Its easy to be cynical about “in medias res”, but then you play something that insists on beginning the game with the most boring, dry and slow tutorial and exposition and remember why it works 😂 You’re gonna lose most of those you lose in the first half hour, so do make it count.

An amazing VST processor a lot of people don't know about is Permut8. It's essentially an 8-bit computer in a VST plugin, can load up different "firmware" and make all kinds of evolving mayhem. It's also Eno approved 🤣 soniccharge.com/permut8

Having flu on NYE I updated my main game project to UE5.7. Every time I do this and it actually works, I’m astonished haha But yes, I’ve got it down to an art now, duplicate, recompile addons etc, new solution, update Perforce depots and so on Just an art that feels like I may self destruct 😂

The more Unreal plugins you lean on, the harder it becomes to update engine version. Expedition 33 was started in Unreal 4 and finished in 5, it's great to be able to use new features. But I find plugin updates are often slow or don't happen... my solution is below 👇 1/5

one of the issues of the egg crate as a diffuser is the regular spacing of the cones etc. It means mild diffusion around 3500Hz and mild absorption around 650Hz, but that's it. not really worth is for the mess it makes of the looks in your room

I did try using AI models for placeholders myself. Cos it’s just me I know I’m gonna replace them so no issues with them “slipping through.” The creative issue with it is that seeing them in there messes with your imagination and imprints on you in a way it’s hard to undo. So I stopped doing it.

After waiting as long as possible to install Windows 24H2, and it being forced on me, it obviously IMMEDIATELY set about destroying my work PC. Turns out there's a new service called Program Compatibility Control that loves to cause blue-screens and errors. If you disable it it all just works 🤦

Over time I've found that if you're developing a personal game project over quite a while, limiting third-party plugins is an excellent idea. I've already had to refactor out a couple of ones that are just not being updated. The more vanilla you can keep the engine the better, it seems!
