There are way too many people who read sci-fi dystopia and think “oh that tech introduced in order to control the masses is really cool” like this is rapid Fahrenheit 451 territory

I always thought that philanthropy for barons was essentially panem et circenses. I also wouldn’t be surprised if dem leadership couldn’t fathom that these barons no longer think people are necessary for policy.

Yes this does help to know you’re using context collapse outside its sociological definition and was also saying I’m wrong to use it within its sociological definition. Immensely illuminating.

The recruiter was giving best practices which is their job. They never said you wouldn’t or couldn’t get hired with a drink in your hand. The context youre responding to now is saying that. But in general why would a recruiter push back on “you’re looking for a stuffy job, look stuffy”?

What? You continuing to disagree with more context does not change the fact that there was more context to this that seemingly no longer exists and you didn’t know it. This started on another platform in a completely different medium; it’s the definition of context collapse.

This context collapsed so quickly, lol, because yeah I do think many many “buttoned up” Fortune 500 companies would feel that’s too casual, but now that this advice originally came from a recruiter for such companies is probably lost to time.

Creatures on 6 wheels which might as well be legs to the alien. So it’s about being right about an idea and utterly unable to communicate it for any real action because you don’t know enough

ashphoenixwing.bsky.social @ashphoenixwing.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
For the record I don’t think it would take a lot of context? There’s a virus, aliens are debating human culpability. An alien who doesn’t understand legs knows it’s six “legged” creatures who helped the virus and but doesn’t know enough about humans to rule them out and point to the real culprit:

I did a Google search looked at one site, and got a general meaning “a character in a sci-fi book has a good observation but wrong application” but that it’s meant to be used negatively in meme form, and it used to describe the confidently ignorant behavior or usernet authors

Oh interesting. Kayla actually reminds me of cartoon characters from my childhood which is decidedly millennial. I wonder if the live action nature of it makes it feel like gem alpha humor

Even if materiality wasn’t significant, when did people revert to defining love as action-less/just good vibes. I thought there was some agreement love required some demonstration.

Grades were very useful for me to tell the degree of racism I would face in the class, but maybe that’s not a concern for others. They were also useful for learning the thing I think college is also actually useful for: learning how social power works.

Ooh I would actually hate this but I feel I am coming from a different side of the culture war. Like this is only pedagogically useful if the teachers themselves are…self-aware of their own bias, and while a lot are…some are not. It would make more sense to just not have grades imo.

When I used to work at BN cafe they used to have a degree I had to heat the milk for safety, so I knew the baristas watched the degrees, and I would ask for a certain degree to get what heat I wanted.

This has the fatal error of assuming the average person who encounters this post on social media (so people into fitness) who don’t know what it means in this context will understand they don’t know.

This article made me think how much the microculture of fandom shaped how I think about these things. I would never have thought of COVID as the impetus of this behavior bc it has been going on in fandoms since late aughts. I would actually separate disagnosis from pathologizing for that reason

I cannot say I’m surprised you don’t wish to demonstrate understanding on any topic.

Where are you seeing demand?
000
ashphoenixwing.bsky.social @ashphoenixwing.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
What about clarification meant you weren’t incorrect?
100
ashphoenixwing.bsky.social @ashphoenixwing.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
Please quote the words where I said that you had to look at other skeets? Where is my argument wrong? What do you think locus of control is?
100
ashphoenixwing.bsky.social @ashphoenixwing.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
No one said you did? You don’t have to look for context at all, but people who have a stronger internal locus of control usually do when they encounter error. So why didn’t you? Why did you assume you couldn’t possibly be wrong?
110
ashphoenixwing.bsky.social @ashphoenixwing.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
We will ignore for the moment that locus of control is considered a factor in self-evaluation and therefore self-identity. Why again, did not understanding not occur to you? Why did you not assume that first or in addition, and instead of correction, not decide to ask what you were missing?
000
ashphoenixwing.bsky.social @ashphoenixwing.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
It was the original post, you simply didn’t understand how externalization of error would matter. Now, I’ve just explained it to you in the last phrase of this post. The need to publically prove external error would be eliminated if they thought about internal error as a rule.
100
ashphoenixwing.bsky.social @ashphoenixwing.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
Why did she have to be incorrect about the words she used (a thesis she had already said in other skeets) instead of you thinking you just didnt get it? Did the idea of not getting it impact your self-evaluation so to you it must have been external error?
110
ashphoenixwing.bsky.social @ashphoenixwing.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
It would? Most people flaming out on here do so because they want other people to think of them a certain way and encountering dissent means they have to convince other people that theyre the problem….which would be fixed if they didn’t think other people had to be wrong for them to be at peace.
310
ashphoenixwing.bsky.social @ashphoenixwing.bsky.social · 04/08/2026
Oh just realized that we are taught to shy away from anything that will “allow” us to develop “arrogance” and AI flattery is in the form of arrogant self-worth building, which is socially considered a part of male development so maybe it actually is threatening to us
000
ashphoenixwing.bsky.social @ashphoenixwing.bsky.social · 04/08/2026
Theres also the “sometimes agreeing with men flattering you makes them act like the social order has collapsed” that also makes us wary, so I also wonder if we find it outright threatening as well, in a way many men simply wouldn’t consider a possibility.

I think even with Green Gables theres a reason why adaptations and readers fall off once Politics overtake the politics of the first 4 or 5 novels, but the LMM had very *very* different things she was working through.

ashphoenixwing.bsky.social @ashphoenixwing.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
I dont know why y’all put yourselves down like this. The idiotic desire to both want to enjoy the shitty politics of our youth and also “fix” it is very millennial. Why would you all want to be associated with tying yourself into politically dumbass knots?

ashphoenixwing.bsky.social @ashphoenixwing.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
From what I’m seeing in the comments, this seems greenlit because of the Anne of green gables reboot, but I really don’t think you can fix (read: make realistic, but still fun) conservative fantasy. The only thing that makes conservative fantasy fun is the delusion of it.

I mean does it help that this movie says that it was first stolen and colonized from the Air Nomads by the Earth Kingdom who also did an air nomad genocide? They heard the criticism and said well no one’s hands are clean here but apparently the air nomad and the air nomads only.

Well I was just giving you the correct information because I assumed you would want it, but truthfully I don’t see how it would differ studying Hellenistic laymen? Theres no separation; to understand religiosity you would have to understand what common people are reading and watching right?

The Trojan horse in both versions depends on understanding that the Trojans are going to sacrilege, it cannot reasonably be seen as false to *them* because they don’t care about the Greek motivations. However I guess that fits with your “maybe the world was bad to begin with” vibe you got
000
ashphoenixwing.bsky.social @ashphoenixwing.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
No they aren’t. With the cyclops, Odysseus makes the mistake of pride (the gods want their favorites to be the best but at the same time not an actual challenge to the gods) and the Trojan horse is very clearly Odysseus’ crowning glory. Cleverness is a Greek ideal.

Got it, well Bluesky does have an option to limit to followers or mutuals, since they know where you’re coming from, and that might prevent people from thinking this is yet another example of how men’s emotional state is rather dependent on how incontrovertible interest in male artistry is.

Second, my point is that your friends like you, but may not like what you’re writing about. Your potential audience is people who like what you’re writing about. They are not necessarily the same circles or even close! Thinking the former group is indicative of the latter isn’t a good idea.

ashphoenixwing.bsky.social @ashphoenixwing.bsky.social · 15/07/2026
First, I didn’t say you didn’t want people to read women writers, I said that being disappointed by one reader like that decision would actually have a significant effect on your potential readership in such an unequal situation and posting about it is a choice.

ashphoenixwing.bsky.social @ashphoenixwing.bsky.social · 15/07/2026
Most of your comments are about that fact that this one woman focusing on an underserved group made you sad like your potential audience doesn’t far outweigh any woman’s, but I’m actually struck by thinking strangers who are looking for your genre would be harder to reach than friends who may not.

Makes building relationships that allow clarification hard, but being black means learning and keeping a mask is much easier because that’s like 50% of what my mama implied being black in public was. Other shades do find seem to find asking for explanations much easier I’ve found.

The person I’ve most had this or similar conversations with is my mother for instance, but I’ve had many conversations rippling out in intimacy where I’ve realized enough to know people think I am making leaps I am not making, and not enough to know what those leaps are.

For me the answer is usually yes and it’s simply outside of linguistic patterns for that type of back and forth, so I’m met with pushback. A lot of this *is* grift, but the audience is capturable in the first place because the experience is starting from personal and deeply held relationships.

I only disagree with the framing because I think demonstrative outcome is not the way to understand this. Western men have been homosocial for thousands of years. Their interests are not presenting the same, they *are* the same, because sexuality is secondary to the desire for social relationships

In this case I wonder if the fact that this government was never going to see the difference (and in fact most governments in these circumstances would see “observation” as having the same goal as active impedance) has actually made people more willing to be active since their in the same danger.

I mean I think it’s that thing in social movements that want to become broader where leaders have to mediate people’s propagandized understanding of the world, to provide the short term gain of numbers (long term conversion…eh).
