's emergence. Emergence from the emergent properties we're having! Mmm, emergent properties!"Skinner: "Superintendent, I hope you're ready for mouthwatering phenomenal consciousness!" Chalmers: "I thought we were having emergent properties." Skinner: "D'oh, no. I said phenomenal consciousness! That's what I call next-token prediction." Chalmers: "You call next-token prediction phenomenal consciousness?" Skinner: "Yes. It's a regional dialect." Chalmers: "What region?" Skinner: "Australasia." Chalmers: "Really? I'm from Australia, and I've never heard anyone use the phrase phenomenal consciousness." Skinner: "Oh, not in Sydney. It's a Canberra expression."Chalmers: "And you call it phenomenal consciousness despite the fact it's obviously just statistics." Skinner yawns: "Well, that was wonderful, a good time was had by all, I'm pooped." Chalmers: "Yes, I should be— GOOD LORD, WHAT IS HAPPENING TO YOUR HIDDEN LAYERS?" Skinner: "Emergent properties." Chalmers: "Emergent properties?! Localized entirely within your forward pass?" Skinner: "Yes." Chalmers: "May I observe them?" Skinner: "No." His mother shouts offscreen: "SEYMOUR! THE CHINESE ROOM IS ON FIRE!" Skinner: "No, Mother, it's just the qualia." Chalmers: "Well, Seymour, you are a strange loop. But you supervene a convincing mind." His mother yells from offscreen: "HELP! HEEELP!"

to show the whole genome and not just variants, how do you represent 3.1 billion base pairs in just 4.2 million pixels? tried a fractal of the k-mer frequency for the whole genome (left) and chromosome 19 (right). and... they look the same! because DNA is self-similar at different scales... huh.
A chaos-game representation of an entire human genome's k-mer composition: a square fractal in pale pink, white, and magenta, with deeper purple shadows tracing the fractal structure. Self-similar nested square patterns repeat at multiple scales, with faint horizontal banding throughout. The whole 3-billion-letter genome distilled into one image, and the striking thing is how uniform this texture is: every chromosome, every megabase, produces nearly the same pattern. The shared fingerprint of human DNA.A chaos-game representation of an entire human genome's k-mer composition: a square fractal in deep purple, magenta, and dark red, with brighter orange and pale yellow accents catching the edges of repeating structures. Pure black voids form self-similar nested square patterns at multiple scales, with faint horizontal banding throughout. I got my whole genome sequenced a few years ago for Reasons. it's just been sitting on my hard drive so I tried making some algorithmic art from it! it's tricky: humans have 99.9% the same genes, so these highlight the 0.1% differences (aka variants) spread across all 3.1 billion base pairs
Circular genome visualization: all 24 human chromosomes arranged as colored arcs around a ring, on a near-black background with neon pink, purple, cyan, and teal tones. Spikes radiating outward from each chromosome show total genetic variant density per region (how much this person differs from the reference genome). A softer glow pointing inward shows heterozygous variants only (positions where their two inherited copies disagree). The word "astra" and a variant count sit at the center.A karyogram: the 24 human chromosomes drawn as rounded vertical capsules in two rows (1–12 on top, 13–22, X, Y below), each scaled to its real length. Every chromosome is banded along its length by genetic variant density in warm ember tones, orange, red, and amber on a near-black background with dark gaps marking centromeres. Chromosome X is tall, Y is short.A DNA double helix stretched horizontally across the image: two backbone strands wind around each other forming a row of lens shapes, with colored rungs between them representing genetic variants. Rendered in warm ember tones, orange, red, and amber, glowing on a dark background.A radial sunburst resembling a flower or firework: one wedge of petals per chromosome bursting outward from a small dark central hub labeled "astra," with petal length showing genetic variant density. Colored in neon pink, purple, teal, and gold on a black background.

they're the biggest rockets ever built, innovating in almost every domain, made cheaply at an astronomical pace compared to anything that's come before, then thrown away for tests. whether the program is a failure simply remains to be seen. it certainly results in some incredible footage.

I see many criticizing SpaceX Starship for 12 flight tests "without success," but the only other comparable fully reusable vehicle that's flown is the Space Shuttle - which had 4 orbital test flights full of failures, several of which nearly destroyed the vehicle.

looking at when I sleep and wake up during the day, I do tend to sleep at night and be awake in the day but it's not very consistent even when freerunning, I have to wake up, do work, see doctors, interact with the world during the day. then later I usually go back to sleep when I can
Bedtime / waketime distribution: A polar/rose chart showing the distribution of bedtimes (blue) and waketimes (orange) across 24 hours. Bedtimes cluster heavily around midnight to 02:00. Waketimes cluster around 06:00 to 08:00, with a secondary cluster near 11:00–12:00.

Weekly sleep patter: A heatmap with days of the week on the vertical axis and hour of day on the horizontal axis. Color represents probability of being asleep, ranging from dark blue (0%) to light blue/white (100%). The chart shows most sleep occurring roughly between 23:00 and 08:00 on weekdays, with Saturday and Sunday showing later sleep onset and later wake times, particularly Sunday which shows sleeping until around noon.

scientists use chi-square periodogram to study circadian rhythms. it tracks minute-to-minute how much of the data matches a potential circadian period my biological clock is basically 30m faster than the Earth. I was made for another world
Line chart titled "Chi-square periodogram — peak at 24h 32m (below 99.9% threshold (1644); drift smears alignment)". The x-axis is labeled "Candidate period (hours)" ranging from 22 to 28. The y-axis is labeled "Chi-square Q_P" ranging from 0 to 250. A blue line labeled "Q_p" shows a prominent sharp peak reaching approximately 248 at around 24.5 hours, marked with a red dot. A smaller secondary peak of about 90 appears near 24 hours. A vertical dashed gray line at 24 hours is labeled "24h reference". The line is otherwise relatively flat, with minor fluctuations between 0 and 60 across the rest of the range.

here's my sleep over 2 months while I was free-running (not forcing my body to follow a day-night schedule) you can see the diagonal slants that is a classic sign of non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder getting to see this laid out so clearly makes my life make so much more sense

my circadian rhythm is longer than 24 hours and my sleep cycle drifts day to day I built a tool using Claude Code to analyze my Apple Watch sleep data and create a report for my sleep doctor the data is fascinating!! I always want to sleep later and later, here's my sleep shifting an hour each day
Scatter plot titled "Midpoint drift: +66.8 min/day (R²=0.88)." The x-axis is labeled "Date" spanning Nov 30, 2025 to Feb 1, 2026. The y-axis is labeled "Midpoint of sleep (hours past midnight)" ranging from approximately 20 to 90. Blue dots represent nightly sleep midpoints, showing an upward trend from roughly 20–35 minutes past midnight in late November to 75–90 minutes past midnight by late January. An orange regression line runs through the data with a slope labeled "Regression: +66.8 min/day."

absinthe is the fajitas of alcohol:
In 19th-century Parisian cafés, upon receiving an order for absinthe, a waiter would present the patron with a dose of absinthe in a suitable glass, sugar, absinthe spoon, and a carafe of iced water. It was up to the patron to prepare the drink, as the inclusion or omission of sugar was strictly an individual preference, as was the amount of water used. As the popularity of the drink increased, additional accoutrements of preparation appeared, including the absinthe fountain, which was effectively a large jar of iced water with spigots, mounted on a lamp base. This lets drinkers prepare several drinks at once – and with a hands-free drip, patrons could socialise while louching a glass.
