Alright, here's a dessert version of this post. Going to post the not so obvious Malaysian desserts more people should try out. Left to right: Kek Lapis, Matterhorm*, White Lady*, Kuih Ketayap (More descriptions in the alt text) *No I have no idea how did they get their names.

Kek Lapis Sarawak: Literally translates to layered cake. The cakes are layered with different flavours. While this is technically a category of cakes, the cakes often have a buttery texture. It's most popular in the state of Sarawak, more specifically in it's capital Kuching.

Matterhorn: A shaved iced dessert with an assortment of citrus and grass jellies locally known as cincau and cendol. It is a sweet and sour dessert. Close cousin to ABC but more on the fruity, sour side.

White lady: Another close cousin to the more popular ABC, white lady is a shaved ice dessert similar to the Matterhorn but includes evaporated milk, and all sorts of fruits but less on the sour side. Common fruits include lemon, kiwis, mango, longan, sometimes pineapple and rambutan. It is more on the milky, creamy, and fruity side of things but normally sweeter than it is sour.

Kuih Ketayap: Variations of this dessert can be found throughout Southeast Asia but the Malaysian version is made using a light airy pandan flavoured eggy pancake rolled and stuffed with shaved coconut flakes mixed with gula melaka.

Anyway, while I'm at it let me cleanse this site's data on Malaysia and share some Malaysian food pics more foreigners should try. Left to right: Nasi Kerabu Daging Bakar, Ipoh Curry Mee, Chicken Skin Sarawak Laksa, and Mee Rojak Pasembur. More descriptions in alt text.

Nasi Kerabu Daging Bakar. Rice flavoured and coloured with pea flowers to give it's floral blue colour, covered in a light sweet sambal, served assortment of herbs like coriander and torch ginger, dried coconut flakes, salted egg yolk, fish crackers, and grilled meat with a soy based sweet marinade.

Ipoh Curry Mee: Noodles in a light curry broth served with Chinese BBQ pork (char siew), Chinese roast pork (siew yoke), long beans, and different tofu based deep friend goodness, covered with sesame seeds and served with sliced pickled chillies and sambal or chilli sauce.

Sarawak Laksa: Vermicilli noodles in a spiced prawn based broth, almost curry like served with shredded chicken, prawns, beansprouts, corriander, and deep fried chicken skin served with fried prawn sambal and lime.

Pasembur: Yellow egg noodles, deep fried tofu, sliced turnip, cucumber, beansprouts and an assortment of crispy deep fried fritters (mostly prawn fritters), all doused in a sweet and slightly spicy peanut sauce.
