Introducing... #model #nudemodel #artmodel #muse #friendswhomodel #archive #D200
Fore-ever thankful for the handful of local amateur models I've had over the years...
I introduce Kelsey, who has become a good friend and always up for a challenge or ideas to try with just a phone call.
Not recalling how exactly we met but ever since during her art modeling explorations and me exploring art-modeling from behind the camera, we were like peanut butter and jam.
I lost count how many photoshoots we did but each one was unique as we explored her expressions in lifestyle and mostly nude work pushing the boundaries a tiny bit by touching on implied situations but keeping it classy. With consensual trust in each other we made great memories and art in many different situations with work we want to be lasting and proud of.
Looking back at our files I am transported back to each day and situation, places we traveled to, what was said, what was done and how we got there. Growing with each shoot and mainly having loads of fun doing it makes the memories even more special.

She is now a mother and retired from modeling and doing great. Obviously we live separate lives now but occasionally (not enough) keep in touch. It is when I review the work we did, that is when I truly feel that I am blessed to have had friends like this in my life to be creative with and to be trusted with.

This image was from the middle of our relatively short collaboration period on a shoot where we switched from the garage studio set-up to the bedroom set.
Here we took advantage of the afternoon window light to get some classic posing. At the time most of my art modeling work was done simply with my D200 and the trusty 24-85mm kit lens, sometimes using strobes or bounce-card reflectors, here it was straight ambient window light in the room... a lovely shot of Kelsea in my opinion that shows her natural aura.... Plus she is a real sweetheart ❤️ who will always hold a special place in my heart.

Good Morning #morning #rise #riseandshine #sunrise #tentview #mountains #sierranevada #california #camping #backpacking #backcountry #hiking #yosemite #cathedralpeak #cathedrallakes #X100T
Making final plans for my return to Yosemite NP in a couple weeks, gathering up may camping gear, most which I have owned and used for just over a decade as evident from this image shot from my lightweight one person tent.
This image is from a Yosemite backcountry multi-day hike, this being my first night's camp at upper Cathedral Lake with a great view of Cathedral Peak. Both sunset and dawn/sunrise views were epic and peacefully quiet compared to what I will probably experience on this next trip as I will only be in the valley with hundreds of others but it's only for two nights and two and a half days.
My goal is to take my single speed trail bike to escape into the meadows with my camera(s). This is mainly a photo trip to capture points of interests that I have ignored for decades of going to the park. However I do plan on doing a couple waterfall day hikes, preferably before the crowds arrive, swim in the Merced River and brave some of the amenities and cafes/grills, perhaps checking out the main resorts and of course what Every nature photographer should do in Yosemite is to visit the Ansel Adams Gallery.
This image was shot from my sleeping bag with the ole trusty Fujifilm X100T lightly processed in Lr as I remember it in that moment.

Should take my Hassy?! #nude #artnude #nudephotography ##nudemodel #artmodel #Hasselblad #Hasselblad503cx #photocommentary #boobs #b&w #monochrome shot with the #D200 and the #50mmF1.8
My last post was me preparing for a possible photo/camping trip back to Yosemite. I’m going thru my camping gear I am also trying to decide which camera to take and I have it nailed down to my Nikon D850 and perhaps one of my Hasselblad medium format film cameras, you know because when in Rome… referring to what Ansel Adams used there on occasion.
My thought is to get the money shots with the Hassy and everything else AND back up images to what I shoot on film is always a good guarantee that I will surely come away with what I want because film and exposures can be unpredictable sometimes. It has actually saved me a time or two shooting with a digital back up.

So for my nude shot I brought back a shot I did and already posted back in my Bluesky beginnings, in fact my First nude post on this page but this time un-cropped and uncensored because back in the first post I was not sure of the Bluesky community and if there were any bad players that would bombard my image with rude comments, dick-pix and any censorship or deletion.

Not mentioned in then first post for protective reasons, the model pictured is the lovely Jess Robinson shot well over a decade ago. A super lovely and enthusiastic southern girl with a big heart and a drive to create art, and as a playful idea I wanted her to show off my first ever Hasselblad in her own way and it worked as both a fun shot but also a commentary of certain (graphic) nude photography that will happen in the “nude photography” online space that tries to pass as “fine-art”… we all know the kind, right?!
Anyways, that’s that. Enjoy!

Nature Calls… #nature #meadows #mountains #trees #rock #waterfalls #sierras #california #yosemite #YosemiteNP #hiking #naturephotography #tripplaning …this image shot on the #X100T almost seven years ago.
The mountains are calling, specifically a much long awaited return to my favorite place of zen, Yosemite National Park.
Even though I have been there many times in my lifetime, I usually spend ninety percent of my time there in the backcountry away from the crowds of Yosemite Valley but I’m getting the urge to battle those crowds because of photo ops I have in mind that has eluded me for decades that I always wanted to capture, on top of attractions and hikes I haven’t done in ages or ever.

At the moment I am planning to visit next month after having not been back there in almost seven years now.
Taking inventory on camping gear I have and checking on ways to get there via public transportation, something I have never done before, you know because of gas prices these days. I might as well take advantage of certain discounts I have available to me right now…

More to come.

Kat - to continue on the name theme. #nude #artnude #fineartmodel #artmodeling #artpose #interpretivepose #b&w #monochrome #D200
Kat Love is a well sought after fine art model photographed by some of the most respected art photographers on the globe. Also from my hometown area I was instantly a fan of her amazing work, which was why I was amazed she replied to my calls for collaborating on some photos.
Being in the same circles of art nude communities we hit it off instantly and became fast friends which I still honor today. Recently reconnecting I am hoping to revisit our collaborations again sometime in the beer future.
This image was one of many compositions we explored up in my local mountain locations over a decade and a half ago. Between our different sessions I have a tone of keepers, that is how creative and great she is at art modeling. I always say she poses from the tip of her toes to the tips of every finger. Her lines and shapes of her posing is inspiring to the art of modeling, a true master of the craft.
If you are an aspiring art model or a photographer who need a reference to art modeling I highly recommend looking her up, hell she is the cover feature on Kim Weston’s book, yes the infamous Weston family of photography.
Thank you Kat for everything, your inspiration for my photography efforts and the hundreds of memorable stunning images we made and also your friendship.

Photo shot outdoors in Santa Barbara using the trusty Nikon D200 with the AF-S nikkor 24-85mm at 55mm (82.5mm full frame equivalent).

Carlotta #archive #modelshoot #artmodel #nudemodel #boiduor #portrait #beauty #b&w #monochrome #D100 m: Carlotta Champagne @thecarlotta.bsky.social
So back in the days (mid 2000s) I newly switched to digital from film I was driven to do as many photoshoots I could now that I didn't have to worry about the limitations and costs of shooting film.
At the time aside from a little Sony P&S rangefinder style camera (DSC V3) I was able to get a hold of a used Nikon D100 and a 24-85mm nikkor kit lens but still preferred my film era manual nikkor lenses, thank goodness the mounts stayed the same.

So I got this opportunity to shoot this official online playboy model that peaked my interest and who has worked with some photographers I know.
I made the drive to Hollywood and met her and her good [model] friend Liz but I had only booked Carlotta.
With a pair of hot-lights in tow, some fabric, my camera and three old lenses, we made the best of what we had for our two-hour shoot.
Being a nervous wreck because I was shooting with the incredible Carlotta Champagne trying to not let my fanboy come out, we actually ended up having a fun time shooting nudes with good conversation. This shot reflects the energy that morning.

Now I totally remember Carlotta being a real sweetheart and easy to work with like the true professional she is.
After that day she was really gracious within the art community and referred me to other models which I truly appreciate to this day. It shows what amazing class she has.

I have since only met up with her one other time when I came down to shoot with a visiting model friend (Floofie) who was staying at her place.
The evening before my shoot a bunch of us went out for a lovely dinner.
Carlotta's home has some amazing decor loaded with Hollywood film era collectibles and movie wardrobes etc. and I was wanting to see it all, and how she found it all. It just broadened my admiration of her character.
Anyways go give her some love and see her amazing work she has done and still does thru her web links, you'll thank me later.

If you see this Carlotta, HEY Girl 👋 Hope you're doing amazing.

Cocooned #fineartnude #artnude #artnudemodel #nature #rocks #bodysock #monochrome #b&w #X100T Model: Anastasia Arteyeva her IG: @anastasiaarteyeva … worth every minute of your time to see her work, trust me 😉
A morning up on the mountain with the amazing and inspiring Anastasia Arteyeva. An artist in her own right she brings that vision to any environment she enters.
This frame was at the beginning of our session when we were hiking thru rock formations. She pulled out this body sock from her bag, something I used before in other shoots, it is a great and fun ice breaker to get into a creative flow.
Our nature session lasted the whole morning and produced a ton of wonderful art thanks to Anastasia… a day, a photoshoot I hold as a memorable one to this day.

For this shot I used my trusty ole Fujifilm X100T using available reflective yet diffused morning light, and a little luck as we were basically in the shade of big boulders and rock faces.
Thanks Anastasia, it’s always an honor to work together 🌹

Dreaming of going back to French Polynesia... After the massive flooding in Hawaii, my annual summer surf trip there may be questionable, so looking at alternatives... Need to renew passport first. #summer #FrenchPolynesia #islands #Moorea #BoraBora #Tahiti #paradise #outriggercanoe #islandbliss
I really need to get my expired passport in order because lately I have been thinking back to 2002 when I was in French Polynesia for a world competition in outrigger canoe racing that took place in Bora Bora.
This image was the week after the event when I was island hopping.
The final morning on my second to last island of the trip I paddled out to a secluded motu (reef) island, floated and swam with the lagoon sea life, soaking up the last full day of sun of Mo'orea sunshine [I think I was au-natural here that day getting full tan] before paddling back to the main island, jumping on my beach cruiser bike to get my first and only tattoo from a traditional Tahitian artist, [part of it is represented on my profile art]... so essentially this photo is of the last hours of my pure unmarked virgin skin. I then promised myself afterwards I would not get another tattoo unless I returned to these islands and hopefully this same artist.

As to insure waterproof imaging from paddling across the lagoon, this photo and others that morning was shot with a store bought disposable Fujifilm underwater film camera, then many years later digitally scanned for archiving.
Here I am on a smaller neighboring motu looking back at the larger one. Sadly since I was there, and some who have been there recently knows that these motus are now occupied by tour and event excursion services and no longer the tranquil reef island I remember. Still beautiful tho but now more people in the mix, so no more naked swimming with tropical fishies and feeding them pieces of baguettes. Just lucky I had the solitude experience when I did almost twenty-four years ago.

The next day I took a ferry to Papa'ete for a couple days and on the last day I surprised and reconnected with an old Tahitian friend I met back home 15 years prior when she was on vacation. We had a blast catching up at her home with that island hospitality before she gave me a ride to the airport for my midnight flight back to California. So preceding my motu island photo is This one. The main reason of me being in French Polynesia.
The Outrigger Canoe (Va'a in Tahitian) World Sprints happens every four years in a different location, basically it's the Olympics of outrigger competitions. That year (2002) it took place at Matira Beach on the outer island of Bora Bora. I was part of Team USA/California masters crew.
It consisted of different course legnths and several qualifying to illumination heats that lasted five-ish days... an event of a lifetime in a place I dreamt of since I was a kid.

This photo is between our heats one day as I was able to walk out pretty far in 80 degree (F) chest deep lagoon water with one of my old Nikon film cameras with a nifty-fifty mm Ai-S lens loaded with positive transparency film. The camera ended up skipping frames that week when I would use the film advance lever due to my negligence of not servicing the camera before I took this trip... Big lesson learned; If you ever take a trip to a tropical humid location, PLEASE service your camera before hand because that salt air will effect your inner mechanical parts by drying up any lubrication you have left. I ended up with 1/3rd of my rolls of film exposed from that point on, so 2/3rds of the film are blank from film advance mechanism not locking in to allow the shutter to engage. I was devastated to say the least that I was not able to capture everything I set out to on that rare trip.
Thank goodness digital cameras became a thing since that time... but still, make sure those are in tip top shape before I make this trip again, hopefully that becomes reality sometime soon, after I get that damn passport re-issued.
Photo is of a sprint heat, teams not known in this one. Shot on a Nikon FE with the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 Ai-S using Kodak Ektachrome slide film because I wanted to display them through slide projectors back home and for the true blue tone colors of the environment... that was the idea at least.

Peek-A-Boo Floofie #nude #artnude #studio #monochrome #b&w #palmfrond #studioprop #XT2 m: @floofiesworld.bsky.social < isn't she awesome?! Now go give her page some love.
I can't believe this was eight years ago, Wow.

...Went down to LA to meet up with my dear go-to friend Kira, booked a studio in the fashion district (FD Studios) and did what we always do; create some art nudes, then got a bite to eat afterwards, caught up on life stuff before I had to get back to the train station to head home.
That day I was excited to try out some new lenses I got for my Fujifilm system at the time and obviously to reconnect with Kira after three years from the last time we worked together.
I had some ideas for this shoot of experimental means with my new-ish cameras and [like most of my shoots] ended up shooting off around 450 frames, all different and no bursts... yeah I'm old school that way.
This image was captured with the Fujifilm X-T2 and the original XF56mm f1.2 R, natural window light from her right side with a minimal fill gridded soft strobe to her left to insure smooth contrast on the shadow side, triggered with the studio's on camera master unit. Hope internet compression doesn't image quality too much.

Now I remember taking the train because a few days before our scheduled time in LA, roads out of my town were closed due to a huge 24 hour super rain storm that dumped so much water that it triggered massive landslides, boulders, water and mud to rush off the local mountains to the ocean destroying property on the way, covering roads and the highway. I was afraid I would have to cancel due to having no reasonable access out of town, but luckily Amtrak was cleared through the rubble a day or two before and the shoot was on.

It's always a good and productive time when I shoot with the ever so talented and lovely Floofie... We're certainly due for a re-union shoot soon :)

Bodyscape #nude #artnude #artnudemodel #bodylines #bodyscape #bodycontour #studioshoot #monochrome #bw #D100 m: Kerri Taylor
Way back in late 2007 an east coast model who I have been admiring and in contact with for a couple years was coming to the area, so we set up a time to do some shooting in my little scrappy home studio at the time.
We started with some wild sexy rocker chic stuff then went into some art nude ideas, something she was not known for at the time but she did very well with posing and emotion.
This is on tiny example of what we did and this surprised many in her fan base that she can do art nudes so beautifully. I mean heck, she had the figure to do whatever she wants.
Kerri is intimidating in her aura as she carries herself in model mode when she is dressed up yet striking in gorgeousness to the point where I was a bit nervous when she met me at my front door, I'll be honest in my recollection. I literally felt out of her league as I did when I first met and shot with Carlotta Champaign. Kerri was/is at that level to me.
Once we made our introductions and discussed what to do, nerves went away for the most part until she came out in her first creation of a daring outfit. I don't get completely stunned often during shoots but this was a moment I'll never forget, even my housemate caught a glimpse of and tuned to me with a "you're photographing That? " look... Once we stepped into the garage/studio everything settled and then we got into the creative flow.
After a couple costume changes or variations and a break we went into full art nude mode and the rest is history including this image here where I wanted the light to gently fall across her amazing form.
Back then all I had digitally reliable and versatile was my Nikon D100. Since I went mostly digital, film is usually not a consideration for a first time photoshoots.
Kerri is still modeling and when I can I have hopes to reconnecting with her again after 18.5 years... That would be a special homecoming and definitely an emotional one for me after the results and good time we had that day back in 2007.

From the archive. An impromptu 2x2 photoshoot at a nude beach near me which began as a bikini shoot for both models.
Ava, knowing my work wanted to try some nude concepts, I obliged of course being that this is a rare thing for her to do other than the strategically decorated semi-nude work she has done.
Glad to say we both were very happy with what we shot. A great way to spend my birthday I have to add.

Blood Moon [read alt text] #lunareclipse #bloodmoon #fullmooneclipse #nightsky #stars #ourownnaturalsatelite #orange #moon #XE1 #300mm #450mmFF
So yesterday in the early morning hour between 3 nd 4 AM we had a Blood Moon (lunar eclipse) event. As much as I wanted to stay up to watch it and maybe get a new shot, I couldn't being that I'm already sleep deprived. In saying that I knew I already had a decent image of one from the past. This one shot I April 2015 at 4:11 AM.
Fujifilm X-E1 with an adapted Nikkor 70-300mm lens. I had bracketed two exposures together to bring out the stars which the moon made easy at this stage of full eclipse.
Glad I shot this when I did. Next time I hope to get an 800mm for my high megapixel D850 and get an even better detailed close up image without cropping... better yet a comparable telescope would be nice.

Kat on a Rock A 2008 image with a 2002 camera... or is it a shot from yesterday with a modern camera. Sets up a great debate doesn't it ?! #artnude #artnudemodel #fineartmodel #naturenude #nature #california #mountaintop #rock #monochrome #bw #artpose #emotivepose #archives #D100 m: Kat Love p: Me
In my attempt to post something on my instagram, I was playing around in my archives and came across my shoot with Kat Love back in march of 2008 back when I was shooting with the now ancient D100, and I have to say the image quality has held up really nicely compared to all the cameras I have acquired since. No wonder so many long time shooters are coming back to these older cameras in 2026.
Anyways, this was our first shoot up on the mountains above Santa Barbara and Kat was so fun to shoot with; a pure and accomplished fine art model in the art world, she flowed with one posing idea after another which seemed endless while taking her time so I can compose the best way I can, very much how a emotive musician can chose the right notes at the right time and gently go with the flow. She is to me the David Gilmour of fine art modeling which is why I included an audio accompaniment of Breathe (in the Air) by Pink Floyd in the instagram post. What's crazy is that it was the first clip to randomly come up, as if the algorithm already knew.

I just want to add that I am blessed to have worked with some of the world's best models in the art world and each and every one of them are top tier in their own right and the variety between them all will not only improve your photography eye but will also inspire things you thought weren't reachable.
If you are serious about the arts, it pays to book a really good professional model... and like me, years will pass and you look back at what you both created and realize that it was not only the best thing you did for your portfolio but an inspiration to continue many years later because you now know what you're capable of doing with great models.

Iconic Nature #roadtrip #highway395 #California #EasternSierras #AlabamaHills #MountWhitney #morning #sunrise #XPro2
It's been six and a half years since I did this roadtrip that looped the state. Here was one of the last camping spots of that trip. Before the sun rise I made my way over to Mobius Arch to get that one shot I always wanted with the arch rock framing Mt. Whitney, the highest point in the contiguous 48 states.
Many make the mistake of thinking Lone Pine Peak to the left here is Mt. Whitney but they are sadly mistaken because from the Alabama Hills it looks higher, it's definitely not and the laws of perspective/distance tricks the uninformed because Lone Pine peak is closer and in the foreground compared to the actual Mt. Whiney which stands a good four miles further back as displayed here in my photo with it's serrated edge leading up to the summit.
I've summited several mountains but summiting Mount Whitney is still high on my bucket list, but in order for me to do it at my age I would have to start training now for a summer 2027 attempt hoping I get on the lottery for the hard to get wilderness trail permit.
Regardless it is always a beautiful place to photograph and explore the nature below it.

Amanda came over to help me with something I wanted to improve on, which is studio lighting quality in terms of nude work and portraiture.
Her amazing feminine figure was what the doctor ordered and the main reason I booked her.
I was able to apply everything I learned in what I learned in figure study drawing classes over the years in reference to how light works on shapes and contours of the human form and everyday subjects using light not outlines to determine separation of elements of the figure.
I could teach a whole course on why lighting is so important to figure work and how every contour and shape directs and re-directs light to form a composition, everything from direct lit areas to shadowing and everything in between and how reflective light works and is the unspoken hero of an image. As in sketch and painting media, the same applies to photography, and not just in nude or portrait studies but in everything we shoot and how to expose for that dynamic range of what lighting we are using or given. I think this is why I preferred b&w photography over color when it comes to nude and portrait work.
Spend a couple of minutes studying this image and see what I'm talking about. It's not my best example but quite up there in the purpose of the study.
Again a huge thank you to Amanda [where ever she is these days] for our wonderful session. Looking through the files of that day it sure looks like we had such a fun time together getting these images.

I HAVE HAD ENOUGH of This SH*T ... #scream #shout #ripitup #release #anger #emotion #nude #artnude #expressivenude #monochrome #b&w #windowlight #archive #D200 #35mm #slowshutter #shutterdrag #nudemodel #artnudemodel model: #ZinnStar
Zinn Star is one of those dream models I had the chance to work with two or three times and I need to feature her more often because looking back at each of our photo sessions I have tons of what we call as "keepers".
Shooting with Zinn was a treat and inspiration and I cherished our time together in the studio or on location.

This shot was from our first session at my home surprisingly fifteen years ago. Using window light and perhaps a foam core board reflector as to save some detail on her shadow side, I had her be fiercely expressive, frustrated, angry, lashing out and roar. She sold the action by grabbing her breasts as one would rip their shirt in anger... I just Love this detail for the shot.
Now intentionally or by happy mistake, I honestly don't recall really, but my shutter speed was clocked at 1/5th of a second. It think it was set to equal the Hasselblad 6x6 I was also shooting and I forgot to reset my Nikon, whatever, It captured her slight movement, some might say it's a bad photo but to me the motion blur adds to the emotion and intention of her pose.

Of the hundreds of great images we created, this blurry yet intense photo of Zinn is one of my favorite we have produced, maybe because it is different and out of the normal thing we would traditionally do... crazy how that happens right?!
Idk, but art to me is the creation of the moment and feeling of the creative process. Yes we can do precisely choreographed set up posed shots, and I love doing those to but sometimes flying by the seat of your pants [as they say] is fun too, just like musicians do just jamming out grooving to a feeling.
Either way it's always a learning process, even for those of us who have been doing this for many decades, and that's what always keeps it fresh and inspiring.

Forever grateful to Zinn Star 🤍

More times than not the islands will deliver some pretty epic sunsets. Just when I thought the distant cloud cover would block a photo opportunity, then This happens. Beams of warm light shoots out from the bottom and top of the cloud bank and suddenly life is good.
A great ending to a long beach walk at the right place.
Notice the kid jumping off the wall, it's a thing to do here along body boarding and body surfing with all the local kids, just make sure you don't hit any honu (sea turtles), dey hurt brah. 🤙

My Valentine 🤍 #valentine #valentinesday #valentinephotoshoot #archive #photoarchive #nude #artnude #femalenude #newmodel #b&w #monochrome #sunlight #shadows #composition #femalefigure #femaleform #nakedbody #torso #breast #D200 #50mm The Model: it's a secret
About a decade or so ago I had the most memorable Valentines weekend ever... here playing with a setting sun's shadow play on A.D's figure. Being creative with light and shadows is a thing I have.

The story of this shoot:
Our mutual admirations of each others online nude work [her modeling anonymously, me photographing], she has never shot in front of anyone's camera except her partner's.
She proposed that she was coming to town for valentines day and that we should finally meet and maybe shoot if I had time... long story short I instantly said Yes Yes Yes and we ended up shooting for three days straight.

With studio gear in tow we started with corporate environmental half body and head shots she needs for her business use. A good warm up, something useful and productive, plus I needed the practice.
Next was cos-play, bikini and lingerie, then to topless, and by the end of the 2nd day we were all in on art nude mode.
Day 3, Inhibitions fully gone and 1 on 1 trust well established since day one the only thing left to do is be as creative as we can be.

Honestly I was just so honored to be her one and only choice [outside her partner's] to photograph her au-naturel.
I have worked with many many nude models for different art mediums over the years but the fact she chose me to break her proper nude modeling cherry is something I can never take for granted.
I have been the "first" for a few aspiring art models and it's always a real honor of respect when I get asked... so I say yes and do my very best to make their experience pleasant and fun on top of delivering the best artistic representation of them I can, and then seeing the joy in their face of how beautifully their natural form can be portrayed is priceless... That there is all I need to continue creating and do what I love.

Model remains anonymous as she is no longer online and being respectful for her privacy.
Either way, a huge thank you and hug for my lovely friend for a great valentines day/weekend💘

From the archives of my high desert shoot with Chelsea.
Quite a memorable day and an honor to create with this talented and wonderful model.
Loaded with my Hasselblad 503cx, Carl Zeiss 80mm Planar T* a few rolls of 120 film, my Nikon D200, 12-24mm, 50mm and 24-85mm we used two locations that day and she braved both with the given weather conditions like a true champ.
Anyone who has worked with Chelsea knows what a sweetheart and professional she is, she knows her lighting and camera angles and that goes a long way in my book.
I just wished I could have worked with her more often because in my experience, familiarity over time lends to greater ideas and work, but then there are times for instance looking back at the image files of this shoot where things click right out the gate, and that is instantly rewarding and something every photographer/model strives for.
I am eternally grateful for her time and talent and friendship that day.
~
Go give her your time at her page if you can and tell her Art sent you.

The bts camera setup on a quiet calm morning at Mt. Lassen in Northern California, one of the last volcanos in the US mainland to erupt only 110 years ago. #nature #forest #lake #mountain #LassenNP #California #XH1 #X100T
Looking at the east face of Mt. Lassen on a calm morning. This is the side of most impact of the 1915 eruption. That is my Fujifilm X-H1 on the tripod looking at a perfect mirroring of the volcano. Shot with my X100T… (continued on second photo)May 1915 was the last time California had a volcanic eruption, second to last with Mt. St. Helen in Washington state being the last in 1980. Touring the mountain of Lassen you can find continuous active features on the mountain itself with steam vents and bubbling volcanic mud pits and hot springs. Well worth a visit if in the area including a hiking trail to the summit for amazing 360* views and the aftermath terrain of the 1915 event. ~ Archived eruption photo credit to NPS (US National Park Service)

In short theme from my last sectional figure image I thought I'd post another awesome PNW model who helped me with this somewhat emotive gesture shot a little over nine years ago, well that was the idea at least. #artnude #artnudemodel #hands #torso #monochrome #b&w #X100T Model: Verronica Kirei
This was my second time with the lovely Verronica, the first was when I visited Portland Oregon and the second time (this one) was at the FD Studios rooftop in Los Angeles' fashion district.
The sun had already just set at this moment so I was working with reflective light from the sky and surrounding structures without artificial light and I wanted somewhat of a high key, moderately high contrast image. Luckily my old Fujifilm camera was able to get what I wanted quite cleanly.
Kudos to my friend in creation Verronica for her time, talent, bravery, grit and stunning figure once again. I miss shooting with her.
Happy Birthday month to her and go give her some attention at her website at verronicakirei.com

New Years Day afternoon walk. Always beautiful dramatic sunny days right after a rain storm which called for me to bring out the big gun this time. #greenmeadows #grassymesa #palmtrees #harbor #ocean #mountain #clouds #puffyclouds #americanriviera #coastaltown #beachtown #D850 #50mm #1x1
This is shutter click #406 on this camera I purchased brand new three and a half years ago. Being that the Raw files are so huge from this sensor I rarely bring it out, but on the bright side it is still brand spanking new so when I do shoot it it's like Christmas again 👍
What you will not see here on this online compressed copy are how the structures in the foothills below the cloud bank and the boats anchored off the beach are detailed and relatively sharp as I see in my Raw file.
As far as exposure quality it is my honest opinion that the D850 and the Canon 5DSR are the best DSLRs if you need quality detailed images with the Nikon however having significantly better dynamic range and much easier to edit the in post when it comes to EV, color, shadows and noise/banding recovery.

Happy Nude Year y'all. As with every January and as an art lover and part time creator of nude imagery and collaborator, my wish for the societal mindset on nude art to open up is a life long concern. Unfortunately it's never ending battle. #nude #artnude #b&w #D200 M: @floofiesworld.bsky.social
From the archive when I was shooting a lot; a morning beach photoshoot with my ole dear friend and long time go-to model Floofie.
The morning light from the east was perfect for a shot like this and made this one of my favorites for how it contours Kira's form and body lines with her pose angles while hoping to capture her respectfully yet sensually in a natural way. Her arm and hand placement adds to what I think is an added element to the feel of this photo.
Shot with my now trusty old D200 at the time and a Nikkor 50mm f1.8D, converted to black and white it also looks gorgeous in the original Raw color file but monochrome really focuses on the details I mentioned already.

An Eternal Thank You to Kira for always inspiring and uplifting my own photography. Every time over the years we shot I learned new things about my abilities with working with talented models such as Kira. Our photoshoots were always a highlight of my practice because I knew we would always come out with wonderful images I would be proud of and cherish for ever.

My model shoots were tapering down well after this photoshoot which in the end lead to one or two shoots a year before I finally called it quits six and a half years ago. Even though I put a lot of my own personal resources into my photoshoots, nothing ever came of them for me to continue other than memories in a hard drive.
I truly miss it, the interactions of the creative process and just enjoying the time working with friends of the arts, but hopefully I will start shooting again this year and be sure Kira will be the first one I call . 🩶
