No offense to the other months (ok, maybe some offense) but I feel sorry for people who don't have October birthdays. Wasn't I lucky to be born in my favorite month?

This is my favorite weekend of the year. It's the first weekend of October, which means it's also the weekend of the Saint James Court Art Show. And it is my happiest place and happiest event.

I am at the point where I almost don't want to read books by living authors anymore *especially* theology/Christian books. I love authors, but I am tired. Just plain tired.

It's fall break, so yesterday my son and I headed out for some hiking and stargazing. If you're near Louisville, Mount St Francis is beautiful.

Afternoon sun glows on a sycamore tree by a lake with trees reflecting off the water

Moon rise behind a barn and trees with wisps of clouds across the early night sky

A kid sits beside a lake framed by trees with late afternoon sun

Three years ago today my breakup with my former church was finalized, and I thank God for it. They all but excommunicated me ("let me go with a warning", it was a 9marks church, iykyk) because I chose an Episcopal church with women priests. So I will be celebrating my freedom today.

When I go to soccer games, I usually go watch our NWSL team. Tonight we're watching the men's USL team. I had forgotten just * how * much * male soccer players flop. It's really absurd and a very annoying disruption to the flow of the game.

The past several days have now been my days. It feels like everything has gone wrong at every turn. I can't remember which episode of Firefly it's in, but Mal asks Zoe if she's noticed anything about their luck lately, and I am feeling that. I'm tired and traumatized and just need rest.

I'm finally listening to Whistler, and it might be my favorite Ann Patchett novel yet. I've love her books for years, but maybe this book is the right book hitting at the right time. And Ann is a lovely narrator for her books. I could listen to her voice forever.

My son just had his first piano lesson, and he is absurdly fortunate. He's taking lessons through a local church's arts academy, which I only knew about because of a friend. Because he's taking lessons at a church, he has multiple people already invested in and cheering him on in learning organ.

I love baptism Sundays at my church, and today's felt extra special since my friends' kids were baptized. I especially love our church's tradition of always having "The Call" as a choir anthem after the baptisms. I have yet to make it through a baptism service without getting teary.

Tell you what--if you knew the whole truth about everyone in the Senate and House of Reps, those chambers would be dead empty. Jesus said, "Let him without sin cast the first stone."
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This is referring to Graham Platner, who has been accused of rape. In John 8:7, the woman to be stoned to death was accused of adultery, not rape. It is understood to be a powerful statement against hypocrisy, not a free-pass for politicians to rape women.
