I agree. I will try. If I wasn’t so anxious all the time, I probably would’ve done it already. Though I have a feeling I’ll have to leave either way, since he’s done it in front of our director and he doesn’t bat an eye. I’ll probably be seen as some “radfem,” but I know it needs to be done.

and “save” me, but the fact that they all (women included) just stand and watch makes me think that me making a “scene” would raise more eyebrows than anything he’s doing. He was gripping the back of my neck last week, again while we’re in a group of people. It’s so humiliating.

I really do appreciate the advice. Knowing someone understands helps. I plan to contact our section leader and tell her and see what she wants me to do. I wish I was assertive enough to tell him no in the moment, but I do try to pull away and he doesn’t let me go. Not that I expect people to step in

I know the internet is not a diary, but I have no idea who to go to and I’m so pissed. He’s been there for 15 years. Either I’m the first woman he’s done this too or others have complained and nothing has been done. I wish I knew who to ask.

They’re all amazing people. It’s the board who are terrible people, and they’ve just been shown they won’t need to face the consequences of their actions as long as there are rich people with an extra $10 million to throw around.

I hope so, though I’ve found out my fellow musicians feel the same way I do. We almost have to assume this will happen again next season, if they plan a next season, so it’s still not business as usual. Everything we do from here is tainted by everything that just happened.

Ok, I really don’t want to be mean because these musicians need these jobs, but… 1. Hate the guy and hate the company he owns that gave the money. 2. The shutdown really killed the vibe. No one feels like making music anymore. 3. We haven’t figured out how to prevent this from happening

“Go to hell” is basic. “I hope the symphony orchestra you work with hides their financial ruin and mismanagement until they simply can’t anymore and shuts down mid-season and furloughs all the musicians with no plan or timeline” is terrifying. It’s possible. It happened to me.

I have a feeling it’s a lot more than the $10 million they’ve disclosed. If it were that simple, there are enough rich people in Nashville who would give it to them. The CEO going from “I’ll fight for you” to running in 24 hours tells me that they’ve uncovered a much bigger issue.

No, thankfully this time it was just the former CEO. They put all of their finances on this one patron and she died recently and left them nothing. They had to choose between continuing the season and going bankrupt in 6 months or suspending. But we had no warning and they have no timeline.
