HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 13hI have the same problem so I am irritated by systems that don't use a 24-hour clock (bec of the US, I assume). Read once that to avoid this problem military action is never scheduled for 12 o'clock but always 11.59 or 23.59. Can we pls persuade US to use 24-hour clock & stop calling it military time 050
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 15hThank you but I was studying International Relations at the time. I did have one lecturer who was anti very much along the lines of Tom Nairn's "The Left Against Europe" 010
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 18hUnfortunately, I don't remember that aspect. What I do remember mostly is the point that we were already being affected by EEC policies but had no place at the table. An argument that was sadly lacking in 2016. But my memory is not what it was 120
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Thankfully we can't bring back Tyburn because they built Marble Arch on it 010
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 08/10/2026I was unfortunate enough to be working in an organisation that had SkyNews on constantly on a large screen when they executed Saddam Hussein and whatever you might think of him I was horrified not to be able to get away from it. Anyone who attends voluntarily should be investigated 000
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 08/10/2026I worked with someone who apologised to her PC every time it bleeped at her. Sorry is the default English word. But I know what you mean and have often had to tell people that was what I was brought up to do and not to do so makes me feel very uncomfortable. 010
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 08/10/2026I am long-standing remainer 75-2016 and in theory would love for us to be back but do worry that we rejoin just as the European turn to the right solidifies which would just be typical of us and unfortunately appease Farage 111
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Yep -- I was late coming to it for some reason but have really enjoyed it -- now with the added take on NI reaction to immigration 000
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 07/10/2026If that is what you like. I don't find it easier to discover what I want - just a way to find rubbish I don't want to watch 000
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I spend all my time in places turning off recommendations. What I want from a streaming service is a comprehensive A-Z list of what is on offer. Most don't do this because it tends to show up how small the offering actually is rather than the same items coming up time and again in different lists 101
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Yeah but back then they were trying to ignore the High Court judges and MPs so they missed a lot else 000
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I had already been granted a refund by ebay as it is they who arrange InPost so I wasn't concerned but the tone of the email from InPost did make me laugh as they had already failed to deliver it three times 010
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Along with D Butler, he was commentator on swings on BBC elect coverage in past decades. It makes laugh watching as main presenter always seem to resent contributions & find boring - which they were unlike John Curtice and Luke Tryl. R McKenzie different matter - always fun 000
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Similar article by Jonathan Freedland recently also worth reading 010
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 06/10/2026That's how my post delivery arrive since days of having same postman now long gone. Current deliverers seem dylexic with numbers. However a recent InPost from ebay delivered to a locker instead of shop asked for and I had no way of picking up from. Sent me a very disgruntled email abt my failure 110
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 06/10/2026My brother in NZ ordered a B pressie for me from that South American river so he got the notifications not me and apparently the photo showed a picture of my feet. For once it was actually handed to me rather than the courier just saying it was 000
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Thank you for listening so I don't have to. Sorry, whoever he is interviewing I really can't listen to Nick Ferrari 010
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 06/10/2026However, JRM failed to mention that for Britain WW2 was a war of national survival. Listened to a John Pilger interview years ago on the subject 010
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Lessons learned - never get into bed with the Tories, they always screw you 000
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Not sure I ever did but there were times when they were better with politicians with some semblance of decency, efficiency, competence and just plain commonsense 140
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 05/10/2026She absolutely is not. There are "old school conservatives" I can still manage to listen to (sadly no longer in parliament). I can't listen to Kemi. I thought the past was a foreign country and we didn't like them any more 1120
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I used to go to Luton regularly but never saw the problem. The first and only times I saw the EDL was in Bradford and was horrified 110
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Thanks I came up with that snippet of info having had to write 5k words on the subject of the plague in England in the 16th and 17th century leading me into further research on the subject 000
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I might be wrong but I thought that plague is a bacterial infection and can be treated with anti-biotics 220
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I am tempted to say "good riddance" particularly if the US is now of a mind not to uphold Article 5 of the NATO Treaty 000
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 04/10/2026My sister lived in a flat in the South of France with the same one switch to rule them all. It was intensely frustrating cos it meant I had to get out of bed to switch off after I had finished reading. One of the reasons I now use an ereader with a backlight 000
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Whatever I think about British/European football - I find all talk about American football (ie no soccer) extremely tedious. 020
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I did say that was b4 I was politically aware but I subsequently studied the 1920s and 30s in depth here, in Europe and US so you could say I am now aware and able to see the comparison today. Post-1945 hindsight allows greater understanding and myth-making obviously 000
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 04/10/2026It does seem to be part of our national mythology but I do remember my dad telling me (b4 I was politically aware) about the battle of cable street 100
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I've had to block one account in response to the reply. Don't want to hear that sort of language - my choice 000
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Tories (Boris) very largely got rid of any MPs who had any understanding of competence but also what being a centre-right party and Kemi seems set to keep those with similar views out 031
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Thankfully I won't be watching as I can't stand either of them. I will wait until 10 for one of those BBC escapees on LBC. I do miss Andrew Marr on Sunday mornings. Sophy Rayworth did a good job standing in whilst the Beeb pretended to be making up its mind as to his replacement 001
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Who is Mike Graham? For me his obscurity appears to be warranted. 020
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 03/10/2026TFL beautifully unclear what diversions of the bus routes will be. It seems from TFL info that the 73 will continue to run along Oxford Street but I expect to be proved wrong. I wish someone would give TFL lessons in communication skills. I am not averse to the change but want proper info. 000
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 03/10/2026HIGNFY with Richard Ayoade very funny last night but I really wish Graham went back to panel less related to the big US names and more the irreverent humour of his earlier years 010
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I have hopes for the mid-terms but expect to be disappointed. I have heard US polling is not particulary good but mostly I have no faith in the US electorate 020
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I look forward to the post-Trump PhD dissertations but I will have to wait a few years 000
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 03/10/2026It's all down to the sourdough. If the US improved its food standards maybe it could escape this. Or maybe it's the seed oils' fault 010
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I just checked bec I thought he was HS during the General Strike which was why the dockers hated him but no he wasn't - my memory of facts I knew when I was doing O'levels is not what it was 000
HumeFan @aselectfew.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Some competition for my time tonight -- Celeb Traitors (I don't do the non-celeb), HIGNFY back and Graham, of course. I will try and fit it in around Matt Frei's Saturday prog 120
