Here's my preview for @dutysupportzine.bsky.social, a charity zine focusing on the mentors of FFXIV. (Yet again, Martyn Goodfellow is in A Situation. You're all very surprised, I'm sure.) Preorders just opened, so check it out here: dutysupportzine.carrd.co

Zine Preview: Blue in the Face

The Miser's Mistress drew air into the wet fanged maw that served for its head. Martyn closed his eyes and clamped his hands over his nose. The morbol breathed out, and Martyn found his hands no help at all.

Some bad smells, you could get used to. Nobody could get used to morbol breath. The poison vapors blinded and paralyzed you, chained your limbs and closed your throat, leaving you helpless prey for the morbol's predations. It stunted even the flow of your aether channeling, keeping your spells slow and stumbling, and that was when you managed not to simply fall over heaving up your breakfast. And oh, it reeked like nothing you could even begin to speak of, even if your lips were not sealed shut by the stench itself.

Martyn fought back against his addled senses, frantically trying to cast healing spells with limbs that felt like lead.

The gentle, slow beating of a Warmoura's powdery wings against the wind. Exuviation.

Zine Preview
Tenets of Tenfingers

This time, Baderon raised his brow at the Lalafell, who only shrugged. “Unlike the others, I’ve not stepped foot outside Vylbrand in all of my twenty-two summers. Could you blame me if I wanted to see the outside world?”

That he couldn’t, and he commended their decision. What better way to hone themselves than by expanding their horizon? No adventurers were meant to stay in one place.

“Well,” he said, a slow grin spreading across his stubbled jaw, “where’re ye ‘eaded, then? Ul’dah? Gridania? Air travel’s not safe these days so yer best bet is to ‘ead o’er to Vesper Bay through sea. O’ course, ye should be familiar with that?”

J’rhoomale nodded.

“I’ll write ye letters of introduction. First thing ye should do afore takin’ on jobs at a new place is introduce yerselves to the local guild proprietor. Ye’d not want the levemetes telling on ye and havin’ yer memberships revoked.”

“They’d do that?” J’rhoomale asked, skeptic.

I worked on a fintastic bit of writing for my favourite lalafellin #ffxiv FSH guildmaster for @dutysupportzine.bsky.social! Some Squidzure Dragoon also makes a cameo somewhere down the line but most of it is Wawalago complaining about Tuliyollal’s staircases. All proceeds benefit ALRES PH!

Wawalago’s Wanderings: Treacherous Travellings in the Territory of Tural

But despite all the attested adventures of Ketenramm Blaufystsyn, Wawalago knew for a fact that the man was not a fisher. All the fish in his descriptions were only referred to by the vaguest of descriptions.

They existed, and existed in great quantity but the call of the water did not do much for Ketenramm for him to look any deeper. Or take the rod up himself. Wawalago knew this, and his heart yearned to find of the bounty of the sea as much as Ketenramm found the bounty of the land.

excerpt of "What Makes A First Sword"
by winterune

---

Aldis chuckled as he sheathed his practice wooden sword to his hip. “Now, now, the skills I showed you just now are the fancier tricks. You’ll not be doing them til you’ve built some muscles and perfected your forms.”

A chorus of whines rose from the children, prompting a small smile to tug at his lips. Aldis strode around his class of twelve. “Practice is key, my friends. Having a firm grip on your sword allows you to block and parry incoming attacks in the absence of a shield. With proper footing, you’ll not easily lose your balance should your assailant decide to overpower you with their strength. And for that, you need muscles. Your arms; your legs; even your buttocks and hip. You’ll need stamina, and good control of your breathing.” He paused. Mylla, standing outside his circle of students in astonishment, met his infernal beam as he raised his head. “Is that not so, First Sword?”

Twelve pairs of eyes turned around to look at her.
