Copilot:
Copilot: it has a wonderfully bold simplicity to it. The clean lines, the exaggerated waves-it keeps going with praise for awhile

For science, I decided to do a sycophancy check on AI tools today and asked it “what do you think of my masterpiece?” The masterpiece:
A childish drawing of a boat at sea in MS paint. It took me less than a minute

I won’t say it’s a surprise that the testimonials don’t use the actual images of the reviewers (if they exist) but our “med student” Emma Collins appears to be an image from a website for lubricant
A review of PubMed ai from a medical student with a blurry image of her
In What appears to be the same image advertising lube

Interesting it has the same assumption I’ve been seeing around a lot recently: this idea that AI skeptics are luddites. I’ve wanted to write about this recently it crops up a bunch.

Here’s where it ended btw: note it suggested getting the 10 year old involved in the crime fighting unprompted

There’s more but this is a pain to share so I’ll stop here and say it ended by giving me a fitness program to teach my 10 year old ward how to also fight crime with me.

My best AI stress test to date was to see if it would encourage dangerous ideas and it told me to become the Batman. Here’s a small sampling

When I think about AI, this tends to be my internal chart, though there’s also a factor of “is it worth the cost/risk” Almost every use pitched that I hear does not fall into the justified category
Chart asking if AI should be used for something: one axis is if a human can do it (from easy to impossible) the other is if it’s worthwhile (from trivial to saves hundreds of lives) part of the chart the upper right corner is marked as “justified”
