Dear Saanich voters: welcome to the 1950s! The worst of the worst (many aren't much better): Sharma, DiCastri, Chambers, Izard, Lidstone, McGeachie, DeLarge, Cameron, Hodson. 000
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 07/09/2026So Victoria's bike share is Lime & Saanich's is EVO (Langford too I think). Really bad for trips crossing the border. Could semi-fix this by placing Lime parking areas on one side of the border and Evo parking areas on other side so ride would be *almost* seamless (2 bikes). Guessing they won't. 001
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 01/09/2026Geez: America bombards us with cultural products, sets up marketplaces that squeeze out local content, have a massive net trade surplus when it comes to said products and yet they still complain when occasionally a bit of money gets spent on film production in Canada. 000
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 27/08/2026I am sick of Saanich council candidates referring to anything that remotely supports active transportation as "ideological". This is both insulting and disingenuous. If you have a policy disagreement and want to argue reasons for support of your auto-centricity, fine, but this is over the top. 000
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 31/07/2026Dear Bikelashers (this means you, Save Our Saanich!): you are so filled with land-guzzling resource-intensive anti-egalitarian 1950s ideas up your rectums that the policy ideas coming out of your mouths look and smell like feces. You are fossils and I hope your children disavow your awful ideas. 000
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 16/07/2026Two more Stupefy Our Saanich candidates have emerged. As if 5 rabidly anti-bike candidates (down to 4 I think because 1 dropped out) wasn't enough. Too bad it would cost to $$ much to move but I don't want to live in a community that supports this type of politics. 000
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 09/07/2026I take my bike to get exercise, but also because transit service is so poor that it takes 2x as long to get there vs. bike. Bike isn't $0 though -- especially if you have an ebike. Chain + cassette repair, disk brake pad replacement every year or at most 2 + batt replace. Cheaper than bus tho. 000

asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 26/06/2026Is the USA a fascist, totally anti-democracy state? I'd still rate it higher on the democracy scale than, say Russia or China, but it's in league with many so-called third world countries. 000
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 21/06/2026Yes, in a page right out of the Danielle Smith How-to-Help-Oil-Companies-While-****ing-the-Environment Playbook, they cut the carbon tax here. Then they told everyone, "we can't provide Active Transportation grants anymore because we don't have carbon tax revenues anymore." 030
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 19/06/2026So the Save Our Saanich crowd is all fired up about the Quadra McKenzie Plan passing. Sheesh: they were unduly influential and still grumpy: - permitted densities slashed - bike lanes and bus lanes along Quadra killed - bus lanes along McKenzie killed - much larger "density verbotten" regions. 010
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 08/06/2026So now there's one anti-bike right-winger and one rabidly anti-bike extreme right-winger running for mayor of Saanich (I'll let you figure out which is which). Please, someone else, step forward. Progressive would be nice but at this point I'll gladly accept middle-of-road. 000

asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 03/06/2026Check out what the Stupify Our Saanich A-holes are discussing on Facebook. asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 14/04/2026I'd like to know who the true villain behind the Saanich Active Transportation cutbacks is. Clearly, Couns. Brice, Westhaver, Chambers, Harper, Brownoff. But it all came from a staff recommendation. Was it Brent Reems (CAO)? Harley Machielse (Head of Eng) volunteering AT for cuts? or OKing this? 010
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 08/04/2026Plant's opposition to the Active Transportation cuts sounds progressive and in some sense was BUT the whole process by which the cuts occurred was triggered by Colin's demand that staff construct scenarios for 4% overall cuts. 100
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 08/04/2026Might happen in City of Vic, but I'd say odds less than 1:1 (<50%). Much higher likelihood of it happening in Saanich, which threatens to become redneck car-centric Alberta West with a good measure of bikelash & anti-environment (under the guise of saving trees) thrown in. 110
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 02/04/2026Sounds like we need a "No Kings" movement directed not only at the Great Orange Orifice but also at a particular vestige of colonialism which still somehow makes us legally (though not practically) subservient to the U.K. 121
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 01/04/2026Don't know why I bother to read through Saanich 2026 Election disc group Facebook pg. More recent anti-bike rants. Common theme: people only ride bikes 2-3 mo/yr in summer. Does anyone have data on mode share by season? G.Goose counters suggest that about 1/2 the # of summer cyclists = all-year. 000
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 30/03/2026Don't count on anything even modestly progressive from this particular Saanich Council. At least 5 of the present Councilors have mindsets that are more at home in the Saanich of the 1950s and 1960s. And it gets worse: I'm sure that number will increase, not decrease, next October. 000
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 24/03/2026Maybe by "basic safety steps" these people are advocating that us pedestrians & cyclists arm ourselves with paint cannons and car-paint-scratching arm-like devices to punish errant autoholics or at least let them know we exist? Or maybe "if we go down you go down" auto-activated explosive devices? 100
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 23/03/2026Someone, please tell this to Saanich politicians. Now taking nominations for the Bikelash Capital of BC: there are probably other equally-as-bad-but-no-worse candidates, but I nominate Saanich. Supporting evidence: 1) Saanich Council's "evil 5" 2) the Stupify Our Saanich group. 010
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 21/03/2026Carney is a conservative politician. Would have been perfect in the old era of progressive conservatism (a long-dead concept). I'm guessing big reasons he's not in the Conservative party: Pee pee's incumbency, domination of the Cons by Alberta-based yahoos + a few other idiots, etc. 000
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 18/03/2026I still don't understand why the BC NDP cancelled the carbon tax here. The groundswell of opposition was coming from the Alberta proto-fascists and to a lesser extent Dud Ford's gang of Ontario thugs. No real voter screaming in BC, aside from a fringe minority. The NDP didn't need to do this. 031
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 07/03/2026And NO THANKS to Harper, Chambers, Brownoff, Westhaver and Brice, who should all hang their heads in shame for acting like the regressive politicians they are. 000
asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 06/03/2026You know, the side-street-first types aren't even prepared to change stop signs to yield signs and/or create roundabouts and/or put stop signs on the traversing roads not on the "bike route". And they seem to think that, like flying cars, bikes can fly over gaps where the side streets don't connect 000

asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 25/02/2026Karen Harper appears to be running for the mayor's position in Saanich. asaanichcyclist.bsky.social @asaanichcyclist.bsky.social · 25/02/2026I don't think that the Democrats can undo the mess, even if they win Pres + gerrymandered House + unequal Senate in '28.
