I was proud to stand alongside child marriage survivors Sara Tasneem, Christina Sutton, and Courtney Stodden; CCSWG Executive Director Darcy Totten; and Assemblymember Petrie-Norris as Governor Newsom signed AB 1267 into law.

They told us what it means to be a child in a marriage you didn’t freely choose, about coercion and abuse hidden behind the appearance of consent, and how difficult it can be as a minor to ask for help, find an attorney, leave home, or escape the very adults who are supposed to protect them.

Survivors have always been the heart of the effort to ban child marriage. This win belongs to them.

AB 1267 has just been signed by the Governor, officially setting a minimum age of 18 for marriage in California with no exceptions.

We got some incredible budget wins for #AD28 and sent 14 bills to the Governor, thanks to my Capitol team's dedication. Serving as your Assemblymember is my profound honor, and I appreciate all who contacted me with their opinions— every call, email, and letter builds a stronger democracy.

The 2026 legislative session has concluded. The last 2 weeks have been filled with very long days of briefings, debates, and voting. We got through it with the help of legislative spirit week, birthday cake, and camaraderie.

This milestone belongs to the survivors who spent years telling their stories and pushing lawmakers to act, so no other child has to face what they did. Their courage got us here.

AB 1267 has passed the Assembly and is headed to the Governor’s desk to be signed into law. If signed, California will finally set 18 as the minimum age to marry, ending a practice that has affected thousands of kids, most of them girls married to adult men.

After six years, he still cannot accept that he lost the 2020 election. In his denial, he’s attempting to tear down our democracy to live more comfortably in his lie.

Every American has a fundamental right to vote. Mail-in voting has proven to be a secure way to ensure all eligible voters have ample opportunity to make their voices heard. I’m proud of our election officials for taking the necessary time to ensure all eligible votes are counted.

His pursuits have never held up in court, so now he’s trying to pressure Republicans in Congress with unsubstantiated evidence to get them to do what they know would hurt our democracy — undermine voters through his Save America Act.

Trump has been making baseless accusations about our state’s election integrity for years, and this is one of many efforts to make it stick before the midterms.

That’s exactly why I authored AB 969 in 2023, to stop Shasta County’s plan to replace proven voting systems with hand-counting. More costly, more time-consuming, and less accurate.

Grateful to AG Rob Bonta and Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber for standing up for California voters. Today, they filed suit to overturn Shasta County’s Measure B, which conflicts with state law and threatens to disenfranchise voters.

Heads up if you’re driving SR-17 tomorrow! Caltrans will close the #2 northbound lane from the Main Street overcrossing to the Highway 9 off-ramp in Los Gatos from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Plan ahead and allow extra time for your commute. All work is weather dependent.

Voter guides should inform voters, not platform hate. I’m proud to introduce AB 1853 with Assemblymember Marc Berman to implement enforceable standards that keep hate speech out of our official voter guides.

Just hours before rising in solidarity against hate, the Islamic Center of San Diego was the victim of a possible hate crime carried out by two teenage shooters. Hate is not welcome in our communities, and it pains me that bias & misunderstanding continue to inspire acts of violence against others.
