We are so thankful that State Rep (and future State Sen) @ruwaromman.bsky.social spoke at our "Heat Wave ATL" press conference today. ICE's "Silent Surge" isn't making headlines, but is still kidnapping our neighbors, denying them due process, and subjecting them to inhumane detention conditions.

Here in Georgia, some of our neighbors have been imprisoned or deported because of Home Depot's cooperation with ICE and Flock. As part of the National Week of Action Against ALPRs, @indivisibleatl.bsky.social teamed up with other local groups to stage a silent protest at the DeKalb Home Depot.

The Atlanta ICE victims vigil was a very moving event. I counted a bit over 100 people there, along with three news crews. We started with speakers and as the sun went down transitioned into a candlelit vigil where the crowd echoed the known names of victims of ICE. Some photos:

Here's my first pass. Needs more design work to make it interesting and scannable. And needs a final one with the call to action, for which I need suggestions on what concrete steps folks against this think will help.

Atlanta, it's time to Stop Taking APS's Dollars. How the mayor's budget harms students and what you can do.

A "TAD" is a special tax district.
It diverts your tax dollars to pay for "development". Which might be a good deal, if it worked.

But Atlanta's current TADs have turned into a slush fund for developers and politicians, with little accountability for how the money is spent.

And every dollar spent on a TAD is a dollar of taxes you've paid that isn't going to the normal city budget, including schools.

Extending TADs will steal another $3.6 billion dollars from Atlanta Public Schools!

But simply canceling the TADs on their original expiration dates means all that money would go to APS.

And it would help pay for some of APS most important goals:

👪 Universal Pre-K for 3 & 4 year olds
🚇 Free MARTA for APS students
🧑‍🏫 Raising teacher salaries to hire &
retain the best teachers.

First nitpick: on both sides of Krog Tunnel, there are lots of sidewalks in several directions. You have to really look to find which is the Beltline and signage is a ways away. It’s as if you are getting off the Beltline, sharing infra with cars, and getting back on.

While everyone else is discussing "vibecession", I'd like to introduce my theory: The Three Stooges Economy. The administration is doing so many stupid inflationary things and so many stupid deflationary things that they are all competing to see which one will break out first.
