cat original intended usage

The original intended usage of the domestic cat (Felis catus) was pest control, specifically hunting rodents like mice and rats to protect grain stores.

Omarchy is a huge win for Nix.

We're going to bring sanity to packaging across all fronts, but we have to first celebrate the bright future of Linux.

> borrow checking RFC at the linker layer for arenas I hate programming discourse
This thread is being propagandized on Twitter by the Rustacians. IMHO Zig should mogg them by coming up with a borrow checking RFC at the linker layer for arenas, and bite the bullet to get a full build of libc for MacOS even if it has to be reverse engineered so Zig can deliver the safety/performance of full LIBC visibility in the compile chain all the way down to true system calls.

Not sure what a good memory arena size is but Postgres' chunk size seems to be widely adopted as a default, or it could be tuned to OS page table size - just pick something.

Where Zig is going to crush in the near future is better solvers for compile time currying and that LIBC visibility.

Fable's biggest problem right now is not being able to write in Single Static Assignment well. Zig -> SSA Zig would be very useful as a tool.

nix community #testimonials
@esrtweet on twitter:

DHH, this is meant to be a constructive criticism.

I'm having my next machine built in June, and I'm going with CachyOS rather than Omarchy, not because of the probably illusory performance improvements but because a distro as opinionated as Onarchy doesn't suit my needs.

I have my own opinions, and I don't want to spend a lot of time finding out whether or not changing Omarchy's defaults will break things that I then need to fix.

That said, I like what Omarchy is trying to do. It seems like a really good on-ramp for new Linux users.

I seriously considered Nix. I like it a lot on a technical level; unfortunately the Nix community seems to be completely insane.

thank you for the insightful email, laura from deepnote
You can now measure your team’s AI usage. In KitKats.

Last week, 12T of KitKat products disappeared somewhere between Italy and Poland. Following a thorough internal investigation, we have reason to believe our Deepnote Agent was responsible.

In its defense, AI is an energy-intensive process, and 413,793 KitKat bars constitute roughly less than one bar per Deepnote user.

To take full accountability, your AI usage in Deepnote is now measured and visible to your workspace admins. Both in KitKat bars, and USD ($).

screenshot of documentation for the effect.ts library, where hovering over the code shows an editor-style inline documentation tooltip.

the absence of type safety is responsible for loss of life and livelihood in the same way as absence of memory safety or thread safety. if you are writing serious software, it is not a matter of taste.
