The Telegraph's letters section proves that the strategy of inducing engagement with pro/anti Net Zero stories is working. Get them riled up with a 'pro' article, soothe them with a nonsense anti article. Keep them coming back for more...

Read every Telegraph Net Zero article with the understanding that it's all about engagement. Make the readership angry and they'll come back. Facts are very optional. This is not journalism, it's provocation.

"What can more conservative than Edmund Burke's contract of an eternal society?" That's the difference between small and big c conservatism. Being good stewards of the planet would seem to be the most conservative thing there is - instead we get a 'fuck you, I've got mine' attitude from the right.

We've created a world where younger people are saddled with student loans and face huge challenges to get on to the housing ladder. Pension contributions are, understandably, not a priority. As a boomer I realise how incredibly lucky I've been to have had my working life when I did.

So a Net Zero story in The Telegraph works for its readers like Pavlov's bell worked for his dogs. They will jump to condemn any measure to tackle AGW no matter how sensible.

The Telegraph's business model is quite simple: Find things that make their readership angry, because anger = engagement. Net Zero (sorry, 𝐸𝑑 𝑀𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑏𝑎𝑛𝑑'𝑠 Net Zero) is a gift for them, if they can spin a story to make measures to combat climate change seem bad they will.

Retired software developer here. For years my advice to people wondering about a career was 'learn to code' - it's a steady job. In a few short years AI has made that advice as relevant as saying in the early 20th century 'learn to be a farrier - people will always need horses for transportation'.

I'm OK with this. Rachel Reeves is pro-Heathrow expansion, a crazy idea considering that climate change is getting worse. Miliband would be more sensible.
