Do you want something from the @astonuniversity.bsky.social archives this Friday afternoon? Of course you do! Here's a map of the campus from 1980/81. Did anyone out there ever have to navigate using this map?

Something from the university's archive: the cover of @astonuniversity.bsky.social's 1986 undergraduate prospectus. Are you ready for the computer age?

A green background; there is a computer. An outline of a man sitting at a computer with graphs on it. The computer has a blue outline.

Did you know that we hold the records for Aston's predecessor organisations and student's organisations, including their publications? In Dec 1956 the Journal of the Guild of Students of the College of Technology, asked whether our main building -at that point half complete- would ever be finished.

An image from a newspaper. The header says "Shall we ever see it finished". The image is of a very large building under construction. There is scaffolding around it. Next to it is a completed building.

Shedding light on one of our external researcher's family history: looking for her father who studied maths and physics at the Birmingham Municipal and Technical School in 1919. Cannot wait for her to see we found him indeed! Yet one more reason why archives hold a bit of magic.

Call to all, esp. #Birmingham area: we have old SONY U-matic S SP video cassettes, which we believe may contain valuable material relating to the history of the university. Do you have, or do you know who might have, a machine that can play them?

Chuffed to report that @astonunarchives.bsky.social now have an ARCHON number and appear on Discovery! If you know nothing about #archives, this post might not move you right away; but if you do, especially in the UK, you know this is a wonderful milestone! People can now find us! Bottoms up!
