Who knew it would take drawing all that animal crossing stuff to get back to drawing people normally again. 🤔 Anyways part study, part snippet of the fanfic I’m writing. Gotta have some disagreements. #BloodyMary #IronMary

I had so much fun making these. Grace's passport photo was taken on the VAT after they found out it was expired. Simon's was taken a few weeks after washing ashore. And I couldn't leave out the GCMS ID. I tried to sneak in some Easter eggs too. ;) #BloodyMary #IronMary

A animal crossing passport photo of Ryland Grace. The background of the passport is very similar to the animal crossing new horizon's ID with a few changes such as the addition of the Petrova Comet. The photo of Grace is a very nervous and anxious, being held in place by two security guards as they took the photo. His glasses are askew as he smiles towards the camera. The following text is on the ID.

Line One: Passport
Line two: Passport ID: 2026-2003-1987-13477.75
Line three: Petrova, Oranges
Line four: Species: Fox (Vulpes Stella)
Line five: Ryland Grace
Line six: Born November 11th
Line seven: Reg. May 4th 2021

A animal crossing passport photo of Simon from Iron Lung. The background of the passport is very similar to the animal crossing new horizon's ID with a few changes such as the addition of the Petrova Comet. The photo of Simon, looking indifferently towards the camera. His ear colors are green to show it's the summer time. The background shows the photo was taken at Grace's home with a window and framed children's drawings in the background.

Line One: Passport
Line two: Passport ID: 2012-0603-1989-01326.31
Line three: Petrova, Oranges
Line four: Species: Capra Hircus Aries
Line five: Simon
Line six: Born May 5th
Line seven: Reg. August 12th 2021

A white and blue school ID of Ryland Grace. He looks well kept and clean for the photo, boosting a proud smile towards the camera. He is wearing a brown suit with a earth pin on the suit collar. The text on the photo reads:

Line one: G.C.M.S.
Descending numbers: 893342183
Line two: Grover Cleveland Middle School
Line three: Grace, Ryland
Line four: 8th Grade Science Teacher

I plan on having Grace pre-record his lesson before the start of the new semester and gives me an excuse to show his sleep deprived state caught on camera. Also Grace has no poker face to yearning. Trust when I say Simon yearns TWICE as hard but hides it better. #BloodyMary #IronMary

Sketch of Animal Crossing Grace recording his first video for the new school year. He is well kept wearing a suit. Behind him is a white board covered in doodles and science posters. The following is said.

Grace: “Hi class! I’m working remotely this year but that won’t stop me from teaching you!”

A second sketch of Grace recording his lessons. He is wearing a more causal outfit, his iconic ‘Ah! The element of surprise’ shirt. He is pointing at the camera, wide eyed and sleep deprived. A rough diagram of the Krebs Cycle is drawn with missing information. On the far right there is partially erased comments from Rocky and Simon telling him to go to bed. The following is said.

Grace: “Okay class, tell your TA what the step 6 is on the Krebs Cycle.”
Grace: “TA, resume the video when they answer right.”

Third sketch of Grace recording his lessons but this time Simon is a guest. The video lesson is titled “Plants have feelings too. Feat. Simon.” Simon is focused on showing of the plant for the days lesson. Grace is focused solely on him, initially to show the class where the focus should be on but his yearning at the better of him. Simon is handling the lesson well enough that Grace can’t find it in himself to interject nor is he focusing on the lesson to remember too. The following is said.

Simon: “The mimosa pudica reacts to touch. This is called seismonasty. This is likely a defensive reaction for…”

I should probably put out a PSA that I did make a Tumblr account for the animal crossing x BloodyMary! It’s 100% me! I just wanted a second place to condense it all and I’m most familiar with tumblr than other sites. 😎👍

I did make sure to go back and draw people again. Plus I wanted to practice more Simon and Grace. And Grace, I’m sorry, but you ended up as half doodles.😅 #BloodyMary #IronMary

Still on the animal crossing craze. I just adore these two being soft with each other. As well as getting after each other for not taking care of themselves. 🦊❤️🌳 #BloodyMary #IronMary

A doodle of animal crossing Grace and Simon gardening. Simon is guiding Grace on how to plant a seed. Grace is nervous due to his history of failing to keep plants alive. The following conversation is said.

Simon: “Pack the dirt but not too compact.”
Grace, nervously: “Okay.”
Simon: “It’s not glass. You can be firmer.”
Grace: “Okay.”

Part two of the previous sketch. This time Simon is comforting/rewarding Grace with a nuzzle. Grace is extremely flustered with his tail wagging ecstatically. Simon has also placed his hand over Rylands. The following conversation is said.

Simon, affectionately: “Relax.”
Simon, warmly: “You’re doing great, Ry.”

A doodle of Simon getting after Grace for staying up too late. Grace has crossed his arms and is pouting, not making eye contact with Simon. Simon has pressed his face against Grace’s face with furrowed brows and the look of anergy disappointment. The following conversation is said:

Simon:”Go. To. Bed. Grace.”

A doodle of Grace taking care of Simon’s wounds. Simon is roughen up due to his inability to get used to the peaceful life on the island and gets himself injured trying to find what’s wrong with the island. Most of his injuries come from falling out of trees, cliffs, and pitfall seeds. Grace had finished bandaging up Simon’s hand and is holding it tenderly as Simon looks away with an ice pack on his bruised cheek. The following conversation is said:

Grace: “Simon… What have you gotten yourself into?…”

Drops a collection of #BloodyMary sketches and walks away. #IronMary

A sketch of Human Simon interacting with Animal Crossing Simon. They are discussing the different plants they grew. Human Simon is cultivated a Ginkgo tree and Animal crossing Simon is growing a Lily if the valley. Both are curious and happy talking about plants. The following conversation happens.

Human Simon: Well I’ll be damned. You have Our Lady’s Tears.
Animal Crossing Simon: We call them Lily of the Valley.
Human Simon softy saying: Beautiful name.

A sketch of human Grace and Animal crossing Grace. Human Grace is completely baffled and curious if the “item” leaf animal crossing Grace is holding. The following conversation happens:

Human Grace: And you say that leaf is actually a Parabolic Antenna.
Animal Crossing Grace: *nods*
Human Grace: Dang.

A sketch of Animal crossing Grace and Simon sitting on a ledge. Grace is wrapped up in the “humanity” quilt while sleeping his head on Simon’s shoulder. Simon is holding Graces glasses as he pull the quilt back over Graces shoulders. Simon is blushing despite the neutral face he holds and Graces tail is wrapped around Simon.

A sketch of Animal Crossing Grace and Simon. Grace is startled as Simon falls asleep on his lap. Grace is heavily blushing and in shock, he is not sure what to do with his hands. Simon is blissfully unaware and content.

This is all still concepts and subject to change but I’m really excited to work on it between my other project! I’ll still post snippets as I narrow down my vision before making proper chapters. Y’all have no idea how happy I am to be motivated in something again. This fandom is just awesome. 🥺❤️

Cause word limits suck! Here some factoids: 1) Eva Stratt is a Kooikerhondje! 2) I used glitter fountain pen ink for the “astrophage”! My camera can’t capture how pretty it is in sunlight! 3) I made swatches of the chunky glitter but ended up hand gluing it sparingly. I’m still covered in glitter…

130

Darcy F. @artificeblade.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

A concept piece for my Animal Crossing x #BloodyMary fic. The current premise is strange outbreak of red algae threatens to spread around the world. Eva recruits Ryland to help research and see if there is any way they can stop it before it’s too late. Surely nothing else is involved, right? 🦊🌳

A sketch of animal crossing Ryland Grace and Eva Stratt. The weather is overcast with a strong enough breeze to signify a coming storm. They are both on the ocean pier, Grace is kneeling down at the edge, looking down at a red streak in the ocean water. The red water sparkles in the overcast light. Stratt is observing Grace has he looks down, she is holding a cup of Brewster’s to-go coffee.

A close up of the red waters colored with fountain pen ink. The sparkling effect is better captured and the individual large glitter pieces shine in the light.

YAY! :D Thank you! 🦊❤️🐐 I can't tell you how long I thought on Simon's design. I know Wolf, Deer, and Rabbit are popular designs for him but Goat just felt so right for me. Especially in the animal crossing style. His goatee and horns mean so much to me. 🥺

Thank you so much! 🥺This means so much to me, seriously I really appreciate it! AC style has been so fun getting back to! Seriously, it's been helping me so much with my shapes and everything else you pointed out! ;A; I can't wait to show y'all what I have planned! 🤗

Darcy F. @artificeblade.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

Y’all have no idea how proud I am of myself. I drew a background y’all. I drew a BACKGROUND! Also, Grace is totally the fisherman in the relationship and Simon has no luck at all. Simon’s skill tree is in gardening and uses that crossbreed for blue roses. 😏🌹 #BloodyMary #IronMary

A sketch of animal crossing versions of Grace and Simon. Grace is proudly showing off his catch of a King Salmon. Simon is sitting on the edge of the river with his tiny guppy he caught (the first actual fish he caught all day. The rest is caught junk he’ll recycle later.)

The background is near the rivers mouth, a palm tree in the distance to show the location of the beach while the rest of the background is temperate trees and evergreens. It is implied to be September which allows Grace to fish for King Salmon. If this was colored Simon’s ears and tail would be tinted yellow and orange.

You know the meme where you draw characters experiencing the same stuff you do? Yeah, Dr. Ryland Grace I know you share my pain finding another broken pH probe in the lab when you need it the most. #PHM #RylandGrace #ProjectHailMary

Chibi sketch of Ryland Grace. He is wearing lab PPE holding a pH probe in his hand. The tip is clearly broken off and pure frustration is on his face.

Simon and Grace are taking a break from gardening. Both are exhausted. Simon is standing up, brushing a hand through his hair. Grace is sitting down while cleaning his glasses with his shirt.

The following conversation happens:
Grace: “Simon, remind me why we need summer in the dome?”
Simon: “Plants need seasons.”
Grace: “Right… How about we figure out how to crossbreed evergreen plants.”
Grace, mumbling: “It’s too hot to be gardening.”

I did it! Here is Animal Crossing Ryland Grace and Simon fully colored! I have a whole story arc for them both and I'll work on their story when I take breaks from my main #BloodyMary story. Also enjoy some additional comfy sketches and silly one panel comic. #IronMary

A digitally colored picture of Ryland Grace and Simon. Ryland is a orange fox with red accents. The accents are hinted to be shaped like Stars. He is wearing his movie cardigan, a atomic symbol blue shirt, and space suit pants. Simon is a light brown sheep/goat hybrid with dark brown hair. His horns is a brown color and his ears and tail are green with a leaf pattern. He is wearing his first outfit from Iron Lung before he takes off layers. Beside each character is the color palette used. Graces is stars and Simon's are leafs. The background is a island motif with two palm trees, one set of waves are blue but the secondary wave is red. In the middle of the palm trees is a Red Comet with streaks of red tailing behind it.

Two sketches of Grace and Simon cuddling. The one on the left is Grace being the big spoon as he holds Simon close to his chest. His tail is wrapping over them both. The second doodle is Simon holding Grace's head close to his chest, soothing the back of Grace's head. Grace being bigger is still wrapping as much as he can around Simon, his tail curling around and pressed against Simon's back. Grace is wearing a t-shirt and boxers. Simon choose to wear only boxers.

A silly one panel comic of Grace in the middle of working on an experiment only to hold onto a bag of candy in his teeth for dear life. Simon had intervened and the bag of candy had torn in two as he tried to pry it away from Grace. Both Grace and Simon are mad and fustrated.

The dialog reads as follows:
Simon: "Ryland Grace, I'm cutting you off! You've been up for TWO days straight!"

Nothing kills my motivation more than overthinking. The goal of my fanfic is to subvert the usual tropes of the fandom while staying true to what I believe the characters to do. I adore world building and I really hope to accomplish that. The set up is so easy, it’s the in between that’s hard.

And the trio is complete! Ryland was the hardest one of the bunch to draw but I’m content with what I managed. Simon is definitely my fave. But Ellie was a pleasant surprise for drawing her for the first time. #ProjectHailMary #IronLung #PHM

A long shot of a series of three sticky notes. The colors from top to bottom is blue, orange, and pink. The first on top is Ryland Grace from project Hail Mary. He is in his EVA suit, being held up by a cord. He is struggling to hold up Simon. Simo. Is being held by his cowl, very unhappy. At the bottom is Ellie, wearing an eating bib with “Blood Ocean Dive’ written on it, looking at Simon hungrily. She is holding fork and knives in her hands.

A chibi sketch of Ryland Grace on a blue post-it note. He is wearing his EVA suit. Glasses nearly falling off his face as he is struggling to hold on. He is being held by a cord while holding onto a cord that connects him to Simon.

A orange sticky note with Simon from Iron lung. Very unhappy lad.

A pink sticky note with Ellie from Iron lung. She is looking up at Simon with the look of hunger. She is wearing a bib with ‘Blood Ocean Dive’. She is holding three forks and three knives in her multiple hands.

A picture of an orange post-it note with a chibi drawing of Simon from Iron Lung. Simon is being held by his cowl by and invisible force. He is very grumpy and frowning as he tries to run away with his legs (and failing to do so.)

I’m a sucker for symbolism and man, you can fit so many into Simon’s character. I was so torn that I ended up just smashing three of them together: A lamb, treated like a scapegoat, forced to wear a wolf’s pelt. Also this is my favorite sketch of Simon I’ve made so far. #IronLung

Rough sketch of Simon from Iron Lung. He is cradling an adolescent lamb, whose horns are mutated and growing into two pairs on its head. It had an ear tag torn off and replaced with a COI ear tag instead (representing the forceful removal of Simon’s Eden tattoo). A wolf’s upper head is digging its teeth into the Lambs back. Simon is looking at the lamb with sadness, empathy, and strong resolve to protect it. The text on the page reads as follows.
‘A sheep treated like a (scape)goat but forced to be a wolf.’

Rough sketch of Ryland and Simon. Consistent style, I don’t know them. 🙂‍↔️ #BloodyMary #IronMary

Rough sketch of Ryland Grace and Simon. Ryland and Simon are sitting, working side by side but Simon reaches over to close the laptop Ryland is working on. Ryland is extremely tired, squinted eye with bags under them. Simon is resting his head on Ryland shoulders as he reprimands Ryland for staying up too late. The following dialogue is spoken.

Simon: “Get your ass to bed, Ry.”
Ryland: “Hold on, Si. I think I’m onto something.”
Simon: “You said that an hour ago. Either you walk yourself to bed or I’m carrying you.”

Additional sketches from my worry stone gift for Simon. I really love how I rendered the first sketch, ah the small kiss on the worry stone. 🤭 #bloodymary #ironmary

A semi-realistic rendering of Simon from Iron Lung. The top part of his hair is pulled back into an upright ponytail while the bottom half is allowed to fall down in soft waves. He is looking at the worry stone in his hand with great fondness and yearning. The small kiss he gives it is hidden behind the stone as he blushes.

A semi-realistic drawing of Simon. He is wearing the worry stone as a pendant in this drawing. He is using his right hand to rub the stone on his chest. He is anxious but the grounding motions is relaxing his features.

Another #bloodymary comic! This time I thought about Simon’s grounding technique of rubbing his thumb on the knife holster so what if Grace and Rocky pick up on that and give him a worry stone! The color scheme of the stone is blue and green, looking like a tree and sky! #ironmary
