Beautiful food. Horticultural beans, which have a rich, sweet flavor.

Two roads diverging in a yellow wood. Lowell Lake Stare Park, Londonderry, VT. October 7, 2026.

Two footpaths diverging in an autumn-tinted forest. The left-hand path goes slightly downhill and vanishes around a left turn, while the right-hand path follows a flatter, grassy route toward sunlit trees.

Sometimes the autumn leaves seem to glow brighter on a dark, wet day, the rain-polished leaves shining against the darkened bark of their trees. Seen on my way home from work, October 14, 2026.

Fiery golden and orange leaves on a small sugar maple tree.

A small sugar maple bearing a burst of glowing orange, gold and red leaves.

Close view of a crimson-and-orange leaf with other fiery-colored leaves behind, and bright leaves scattered on the ground beneath a small sugar maple tree.

Looking down a row of maple trees covered with crimson leaves to other trees covered in bright orange leaves, beneath a rumpled cloudy sky.

In some Hallmark romance movie set in Vermont in the early spring, i.e. maple sugaring season, a character, supposedly a Vermont sugar maker, is shown purportedly tapping a “maple” tree, which is quite obviously a hemlock tree.

There is also a common loon heard in RRR, in the scene where Bheem is introduced, deep in an Indian rainforest.

In another episode in which the camp receives letter from school kids, Charles reads one that has an autumn leaf enclosed, which is described as a maple leaf. It is not a maple leaf, and Charles Emerson Winchester III of Boston would have known that.

At least Benedict Arnold fought for the Continental Army before he turned his coat. This fat ass never had any loyalty to anyone except himself.

They are being paid well by big businesses to NOT uphold their oaths. We need to get money out of politics, outlaw lobbying, and enact/enforce strict ethical standards for politicians and jurists.

A forest of autumn color is spectacular, but have you ever gotten up close and personal with a single leaf?

A magnified view of a red-and-yellow maple leaf through a jeweler’s loupe. The vein pattern is similar to desiccation cracks in mud and the crazing of ceramic glaze.

I absolutely love this. I want this framed and hung on my wall. I read an essay once by a writer who couldn't write without her thousand-dollar pen and fancy ink, and expensive hand-made notebooks. A REAL writer will write with and on whatever they have at hand. A red medium-point Bic Stic...

After Uncle had died, his daughter called Dad up and asked if he wanted this crummy old toolbox that was taking up room in her garage. Dad was beside himself with happiness that his grandfather's toolbox was not lost.

I have a toolbox just like that one, which my Dad's grandfather made. Dad wanted it, but my uncle told Dad he'd sold it for $1000. Dad was so mad he didn't talk to his brother for a couple of years. Turns out Uncle had not sold it, he just hid it from Dad to make him mad. Mean avaricious SOB.

Happy October, from Vermont, on what would have been my parents' 77th anniversary.

Colorful autumn trees reflected in a mirror-still lake.

Bright red maple leaves against a deep blue sky.

One image that struck us both with dazzling horror was when the rioters tore down the stars and stripes and hung a trump flag in its place. I still can't understand how anyone can defend this.

I was at work that day in a small retail shop, and my manager turned on the news to see what trump was going to say. We watched it all unfold, and customers came in and watched with us, transfixed in horror. We both called our loved ones, knowing we were witnessing something terrible.

I saw this question posed on Reddit recently, and many of the answers were that these male OB/GYNs had seen mothers, sisters and partners suffering under the current careless system and wanted to do all they could to change that, and provide good care for women.
