I might as well share the progress on one of my 3D models. The Buzzy animatronic has a hat, hair, and hands now. It took a while, but that’s primarily because I was making new hands for Rocket which I reused for Buzzy, of course. #WIP #3Dmodel #animatronic

Current progress of the Buzzy animatronic model I’m working on. For now, his head is mostly finished and so is his body. All I’m missing is the headset, clothes and that freaking chair, which is actually where the bot’s valve bank is hidden.

To recap on what he looks like or at least the elements that are finished, it’s kind of like Radar from MASH, although the animatronic was made before the final version of Buzzy existed, so his face is more bottom heavy and him having brown hair is a bit of a coincidence. He also has blue eyes, which were probably intended for when he was still Captain Cortex, since certain pictures of the maquette show him with blue eyes as well. As for his body, it’s surprising thin and closer in appearance to Mickey Mouse, though with smaller hands and feet, despite concept art showing that Cortex was significantly shorter and hand smaller limbs as well. In the case of this model, it has a white body mesh as a placeholder and a basis for when I rig him.

In terms of rendering, I’m currently using a toon shader from an add on called Paint System and some free NPR glass shaders I got on Blender Kit for the shiny parts like the eyes and irises.

A design sheet of Rocket, a sentient animatronic/robot of short stature with a chubby body type. He has short black hair, thick eyebrows, long eyelashes, big cartoony eyes with cameras for pupils and a warm beige latex mask (his “skin”). There are three variations in this piece:

The first one shows him fully clothed, with his fashion consisting of an indigo and pink baseball cap, a black jacket with purple on the rim of the collar, white undershirt, light blue cuffed jeans, and indigo and pink gloves and shoes. These are definitely not his only clothing options, as part of his whole character is that he frequently changes what he wears depending on what he’s in the mood for, but that’s a topic for another day. Just know that what I have mentioned in many of his descriptions are his default clothes.

The second one would be him without clothes. I’ve drawn him like this before, but some subtle changes were made. Now only his chest has an outer body shell, with almost everything else covered in fabric, except for the hands, which are bare mechanisms, and, of course, his head. The body’s colors remain the same, black with grey accents where underwear would be on a human. How this whole thing works I haven’t figured out yet, apart from the fact that these bots are a mix of hard components and soft ones.

Speaking of which, the third design is just his mech. I don’t know how to describe it apart from being very similar to a human skeleton, but obviously a robot with animatronic components for the face. It’s not like the Terminator, for the record. Rocket doesn’t even have teeth. 😭

As mentioned in the post’s caption, I’m leaning further into the fact that he’s a little person, so I’ll specify that in his case, he’s disproportionately small, with with an average sized head and body and smaller than average limbs, except slightly exaggerated, since he was designed in the image of a cartoon character.

It’s been a bit since my last piece of Cranium Command art, so here’s a height reference for my AU Buzzy and Captain Cortex designs and their canon versions for further comparison. Idk how ”tall” they are in canon, lol. The canon ones are just speculation. #craniumcommand #epcot #wdw #fanart

Art featuring two different versions of Buzzy and Captain Cortex from Cranium Command. Important elements remain the same for their respective designs, like the fact that Buzzy wears a typical green cadet uniform with a brown aviator jacket and a dark grey headset and boots, and Cortex wears a red-orange pilot jumpsuit with a blue hat and white gloves. The main differences with my AU versions are the following:

Buzzy is a bit taller looking due to the fact that he’s 2 1/2 heads tall, while the canon version is only 2 heads tall. His also more muscular due to time having passed and for the purpose of keeping his silhouette top heavy while giving him a jacket that actually fits. Additionally, I incorporated elements of the animatronic’s design, like blue eyes and brown hair. In my AU, Buzzy is 3’3 inches tall.

Cortex is also very different in my AU, being significantly taller, though in “canon”, if the Colossal Pictures picture counts as canon, his height isn’t specified. He’s 3 heads tall in my design, and in terms of height he is 3’11 inches. In terms of other traits that were added, he has black hair and brown eyes. It’s not visible in this image, but he has a receding hairline.

The rendering style is mostly lineless with gradients and rim lights and the art style is the usual Disney look. With variations on the styles. Both Buzzy and Cortex have regular eyes in my AU, while in the official designs, Buzzy has dot eyes and Cortex has regular eyes, though without a visible iris.

Orkid an adult female Icelandic/Northern Resident killer whale who lives in SeaWorld San Diego. She's recognized by her slimmer body, with a round head shape. Her diamond shaped eyepatches slope downwards giving her a bit of a sad/serious look. Additionally, being a hybrid with Northern Resident genes, her fin and flippers are a bit pointier, and her saddle patch is a bit smoother looking if that makes sense. She also has big eyes.

The art style is in between stylized and realistic using grainy brushes. Though the original illustration was a png, I added a background which is stylized artwork of the underwater viewing area at SeaWorld San Diego, which has clear blue water. Orkid was also shaded to fit with the background.

Doing a different approach to stylized ceta stuff again. This time it's more of a balance between stylized and realistic. Nakai a young adult male Icelandic killer whale who lived at SeaWorld San Diego up until his passing on August 4, 2022. He was easily identified by his large pectoral flippers, tall dorsal fin which leaned towards his left side with two notches near the tip, and noticeably asymmetrical flukes, with the left remaining mostly straight and the right curling in significantly. His eyepatches were thin and diamond shaped. Another trait that made him distinguishable was the indentation on his lower jaw from an injury he received earlier in his life.

The art style is in between stylized and realistic using grainy brushes. Though the original illustration was a png, I added a background which is stylized artwork of the underwater viewing area at SeaWorld San Diego, which has clear blue water. Nakai was also shaded to fit with the background.

It's worth noting that because Rocket's expressions are limited, he always has a smile, so the eyebrows and eyelids are doing a lot of the work here in terms of conveying emotion. I do try to stylize the mouth slightly differently when he's angry though.

In terms of appearance, he has cartoony proportions, with a bean-like head shape, big eyes with camera's for pupils, long eyelashes, thick eyebrows and short hair. He also wears a baseball cap.

Nothing much, just wanted to yap again about how drastically different Buzzy looks in my AU, in terms of body type. Like, yeah, he’s still ultra short, but he’s noticeably more muscular, which not even the animatronic has that lol.

A 2D render of my version of Buzzy from the former Epcot attraction Cranium Command. It's sort of an in between of the animatronic, which had brown hair, blue eyes and more of a bottom-heavy look to his face, and the cartoon design, which was way more visually diminutive. Some aspects were added like some freckles on his cheeks and most notably, a more muscular build. The latter being from a time skip. The AU takes place 4 years after the events of the show, so I decided show that Buzzy has gained more physical strength and confidence. I've also changed the brown colors to be more reddish to contrast with the green colors of his hat, shirt, and pants.

The art style is mostly lineless with subtle gradients and a rim light.

A screenshot of Buzzy from the Preshow. His design was much closer to looking like a very stylized Radar O’Reily, except almost completely bald and dot eyes, lol.

Loki, one of my alien OCs for my story idea, Castaways. They are a koala-like alien with big bat-like ears, large golden yellow eyes and opposable thumbs on each of their hands and feet, though the former have two thumbs instead of just one. Their body is covered in fur-like fibers with a coloration similar to a white faced owl, with mostly grey and white on the body and bits of black surrounding the eyes and on the tips of the ears. Though their species typically walks on all fours, Loki prefers to be bipedal, as shown in this piece where they are walking towards the viewer with a bit of a mischievous look.

A poster my story idea “Soul in The Machine” featuring the main three robot characters, Vinyl, Rocket and RJ. All of them are humanoid, but look drastically different. Vinyl has long brown hair, a silver visor with a screen showing two red dots for eyes and a more human-like lower half of their face with peach silicone skin. They wear a black and blue pullover and light blue cuffed jeans.

Out of the three, Rocket is technically to most human looking, but he’s more cartoony looking, as he’s an animatronic. He has black hair, thick eyebrows, long eyelashes and beige latex skin. His outfit consists of an indigo and pink baseball cap, black jacket with purple collar rims, white shirt, indigo and pink gloves, and light blue cuffed jeans.

R.J. is the most robotic of the trio, only having a gold helmet with a black screen for a head and two green dots for eyes. He wears a red and black hoodie, white shirt and dark blue jeans.

The background is a tropical dry forest trail with some tall cacti on a sunny day with some rain clouds in the distance.

The art style for the characters is similar to a toon shaded 3D model and the background is more painterly.

Here’s an animatronic that honestly doesn’t look like a bot in this piece lol. It’s more obvious IRL by proportions and texture. Though Free Willy had an actual whale actor (Keiko), some scenes would use an animatronic for some scenes. #animatronic #orca #fanart

A stylized illustration of one of the Willy animatronics seen in the first Free Willy film. Though it may not seem like one in this piece, it’s actually quite obvious IRL, as the proportions, while trying to capture Keiko’s likeness, are a bit off. It’s kinda short and stocky looking with visually tiny pectoral flippers. The markings are also a little bit off, with the eyepatch being slightly too big and the flank patch being small. Though North Atlantic orcas like Keiko tend to have similar proportions, he was a sprouting male at the time and might’ve also been underweight, so he was long and skinny looking. Another thing it didn’t capture right was his sort of peanut shape if that makes sense. It wasn’t peanut head, but rather the fact that his head was pretty big and round, so it gave him a similar shape even when in ideal weight.

All things considered though, it is one of the better orca animatronics and there obviously was no way to be 100% accurate without using an actual whale’s body as a mold. There were things they got right like the freckles he had and the skin problems on the arm section his pectoral flippers.

As per usual, the style of this piece is made to look like a toon shaded model, though unlike previous animatronic art, it’s made to look like a shot taken in a pool.

More animatronic art! This time, I decided to draw one of my local bots: a 16M Studio C Chuck E from the Bayamón location in Puerto Rico. He’s my favorite out on the 3 local Chucks, since his fur is the perfect length and his shoes are mismatched, lol. #chuckecheese #CEC #animatronics #fanart

Unlike what most people think of when they hear of a CEC animatronic, this bot is pretty on model with what Chuck E.’s cartoon design looked like in 1998, although this one was probably made later on, as the specific look I chose is based on the on in the Bayamón location here in Puerto Rico. Speaking of which, most of the cosmetics look like the typical Rockstar Chuck outfit, except his shoes are mismatched, with his right one having more parallel laces and the left shoe having crisscrossed laces.

The style is similar to toon shaded 3d models and the lighting is similar to a glam shot with a purple background.

Since she’s interpreted as a typical teenage girl, she has “makeup” on her mask, consisting of purple eye shadow, dark pink or red cheeks and red lipstick. Usually she wears a white cheerleader sweater with a green skirt and white shoes, but I specifically chose to depict her in a more uncommon outfit, or at least an interpretation based on the few poorly lit photographs. As such, it’s probably not 100% accurate. The cosmetics in question consist of some red/pink bows on her pigtails, a black jacket with red/pink sleeves, a pink shirt, a black skirt with red/pink polka dots and POSSIBLY, some red boots, though that was hard to tell from the few pics, so for now, that’s how I interpreted it.

The style is similar to toon shaded 3d models and the lighting is similar to a glam shot with a purple background.

Tyke, a cat-like alien with a penguin-like body type who wears a black suit. He has an orange coloration, with most of his body being white except for the right ear, the top left side of his face and the feet. His eye color is light green with a bit of an olive color surrounding the pupils. As for his pose, he is walking towards the viewer with his flippers spread out and a happy expression, though his mouth is a bit more closed and he looks a bit awkward.

Apparently, it's Sea Serpent Day, so I took the opportunity to draw a real sea serpent. Before I fixated on cetaceans, there was only one type of marine animal I cared about: sea snakes. Recently I've grown to really like the yellow-bellied sea snake in particular. #snake #illustration #sciart

A stylized drawing of my Church Mouse Furby, Boo. I leaned more towards them being an actual creature, so they don’t look robotic in this apart from the black spot where the light and infrared sensors would be.

Church Mouse Furbies are sort of a brownish grey color with some subtle stripes, a white belly, white mane, light grey ears with a pink inner ear, cream face and orange feet. In the case of Boo, they have brown eyes, but this varies.

A lineup of the three main human characters from my story idea, "Soul in the Machine": Klaus, Ken and Albert.

Klaus is a tall German man with a muscular build, brown mid length straight hair with a receding hairline, a mustache, blue eyes and peach skin. He wears a black mock turtleneck, light blue tight jeans and small boots.

Out of the three, Ken is the shortest. He's a Japanese man with a thinner body type, mid length straight black hair with a few strands of white hair, a dark mole on his right cheek, dark brown eyes and beige skin. Ken wears a baseball cap, t-shirt, skinny jeans and boots, all of which are black.

The tallest of this trio is Albert, but only by like an inch or two compared to Klaus. He's an African-American man with a slim but top heavy body type, short flat top styled black hair, brown eyes and sepia skin. His clothing choice consists of a teal green and navy sweater, blue skinny jeans and navy blue boots.

I decided to dust off a sketch that had been sitting in my iPad for a while. This isn't my first time drawing a manatee, but it's certainly my first time illustrating an Antillean manatee. #manatee #illustration #wildlifeart #sciart

Getting the growing temptation to do proper snake illustrations. The only issue is that I would need brushes and unlike cetaceans, they come with so many different textures depending on the species and there's a ton of different scale shapes.
